Okay so I have something to say and it’s maybe probably in the ‘unpopular opinion’ category but hey, if you can’t vent feelings on your blog, where can you vent em.
So…feel free to skip this or ignore it and scroll on or whatever. I just need a moment.
I’ve been seeing a lot of people’s poses with Colin from the Paris con in my explore tab on Insta. And I have weird feelings about them. Here goes.
Like…okay I get that asking for CS poses is popular. Totally get that. But some of these poses are super intimate and just…they make ME feel uncomfortable just seeing the photo, nevermind how Colin maybe felt about doing it.
He’s MARRIED and these “foreheads touching” kinda pics just feel like…a no go to me? (Okay maybe the fact that I have a boyfriend of 5 years who is already not Colin’s biggest fan influences that a little. I respect him and my relationship enough to know doing a pose like that with someone he’s well aware I have the hots for would hurt him, so I just wouldn’t do it, period).
But aside from that. Back to Colin. Cos again…COLIN. HAS. A. WIFE. And I can’t help but put myself in the position of a wife seeing a photo like this of her husband posing with some girl who flails over how hot he is. Now I know she’s an extremely good sport and Colin has said she takes his fangirls in good humor, and they seem super secure as a couple, have been together for almost 20 years etc. But still.
I feel like asking for this or any other particularly ‘intimate’ pose is really disrespectful to Helen, nevermind Colin too. You’re not posing with Killian, you’re posing with Colin. Married Colin. Colin who is a real human being in a real committed relationship.
I know the idea of having your own super swoonworthy photo of you and Colin in a CS pose is awesome but Jen was his coworker and friend and they had a great professional relationship. He’s comfortable around her. Getting that close and intimate with her is part of his job. It’s scripted. He doesn’t know you. He’s not working with you (technically). He doesn’t even have to be at that con. This pose you want him to recreate with you isn’t scripted. He isn’t Killian. He’s Colin.
Yes, I know some of you are possibly rolling your eyes and saying “if he didn’t wanna do it, he wouldn’t” and okay, perhaps he would possibly just say no or try to alter the pose somehow if he was super unhappy about it, yeah. But at the same time, he may grin and bear it for the sake of making fans happy. And why would you want to be someone who would put him in that position of feeling strongarmed into doing something that could possibly make him uncomfortable? Why would you do that to an actor you love and respect?
Some of you are maybe taking the “well he’s being paid” route with it. He’s being paid to be there, yes. It’s an optional extension of his job. He gets a pretty penny for attending. That doesn’t, however, entitle people to do as they please and disregard his feelings and comfort zone. See below for continued discussion of “he’s human, not a doll”. I don’t give a rat’s ass if he’s being paid a billion fucking dollars to be there, he still deserves to be treated fairly and receive basic human decency in return for his optional attendance.
For me…this whole “intimate poses” thing crosses boundaries. I feel like some people somehow dehumanize him (and celebs in general tbh), treating him like a living doll that they can say and do what they want to.
Colin O'Donoghue deserves more respect than that. He’s got a new baby at home yet he’s made every effort to travel across the world so as not to let his fans down. And he’s thanked how? By people putting him in positions that could very likely make him uncomfortable. Come on, people.
