“careful there.” anton just barely avoids being run into, granted it was his fault, but if the other thought he’d admit to it, he was wrong, “this is a new suit.”
cara couldn’t help but chuckle at the words. “oh, is it? i’m so sorry.” she teased, fake tripping and spilling her coffee on him. “oops...”
“you gotta light?” he asked, glancing over at the other.
his own was sitting in the pocket of his work pants back home. he’d gotten off at four, as usual, and shiloh wanted to go to the park. he was keeping an eye on the little girl who was currently playing on the meager playground equipment, entertaining herself eagerly. the older two had gone off with various friends, which meant he was a bit more nervous. in this town it was hard to trust anyone with his angels.
cara was in her head for a good moment before she realized what the man said and she quietly pulled her lighter out and handed it to him. “keep it. i have a hundred.” she told him, straight-faced.

there’s a blush as isabel nods her head. “well i would be more than happy to help, maybe i could get your number?” there’s a hint of uncertainty in her tone, rejection wasn’t something she wanted today.
“give me your phone.” she told her almost immediately, smiling. “you could definitely get my number, baby.”

“the messiest i get is when i sweat a lot after the gym or when i spill coffee on myself. i’m just not the messy type!” she shrugged. “i’m sure you can teach me a thing or two, though.”
“oh, i can school you babe.” she chuckled, shaking her head. “you know... i change my mind, i do like you.”

turner turned a shade of pink that was nticeable, even if he willed it not to be, still, he rose to the teasing, not really recognizing it as such, “i would if needed.” he said, “it’s towards the end of my hours anyways.” he blinks at her, cheeks still red, “a-anyway,” he says, hurriedly, “i recommend elevating it and icing it, try to stay off it as much as possible.
she noticed his face turned red and she chuckled slightly to herself, smiling up at him even though she had just been complaining about her ankle. “i would love that.” she told him, nodding at his advice. “any idea when it’ll feel better? should i come back for a checkup or something?”

Ellie frowned, shaking her head as she turned away, rather irritated. “Wow, whatever.”
“yeah, whatever, red.” she chuckled slightly, opening the unbought booze and taking a sip. “you look like you’ve been through it all.” she joked.

“i mean i usually don’t put myself into weird personality subcategories, but sure. i’m a cheery bitch.”
“yeah, all of this...” she motioned to the woman’s general aura, shaking her head. “i can’t relate to it. and i don’t like what i can’t relate to. give me something good. something messy.”

“really?” she sounds a little more enthusiastic about that than she intends to. “i mean…yeah, if you don’t mind. i’m closing up tonight if you want to hang back?” she asks, eyes following cara’s movements as she downs the drink. “rum and coke, gotcha,” hadley nods, catching the wink and shooting the other a smile before she turned to make the drink. she poured out a large measure of rum into two glasses and topped them up with coke, going back to place one down in front of cara and keeping the other for herself. she leaned forward, resting an arm on the bar while she used her other hand to lift her glass to her lips and take a sip. “might as well make the most of the free booze before i get fired. or quit.”
“i’d love to. it’s nothing.” she told her, shrugging as she kept working at her first free drink. she grinned at the other one, taking it and watching as the bartender sipped at one she had made for herself. “yeah, you might as well. i mean, you can’t quit... you’re the hottest bartender i’ve ever seen. gotta give the rest of ‘em a run for their money, right?”

“are you alright to get home?” he asks her, concern clear in his tone. turner has always had a big heart, it was part of what made him such a good doctor – and also a terrible one. his empathy made it hard to distance himself. “i’d be sure to take some ibuprofen or your choice of over the counter pain medicine.” he said, softly.
“what if i’m not? are you gonna drive me home?” she teased, watching him carefully.

“yeah, high school. scary, right?” she laughed at the other girls awkwardness. “i’ll definitely not fuck them, but i believe that everyone deserves a better future than most people living here.”
“i guess. you one of those bright, cheery bitches? because i don’t know if i can really keep up with that.”

she watches for a minute, trying to take a mental note of how the other was making the drink but a holler from a burly looking man waiting at the bar snaps hadley back into action. she serves him a drink, turning back and seeing that cara had already finished the bloody mary and was back at the other side of the bar, drink in hand. “i’ve tried. i can’t get the hang of it,” she explains, brows furrowing in clear annoyance with herself. she snaps out of it quickly and offeres a grateful smile. “thank you. you can have that one on the house,” she says, gesturing to the vodka and coke. “and whatever you have next is on me.”
“i’d be happy to help you, after your shift or... whenever.” cara offered, smirking slightly as she downed the rest of the drink. “and since you’re offering, i’ll have a rum and coke. heavy on the rum.” she winked, biting her lip as she checked the bartender out.

“good news,” turner said, something about the way she behaved made him unsure, “even any sort of movement means it isn’t broken.” he nodded, giving her a bright smile. “it’s likely a sprain, not a break or fracture.” he explained, “my recommendation is to call in to work for the rest of the day and tomorrow and rest it. make sure you keep it elevated. ice will help. you should be good to return to work by friday. did you walk here?”
she looked at him when he said ‘good news,’ smiling slightly and watching him as he spoke. did he know he was this fucking hot or did he just go about life as if he wasn’t? either way, she was into him. “oh, okay, good.” she chuckled slightly. “no, i... i drove here. with the other foot.” she told him, raising her other foot slightly.
“You know what never gets old? Forgetting to eat because I’m too focused on marking work.” She sighed, wiping the sweat from her forehead. “The things I do for the future of this towns kids!”
“you a teacher or something?” she asked, more to make conversation than anything since the answer seemed pretty obvious. “fuck the towns kids. not... fuck them... don’t fuck them... i’m gonna stop talking now.”

“well, let’s see.” turner moves his chair closer, hands cleaned as he lightly nd gingerly puller the lef of her pants up to get a look at her ankle, “it’s swollen, definately. can you move it in a small circle?” he inquired, gently.
she smiled as he touched her leg, pulling up the leg of her pants and giving her goosebumps. “i can try.” she offered softly, attempting to just barely move her ankle in the tiniest circle. “ow, ow...” she complained, pouting slightly as she stopped the movement.

“don’t know, never met a bad hugger before.” her standards are incredibly low, the definition of bad isn’t in her vocabulary. “on my third month, just unpacked my last box a week ago.”
“damn, look at you.” she chuckled, biting her lip before speaking again. “you should help me out, i haven’t even touched a box since i got here.”

“Hey, no judgement here…” Ellie said, though she eyed the other curiously. “I know the feeling.” The reasons were probably different, she figured, but it’s not like she was going to get into them.
cara glanced at the girl, looking her up and down before scoffing and moving her attention back to the aisles. “i’m sure you do.”
