Narrowing her eyes, she glared up at him defiantly, crossing her arms over her chest and shooting him an almost feral smile. “Oh trust me—if I intended to scare you, I’d be doing a hell of a lot more than just standing here. But to answer your question… yeah, usually it makes people turn tail and run. I’m known for being a little… impulsive and out of control. I tend to punch first and ask questions later.”
Heaving an impatient sigh, Rose watched him rooting around in his wallet, wondering why he didn’t just answer her question. She was about to make a snarky remark about not really needing a visual aide, but when her eyes dropped down to the photo he’d handed her, she froze, shocked into speechlessness. The image transfixed her; she’d never seen any pictures of herself as a small child, in fact she’d have been willing to bet there were none in existence. Janine Hathaway wasn’t the sentimental type, to say the least. With difficulty, she tore her eyes away from the happy, smiling child she’d once been as his statement hit home, gazing up at him, her confusion evident on her face.
“Ma? Wha… Janine? You’re my brother?”
Warren watched the girl closely, how much had Janine really kept from her? If what he and his father had been hearing was correct - the closest thing that Rose had ever had to a family life was when she got to spend time with the Dragomir's. This was a fact that made Warren a little bitter, because ever since he was a small lad he had thought of Rose as family, a baby sister that he could protect and care for like Roderick had done for him. Just with how Janine had forbade Abe from seeing Rose and him himself being in school or away with his father until recently he hadn't been able to do that.
Until Now.
When she finally spoke up he rubbed the back of his neck." Well matters yer definition of it Rosie. By blood? Nah, Da found me livin on the streets when I was bout eight years old - didn' adopt me till later. Otherwise, 've though' of ya as me lil sister fer mos' of me life." He said as he buried both of his hands in his pockets, his eyes suddenly finding the dirt beneath his feet very interesting. He had no idea why he was being just so - open with her. Maybe it was because deep down, as much as he loved his Da... He wanted some of his family back. Maybe it was that hearing how alone Rose had grown up broke his heart....
" So I guess ya - I am yer brother iffin ya wan' one. Tha's the reason I transferred here, ta get ta know ya Rosie."
