Welcome to my blog!

Hi everyone! This is the secondary blog of my @deoxyribovoltaic-acid account, entirely about my new project, the Carbohs Region! The Carbohs region is a result of a single question: “How can I make a region of just fossil Pokémon?” With my background in natural history (pursuing a college degree in the field) and my need for a good creative outlet, I began work on my own Pokédex, and I’m happy to say that, as of the creation of this post, I have drawn exactly one (One!) Pokémon. I know that doesn’t sound like much (it isn’t), but I plan to give this blog consistent updates with lore and new Pokémon for the regional dex. PLEASE flood my askbox (or the askbox of @caltbohs-region) with ideas on mechanics and new mons. I’m pretty new to drawing so I expect to improve the quality of my drawings over time :)

Pickaia, the Chord Pokemon!

Type: Electric/Normal

As the first pokemon to evolve an internal cartilage backbone, Pickaia leverages the structure to swim in an anguilliform motion (like a snake). It's broadened tail not only gives it more thrust to swim, but also acts as a conductor to collect electrical energy from the friction its swimming creates. It then uses said tail to shock predators looking to make it their lunch.

Astraloid, the Cosmic Gift Pokemon!

Type: Fire/Dragon

Evolves from Carbohsian Minior

In the early solar system, the largest of Miniors would develop water pockets and ice within them, melting off in a glorious comet tail as they approached their young star. These Miniors would evolve into Astraloids during their graceful plunge into the center of the solar system. On collision with protoplanets, the water within them permeated out into their surroundings, over millions of years supplying all the H2O we now see on Earth.

Castform - Sandstorm Form, the Arid Pokemon!

Type: Rock

Sun form Castforms usually live in bright environments. Deserts can make a great place for them to live, at the trade off that every once in a while the wind will howl and the dust will blow into a sandstorm, changing its form for the duration. It is rare to spot Sandstorm Castforms due to the weather’s low occurrence and inclement visibility.

Excattoia, the Drilling Pokemon!

Type: Fighting/Steel

Evolves from Burroworm

As Burroworms dug deeper in the sediment to hide from predators, they would eventually encounter the true seabed beneath the microbial mats. This led to the development of a hard, spinning point surrounding its mouth to break deeper into the substrate. This deformation of the seafloor would threaten many Eohs species with extinction.

Burroworm, the Upheaval Pokemon!

Type: Fighting

Evolves into Excattoia

When predation first appeared, many animals opted for the development of armor, the senses, or speed. Burroworms would take a different route, learning to dig into the microbial mats of the shallow seas to hide from predators and ambush prey. Their activity would lead to drastic changes for the Eohs seabed.

Archanyte, the Loose Ground Pokemon!

Type: Normal

Evolves into Archagaarden With an explosion of life in the surface waters, many sessile organisms would learn to live on the microbial mats of the seabed. Rocks and debris that were caught in the mats would eventually be infested and become Archanytes. When the microbial mats began to disappear halfway through Eohs, Archanytes would be some of the last pieces of solid ground for corals and sponges to live on.

Archagaarden, the Ancient Reef Pokemon!

Type: Normal/Rock

Evolves from Archanyte Growing larger, Archagaardens are a paradise boasting shallow waters for many forms of Eohs life. With the appearance of Burroworm in the fossil record, this pokemon's importance for the survival of many sessile creatures cannot be overstated. In some areas, entire ecosystems can be dependent on one or a few Archagaardens to live atop of.

Arthrole, the Innovative Pokemon!

Type: Bug/Ground

Arthrole was one of the first Pokemon to really kick off the ocean bed and become truly mobile. Developing eyes, legs, and armor, they were capable of tackling almost any environment. As such, there is much diversity in their traits and looks depending on where they're found.

Viram, the Trojan Plague Pokemon!

Type: Poison/Dragon

Evolves from Deoxydal With the gem of a Deoxydal having increased vastly in size and complexity, it will become capable of forming new Vribozymes themselves. This finalizes its development into a Viram. This pokemon uses its massive gem to ram open foes, allowing its minions to spill out of its central column and attack.

Deoxydal, the DNA Pokemon!

Type: Poison

Evolves from Vribozyme Evolves into Viram

Having slowly drawn energy from the activities of its RNA, Vribozymes will add more nucleic acids to themselves to become more efficient and advanced. Those that change their RNA nucleotides for DNA ones will evolve into Deoxydals, given enough time. Deoxydal's increased complexity makes them a much more considerable foe than their precursors.

Trancecact, the Possession Pokemon!

Type: Grass/Ghost

If a Malactus’ flower wilted, the entire Pokemon would desiccate in a matter of days. Spirits that died in the desert sands would inhabit the husk, becoming a Trancecact. Trancecacts were weirdly much friendlier than living Malacti.

Malactus, the Unapproachable Pokemon!

Type: Poison/Grass

One of the very first flowering cacti known, Malactus would eventually adapt into our modern Maractus. In the sweltering deserts of the ancient past, Malacti survived by using their flower as shade and excreting a terrible scent, keeping it safe from the Sun and would-be predators.

Porygon - Aether Spec, the Virtual Pokemon!

Type: Normal

Evolves from a Kantonian Porygon when exposed to the Aether Upgrade Evolves into ??? Having gotten their hands on a Porygon from Silph Co, the Aether Foundation took a keen interest in Silph Co's work in allowing it to jump dimensions. After the Ultra Wormhole disaster, they made some custom modifications to this Porygon to suit their needs.

Stromatalus, the Solitary Golem Pokemon!

Type: Grass/Rock

Roaming the Earth when there was nothing else, Stromataluses are solitary creatures. Powering themselves via sunlight or heat from the planet, they'd travel over the shallow seas and barren land of its time, searching for something unknown to us.

Hemaslime, the Oxidized Armor Pokemon!

Type: Fire/Steel

Evolves from Kiffer while holding an Iron Ball When a Kiffer becomes more experienced in its fire usage, it begins to melt nearby rocks into hardened iron sheets. It uses these to form a shell around its rear, evolving into a Hemaslime. These creatures sift through the sediment for detritus and burrowing organisms to eat, as well as for more materials to plaster on their backs and to strengthen their shells.

Kiffer, the Patchwork Pokemon!

Type: Fire

Evolves into Hemaslime when holding an Iron Ball Upturning the sediment for food with their proboscis, Kiffers scootch slowly across the seafloor. To better protect themselves, they will sometimes heat up and harden the surrounding minerals into more solid plates, which it will pick up and place along its back.
