Meg Rosoff, How I Live Now
â...this is physically painful to watch, mate.â
fieryevans:
âAnger and misery work but donât let them be your only states,â she said with a small smile, âEveryone needs lighthearted times too.â
âThatâs life I suppose.â
âNaaaaaah, that would be boring and counterproductive.â he shrugged â...all this doom&gloom is starting to get on my nerves to be honest.âÂ
âNo one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.â âJulia Child
driedoutpines:
Edgar looked over and grinned. âHey!â he replied, his voice coming out enthusiastic even though he hadnât meant for it to sound so happy. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, Caradoc had made a pretty significant place for himself in Edgarâs life and he missed the other man when they were apart.
âNo, nothing like that,â he said, blushing a little. âAmelia is convinced that I donât know how to take care of myself and this is my rebuttal to that accusation.â He tried to hide the fact that he was floundering and did not, in fact, know how to make cookies, but he couldnât kid himself. He was hopeless.
âHey, uh,â he started, sounding like an idiot. âWould you wanna, um⌠help me make cookies later?â
Caradoc was speechless - for a moment. âAre you for real? Just...â he just couldnât wrap him mind around it. Was he really just asked to make cookies? By a guy he might have a crush on? In the Christmas season?! âI mean...how are cookies proving ...anything...?â it was weak. His knees were too but thatâs another story. Was reality fucking with him? Maybe he got cursed on this case and he failed to notice it? Some shitty spell like dream-walking or talking or just fucking hallucinating!
His mind started racing with wild scenarios-of fucking course! - and he needed to do something, anything now. âYeah, no problem.â play it cool, you are just two mates making plans to hang out, thatâs it. Completely. Normal.
@unkempt-flame:
âGetting angry over it isnât the solution, right?â She looked down. âSorry, I wasted your time with me ranting.âÂ
âHeyâ he leaned closer âitâs alright Em. Worldâs kind of shitty right now and itâs better to rant to me than to accidentally hex some unsuspecting citizen.âÂ
Caradoc stretched and sighed âWell I can see a few options for us to feel better : we can get smashed privately and continue ranting oooor we can go out muggle style and waste some energy. What do you think?â he smiled hoping to lift the mood at least a little bit.
Theyâve been arguing about this for two hours
âNo one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.â âJulia Child
driedoutpines:
Edgar had something to prove, and by god, he was going to prove it.
For days, Amelia had been on his case about taking care of himself. He knew how to feed himself, dammit! She wasnât convinced and he couldnât persuade her that he was fine, so he had went out and bought all the ingredients to make Christmas cookies.Â
More accurately, he had bought all the things he thought he needed to make cookies. Flour, eggs, sugar, frostingâwhat else did he need? Cookies were like, three ingredients, right? Edgar was confident in his cookie-baking abilities, even though he had made cookies only once when he was younger and theyâd come out burned. He was an adult now, and he could do this.
Checking his watch, he sighed and looked over at the elevator that would take him back up into the Department of Mysteries, then looked around at the people in the atrium, trying to find a way to avoid going back to work.
Caradoc was pretty pleased with his day so far - he just got back from a case, brought back a nice amount of gold for the bank and a lengthy report for Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Now he only had some unpacking to do and some cleaning before leaving for Wales for Christmas. He was almost out of the building when he saw a very familiar figure power walking to the elevators. Since he kinda(very much) missed the guy Caradoc jogged up to him. âHeeeey hot stuff! Long time no see...did you just rob a bakery?â the bags looked full and he managed to catch a glimpse of the contents.

-Â Â an urge to do something inadvisable
Person: What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?
Slytherin: Knife to the throat?
Gryffindor: Gun to the back?
Ravenclaw: Poison in his cup?
Hufflepuff: You're all horrible.
the-amycusville-horror:
Well, alright then. Amycus didnât hesitate, jumping up and taking a swing at Caradoc immediately, smiling as his fist connected with Docâs cheek. Still smiling as he sat back down, he said, âI did warn you that was an excellent way to get punched. Are you done taking the piss now, or would you like some more?â
As always his stupid mouth got him better of him...! Not that he regretted it. âYou made your point clear, thank you very much.â he swished some blood around in his mouth and spat it out to their left. âJust be careful not to step in that - itâs dirty.â he said calmly without any of his usual sarcasm.Â
fieryevans:
âWell worrying a lot incapacitates me, worrying a bit keeps me a lot more useful,â she said with a small smile. âItâs⌠tough.â
âSome people donât want to see. And it doesnât matter what happens right in front of them, If they donât want to know they wonât look,âLily replied with a slight shrug.
âI am personally fueled by anger and misery and chocolate so worrying kinda transforms into that...aside from chocolate.âÂ
âWell itâs gonna bite them in the ass pretty soon. Itâs already nipping at their buttock. Left one.â Caradoc said with spite.
unkempt-flame:
âNot anymore, I donât,â she murmured sadly. âThe worldâs been stupid..â she paused. âItâs always been stupid, but itâs even more stupid these days,â she insisted.
âWell...stupid is maybe not the right word - cruel, annoying, stubborn as fuck, bullheaded... I still think itâs more peopleâs fault to be honest. Sory to break it to you Em buuut I think that the world itself might be just a victim in this case.â
unkempt-flame:
âDonât you think I know whatâs happening?â Emmeline snapped, dropping the newspaper to the ground, annoyed.
âHeeey Em, calm down. Getting angry is not a solution. You know that.â
the-amycusville-horror:
â âS a good way to get punched, Dearborn. I recommend not doing that. Not everyone has their temper as in check as I do.â
He shouldnât, he really, really shouldnât...âOh gosh! Not everyone can be such a gift to humanity as yourself! Donât set the bar so high.âÂ
