watched the french dub of lines in the sand tonight and had some fascinating takeaways:
-cuddy uses the formal vous to address both wilson and house. which is already fascinating on its own (i expected her to ‘vous’ wilson and the fellows, but not house), but also…house vouvoyers her back? so much of his disrespectful snark towards her is the same but he’s using the formal vous the whole time which is a crazy tonal clash lmao.
-also, house and wilson ARE on ‘tu’ terms, which means the dub isn’t just blanket vous-ing everyone because they’re colleagues. i’m obviously not surprised that they’re using the informal with one another but it makes me even more interested in a) why they decided house and cuddy are still on vous terms (maybe they started dubbing with ‘vous’ back in s1 and then decided to stick with it even as house and cuddy obviously got closer? but that raises some fascinating questions about vous vs tu in s7 lol), and b) finding out what terms the fellows are on (because they don’t address each other directly at all this episode—even chase and cameron’s convo while searching the house doesn’t contain any direct ‘you’ing).
-see above: can’t wait to watch s3 fwb era in this dub and see if cameron and chase start ‘tu’ing each other at work
-can confirm all the names are still the same so ‘house’ is not translated to ‘maison’ unfortunately. although they do pronounce cuddy’s name in the most ostentatiously french way ever lol (especially in comparison to wilson/house)
-chase still has an accent!!! i actually can’t parse what it is because my listening skills kind of suck (i think it might be marseillaise but don’t quote me on that) but his intonation is def not the same as cam/foreman/house which is fun
anyway those are the main things i noticed. disclaimer i am only like B1 french and also i only watched this one episode so these things may change across seasons but i think the vous/tu stuff is soooo cool because it’s obviously not a differentiation we have in english!
the closest i've ever come to shipping hilson, btw, was in half wit, when wilson finds out house is "dying" of cancer and immediately turns around and starts explaining him and his treatment to cuddy and house himself, and starts gatekeeping the knowledge from everyone else. why should cameron know house is dying??? she shouldn't!
or how in poison wilson concocts this whole scheme to get house off drugs, makes cuddy act like the antagonist and instigator, and spends the whole episode being sympathetic to house and his buddy. his pal. his ally.
or how wilson will pay and arrange for people to spend time with house. or how when house has a poker group, hangs out with people who aren't wilson, wilson needs to be part of it.
the way that wilson is possessive of house and house's feelings. how he has to be the explainer, the psych-oanalyzer, the Only One who gets house, who tells cameron off for dating him in an episode where everyone else is encouraging, who doses house with anti-depressants, who makes house assaulting chase about himself. and house, who loves this shit, who loves being the focus of obsession and possessiveness, but who hardly ever is aware of just how much wilson gatekeeps house's life and relationships. this isn't to say house is a battered victim, longing for escape. he's always gotten off on obsession. but just. the way that wilson always positions himself so that everyone who wants access to house has to get his permission first.
the way that house, left to his own devices, makes friends easily. he's outgoing in his way. he has a poker group and bowling partners and chats up private eyes and patients and his team and replacement doctors. the way that wilson, as far as we know, has absolutely no friends.

theyre married but the kids don’t know cuz they think its funny.

star lacrosse player rich boy robert chase (in this au he lives with his dad) joins clubmed from fatherly pressure. hates it. makes friends. hates it less. accidentally ends up wanting to be a doctor. allison cameron and eric foreman both want to be doctors and joined clubmed. cameron later transfers schools because her and chase’s breakup was SOOO BAD… awkward to this day… foreman has no friends and eats lunch with house everyday. house lets him do whatever with lab equipment.
thirteen and kutner are also in this!!!
so house used to be a doctor but his malpractice lost him his license and also the connections to get jobs in research or college level teaching. hes kinda lost after that. vicodin abuse happens!!!!! and then he goes to rehab hooray!!!
after rehab something something wilson (who he knew before idk hes not a doctor though) is like. this stem teachers gonna retire in a year or two!!! and house (he wants to spend more time with wilson) speedruns a teaching certification and gets hired!!!!!!!!!

wilson has a lot of old movie posters in his classroom (house keeps all HIS posters at home)
house and wilson harass admin to get the same lunch and prep periods (when they do not have the same prep periods house will drop into wilson’s classroom unannounced while wilson’s teaching)
yes they do gossip about the students
along with foreman, the rest of the ducklings AND wilson eat lunch in house’s classroom
foreman gets called mini house and he hates it
house takes his classes on frequent field trips often unrelated to course content. they go literally ANYWHERE that isnt school
foreman chase and cameron have all graded papers for house
when foreman and chase graduate they both ask for letters of recommendation from house and he begrudgingly agrees and he never ever shows it to them (OR WILSON) even after it’s been submitted because its the nicest thing he’s ever said ever
house cried at their graduation (so did wilson but he cries every graduation)
wilson got house to play piano for a production. reasons for his success are unknown.

i’m gonna think about this clip every day for the rest of my life. the manhandling. the way house closes his eyes when wilson shoves him. the way he looks up at him. the way he says “i can feel myself repressing all kinds of icky things” while LOOKING UP AT WILSON LIKE THAT. a lot of choices were made here. this show isn’t real.
you know one of my favourite aspects of wilsons character is his ability to be a total dick and smarmy shit sometimes and i REALLY wish people would acknowledge those parts of him instead of pretending they dont exist. i am not interested in the fanon wilson who is a perfect angel i want the wilson who is weird and off putting too yknow
