he likes having his autonomy violated and his boundaries overruled it's literally good for him. he likes being given a meaningful task within pre-defined constraints that he absolutely must do Or Else. and he likes being packed up and kept in a box. send post.
Apologies if this post is a bit dry and long, I got a lot more fun stuff planned for this .... backpacking au??? I made. So please, bear with me for a bit.
I imagine everyone stayed with Toriel for a long time due to Clementine's twisted ankle. An injury that nasty is going to take time to heal properly, and it's not like everyone else could just abandon her, right? Besides, as much as Clementine needs rest, everyone else needs it too. Lying down for a bit and contemplating about the day they just had and the next steps forward sounds like a good idea.
Things seemed pretty peaceful for a while. Everyone got along with Toriel for the most part, eating her food, helping around the house, making her lonely little home a bit livelier.
Toriel was delighted. She doesn't need to wake up to a silent home anymore. This house finally felt alive again after so long. The ghosts of her failures, as both a mother and caretaker, can once more be put to bed by the new life in the house.
....But it's not like this could ever last, right?
Questions start bubbling to the surface. Horrible, terrifying questions.
"When can we leave?"
"Toriel, how do we leave the ruins?"
"When.....when can we go home?"
Toriel avoids answering these questions. She also tries to artificially prolong the natural stay of these kids as much as she can.Ā
Toriel watched 7 other children walk themselves to an early grave. She's not going to let 8 more potentially meet the same fate.
......Everything would be so much easier if these children did not have so much to miss back on the surface. There would be no siren song otherwise that would lure these children, forcing them through hell before they inevitably met their end.
.....But Toriel's guests are starting to get antsy now. Especially when Clementine has fully recovered. Some try their best to do.... something, anything to leave, without Toriel knowing. These attempts are admirable, but..... the result is what you'd expect.
After Seth shakes off their shock, the two of them get to work on the map......Though realistically, they probably don't find anything for the map. Indigo suggests shelving the map thing for now and looking at other books in the house. There's actually a lot of useful books in the house if you look hard enough.
There were a lot of dog-eared paperbacks on the plants growing in the underground. There were basic textbooks on the physiology of all the monsters you could find in the underground. There were ancient books on the history and culture of the vast underground. There were.... There were a lot of books to cover with just the two of them. But that doesn't matter. They're going to read all these books with as much enthusiasm as they can.
The upcoming journey is going to be dangerous. That's basically a fact. It sounds almost impossible that a bunch of scraggly kids are gonna make it out of here alive.
If they want to get that one-in-a-million chance of everyone making it out safe and sound, then by god do they need to know what they're getting themselves into.
Thankfully, the two of them don't have to read all of this material by themselves for long.
The more everyone else agrees that they need to leave, the more people come and discover Indigo and Seth suffering studying. More and more will eventually join in and pick up their slack, making everyone's workload all the more bearable. All this studying will continue until the day everyone eventually leaves.

This is the reveal of this ridiculousness during their game
The pathologization of anger needs to be talked about. What do you mean my therapist is telling me that thereās something āchemically wrongā with me because I am still angry about my mom DYING OF COVID.
of course Iām still angry? My mom and 1.3 million other Americans are dead and you want me to shoot sunshine out of my ass about it?
āBut Itās been 3 years since she died, you have complex griefā yeah and she was on a ventilator for 11 days and she kept writing āI am scaredā and āI donāt want to dieā on a notepad over and over again. While you were still going out unmasked and unvaccinated and coughing all over each other, I was living a nightmare I couldnāt fucking wake up from. And every single day Iām reminded of it in the form of āhaha wasnāt the pandemic such a wacky time hahaā and āIām not getting a booster you canāt make me 𤪠(nobody asked)ā and āitās not real they made the numbers up!!!ā
āYouāre not copingā Ok hereās the deal; Iāll stop feeling this anger when we have a national memorial (we donāt) or a cdc equipped to stop it from happening again (we donāt) or a population that takes a deadly disease seriously BEFORE it effects them personally (WE DONāT!)
until then, Iām pretty sure my anger is A COMPLETELY NORMAL HUMAN REACTION given the facts at hand
Am walking through Manhattan, there's a woman who can't be more than 25 in a big fur coat, walking with a cane, angrily saying into her headpiece "I want them them destroyed," I feel like an extra in a movie
For a while ive had this idea where TV World was much more populared during its glory days . A lot more TV themed characters to fill the cast out more appropriately!
Ive yet to think of names for a lot of these guys so if anyone has any suggestions let me know
