In my fic, Jean abruptly starts subconsciously matching Eren’s freak, so to say, and doesn’t even notice the change lmao. One day he’s like “ugh Eren is such a fucking nightmare! he keeps biting me! he’s lucky he’s at least somewhat endearing 🙄” and the next he’s like “I’m going to go bite my packmate, Eren, because I really need to let off some steam. this is very normal of me”

A god that dictates seemingly arbitrary and oddly specific rules to its followers, not because it demands absolute blind obedience, but because it's fascinated by human creativity and wants to see what kind of rules-lawyering the followers come up with in order to circumvent the rules, or how to interpret them in a way in which they can still abide by the rules when the letter of the law would be impossible or highly inconvenient to obey.
Like the command says "You Must Not Wet Your Hands With This Specific Substance", and there's one faction that has decided that since it's practically impossible to not ever touch the thing, your hands won't be touching it if you're wearing gloves. Another sect has decided that it doesn't count if you only handle the substance when it's frozen solid, so your hands don't get wet from touching it. A third one has figured out how to obtain or produce some substance that is essentially identical in every way, but has a slightly different chemical structure, so it's not the same substance.
And then there's the ones who figured out how to handle the entire process by only using their feet.

Eren Jaeger- Mexican free-tailed bat
Often associated with open skies and freedom, they are also one of the fastest mammals on Earth and have a relentless nature that matches Eren's goal-driven personality.
Mikasa Ackerman- Greater spear-nosed bat
Known for strong social bonds, similiar to how one of Mikasa's strongest defining traits is her loyalty and protectiveness over the people she cares about. They are also very precise and adaptable hunters.
Armin Arlert- Fringe-lipped bat
Known for intelligence and strategy rather than strength and brute force. They are also very responsive to their environment, mirroring Armin's emotional awareness.
Levi Ackerman- New Zealand lesser short-tailed bat
Not just a short joke I promise😭 These bats are extremely adaptable and are evolutionarily unique compared to other bat species. They are one of the only bat species adapted for ground foraging and therefore can survive conditions where most other bats can't, like how Levi survived to the end of the story and all his comrades didn't.
Hange Zoë- Greater bulldog fishing bat
They are very unconventional hunters, they trawl the water's surface with their hind feet, catching fish with their long legs rather than their mouths or tail membranes like other bat species. I feel this matches Hange's experimental nature.
Annie Leonhart: Yellow-winged bat
Known to be more isolated than other bat species, they don't roost in huge colonies but rather monogamous pairs, and even then they separate to individual roosts during the day. This more isolated nature matches Annie's independence.
Jean Kirstein: Greater horseshoe bat
This was originally just a horse joke but I did put a little more thought into it afterwards. Horseshoe bats are very social and adapt to a changing environment very quickly, kind of like how Jean adapted from self-preservation at the start of s1 into a capable leader.
Sasha Braus: Lesser long-nosed bat
They are nectarivores so they spend a lot of their lives searching for food sources. Because of this diet, they are also important pollinators and I feel this matches Sasha's warm energy in a group setting.
Ymir Fritz: Common vampire bat
Deeply misunderstood. The stereotypes and myths surrounding vampire bats, and just bats in general, annoys me so much. Vampire bats form strong social bonds with each other and even share food via regurgitation when one is on the brink of starvation. That might sound gross actually but I think it's really cute, I love vampire bats. Anyway, they match Ymir's misunderstood energy but also her loyalty and strong bond with Historia.
Historia Reiss: Rodrigues flying fox
Very social, relatively peaceful within colonies. They are also play an important ecological role (seed dispersal), a bit like how Historia plays a significant leadership role as Queen.
Pieck Finger: Proboscis bat
Built for endurance like the Cart Titan, they spend the day clinging flat against vertical trees rather than hanging upside down.
I know I'm missing a bunch of characters but I was too tired to finish this list and I have exams to revise for😭

Prancer and Snowflake are the horses that Marco and Annie had in the Cadet Corps. They remained in the Cadet Corps since neither of their riders went into the Survey Corps, where having a horse is mandatory. The other horses who belong to 104th Cadets who joined the Scouts followed their riders from the Cadet Corps to the Survey Corps because they’d formed a strong bond by then, increasing the likelihood of survival on an expedition.
And yes I threw in a reference to the irl horse Clever Hans because it’s a neat story :)

FAQ and Rules
What sort of content can I create for this event?
You can create whatever you want (fic, art, edits, etc). Any fandom is allowed, as well as OC stuff. NSFW is allowed, but please tag your content accordingly! The only thing not allowed is AI-generated content. You're also free to combine these prompts with the prompts of any other event.
Do I need to make 31 things to participate?
Oh heavens no! You can make as much or as little content as you like, skip days when desired, or combine prompts (so for example, write something that covers a prompt from day 1, 2, AND 3). You don't have to do the days in order either, go wild! To be considered a 'completionist', you only have to make sure that at the end of the month, you've covered 31 prompts from 31 different days, but whether you do that in 31 works or just 1 is up to you. Your works can be separate oneshots or one continuous fic, or something in-between.
How do I interpret these prompts?
Creativity is the name of the game here! If you don't understand a prompt, feel free to send us an ask about it. However, the important thing is you can interpret the prompts however you want. For example, 'heat' could be literal (fever, heatstroke, burn wounds) or figurative (somebody getting heat for something). The dialogue prompts are allowed to be slightly rewritten to fit better for the character whose mouth it's coming out of, be that the whumpee, whumpter, or caretaker. As long as you're having fun!
What are these alts about?
If none of the three prompts of a particular day are your cup of tea, you can swap them out for an alt prompt of your choice. This will count as having covered that day for completionists.
How do I tag my works and is there an AO3 collection?
It suffices to tag your work with #ailesswhumptober for us to see and reblog it! Please also tag nsfw content, since we'll be using that tag on this blog too. Tagging the day is optional but does help the mods along.

What's this I hear about badges/achievements?
For those who want an extra challenge, we come up with a set of achievements each year in addition to the 'completionist' one for you to strive for.
