Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy
🎠 ND QUIRKS EPISODE 3: Okay but that Easter egg phone call from past Nancy saying to future Nancy “Say hi to Charlie for me!” IS PROOF THAT CHARLIE AND NED ARE REALLY THE SAME PERSON… I’m just saying 😂😂🤯
Shoutouts:
@djtwingamers for their playthrough footage of the tissue paper!
@hafanforever for their play through footage of the Easter egg scene!
@goobaandjetpack for their toilet paper hack (we had this in the quirks document, but I learned it from them first 😊)
@ndwalkthroughs for the ghost dogs mention on his site that was *not* a part of our quirks document!
No one knows how to haunt a narrative like Charlotte Thornton
can i ask what part of the BIM worship you found insensitive bc it always rubbed me the wrong way too!! i genuinely wanna know if we're of the same mind about it or if we noticed different stuff
disclaimer: i am not indigenous hawaiian so i cant speak to that lived experience
second disclaimer: i dont think every BIM joke falls into these or other racist categories or that all of the BIMsphere is inherently problematic, but there are absolutely pockets of this that seem to go largely unquestioned. so here i am. questioning them
basically while it seems like we can all agree that kapu cave isnt good representation of hawaiian culture (nor did it probably ever intend to be), i think theres a point where poking fun of the caricature of BIM starts to perpetuate further racism. one thing in particular ive noticed is when people jokingly feign attraction to him or call him a DILF, when my reaction to that is like okay. what about him makes it funny for you to pretend to be attracted to him. like lets name this. there's also some "i want to run away and be his big island princess" type humor which accidentally or otherwise plays into settler colonialism mindsets.
i think there's a degree of the "is it bad to poke fun at bad representation" conversation to be had here but this isn't a specific area of that i can speak on. re: not being hawaiian.
its not like i cant take a joke or recognize sarcasm or when something is intended in good humor. but i feel like the heehee hahas are sometimes at the expense of real indigenous hawaiians and we could all stand to step back & contextualize our own thoughts and memes sometimes
I don't understand the Nancy Drew game fandom, or I understand it too well. It's half queer neurodivergent progressive people (my people), half conservative Christian former homeschooler. If you talk about anything related to racial issues all the horrible Reddit centrists will come out of the woodwork and shout you down. Nancy Drew was created as a Mary Sue WASP cracker ass cracker and I suppose there's no reason to believe that her target audience has changed in any way.
im really really normal about this interaction. i do hate you but i dont hate you......deirdre shannon i know what you are
Sorry but HAU is so so so funny. The groom is camping in a cot in a decrepit dead child’s room from WWII, the best man is camping in a room that’s missing half the walls, and the party favors and glassware are just sitting on a table under the gaping hole in the building...
wedding night, you know what that means!! first night together in the tiny dusty pink bed next to the EVIL RETURNS TO THE EVIL DOER chalkboard 😏
sorry @glassxrose but “that’s right. the bog” can’t stay in the tags
and what if i said you people hate kyler malloy for the same reasons you love henry bolet. what then
I would watch Heated Rivalry if:
Instead of men, they were women
Instead of rival hockey players, they were rival fashion designers
The one that doesn’t know they’re gay is in love with the other one’s comphet ex
Instead of being based off of a romance novel, it was based on a Nancy Drew PC game
It was Minette x Heather toxic yuri
I LOVE the recurring theme of the power of the mind in the Nancy Drew games.
“A ghost doesn’t have to be real to haunt you.”
“If the human heart wants something to be true, does the mind have the power to make it true?”
“Young lady, I believe the human mind is capable of far more than we can ever imagine…”
Like yessss the games have a focus on science and rationality and logical explanations BUT 👆 we must not discount the magic that exists in the world if we believe in it.
Henry have I got the website for you
