{ OF MEMORY ¡}:
âI suppose you could say that. It wasnât really my choice though.â
The laughter tasted bitter on her tongue. Was it out of nervousness? Fear? Every event leading to her merging with Kairi should have ended with the expected outcome. This place, and her own rebirth, were new variables that would lead to many restless nights to come. Â
But that was a concern for another time. She wanted to capture this innocent moment, her eyes darting between details as if to absorb the scenery before it fades. And for once, she could spend it with someone. Tearing away from the glittering sunlight cast over the water, her serene gaze rested upon his face.
âYou look different.â
There was no particular connotation attached to the phrase but stated as mere fact. It was obviously true, after all. He seemedâŚolder. Excluding the change in attire and hairstyle, a gleam of maturity and hope now inhabited his eyes. She almost doubted this was the same boy from her memory.Â
Minutes of awkward silence passed before she was released from the observant trance. She hadnât realized she hadnât spoken another word.
âItâs a good look for you,â she chuckled, âI can see your face clearly now.â
A witticism - or rather several - precipitately forms upon the tip of his tongue. Although all are innocuous, none are granted swift departure from his brazen lips. Regardless of whether they seem anodyne or not, he's inclined to tread lightly rather than heedlessly risk affronting her. Where his own inimitable brand of jocularity would have been revealed without hesitation in the presence of someone whom she irrefutably resembles, he deliberately shows some restraint. He's not entirely sure why he does so, and he doesn't pause to ruminate on it. Instead, he permits a blithe smirk to form upon his countenance as he offers a nonchalant shrug.Â
â As long as it doesn't look ridiculous. Can't have people laughing. â
For an appreciable yet fleeting moment, he noiselessly regards their vibrant surroundings. Articulating compassion under circumstances that are less than auspicious isn't something that can always be done with enviable ease. Yet, having doughtily overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, he's not easily daunted by challenges and he's determined to remain that way. He can only hope that he's not being callous in inquiring about a matter that she has little influence over. Just because one bears benign intentions, doesn't mean that they won't be misconstrued.Â
â It's hard to think anything positive about a place you're trapped in, but you don't have to go it alone. If you need anything, you've got friends you can turn to. For starters, Sora and Kairi. â
