Tom was away a lot.
You knew traveling was a big part of his job, so you never did complain. That being said, it wasn’t easy having a boyfriend who was never around. All the missed birthdays, events, and art shows weighed on you after a while. You were more than proud of him, but you were growing lonely. He had a saying, something he said every time before he left you:
“Wherever I am, and wherever you are, we’re always looking at the same moon.”
And it used to assuage you. You’d go outside on nights he was away and stare at the moon, wishing he was looking at it where’ve he was. You knew it was never true though. He was rarely in the same time zone as you and was definitely not spending his precious time staring at the moon.

“Ladies and gentlemen.” Tom smiled bright at his seated family before him.
“Mum’s the only lady.” Harry pointed out.
“Lady and gentlemen.” Tom corrected with a little annoyance in his voice.
“Considering all the times I’ve fallen in the toilet because one of you forgot to put the seat down, I’d argue none of you are gentlemen.” Nikki shrugged and crossed her legs.
“That reminds me that I need to go do…something.” Sam said before dashing off. There was a hollow “thud” from the bathroom before Sam retreated back into the room.

“i want ice cream. can you make me ice cream?” you drunkenly request as tom helps you through the front door. he chuckles at the out of no where question and tightens his arm around you. “in the morning, love. ‘m not sure you can handle it now.” that makes you grin, nuzzling your cheek against his shoulder. “ooh, ice cream for breakfast.”
you’re just getting back from the homecoming party, if you will, that you and some friends put together for tom. he wrapped a movie in the states earlier this week.
the party wasn’t anything too big, dinner at a nice restaurant with a very generous happy hour. you’d taken advantage of that. tom thought he was the drinker of you two, but damn. you were throwing the things back and getting more giggly with each one. it was fun to see unfold, and you weren’t causing madness in the place, only enjoying the buzz you got.
when it was time to go, harry carried your bag and shoes out to the uber while tom carried you. he was the only one brave enough to volunteer. you spread out across the seats, layed all over tom. he listened to your drunk ramblings and rubbed your back, thinking to himself that it was nice to be home.
“tommy, did you have a good time tonight?” you wonder aloud, looping your arms around his torso as you walk. you’re not sure where you’re going, though. “i always have a good time with you. thanks for doing this.” tom smiles down at you and makes his way to the bathroom with you attached to him. you mumble a you’re welcome into his arm.
he flicks on the bathroom lights, pressing a kiss to the top of your head and guiding you in. you squeeze your eyes shut from the sudden lack of darkness. “nooo, too bright,” you complain, taking his hands and putting them over your eyes. tom brings them down to your cheeks with a breathy laugh. “sorry, love. i’ll fix it.” he gives you another kiss, this one an apology and on your forehead. you perk up just like that.
tom turns off all the lights except the one for the shower, this way it’s dark enough, but he can still see you. “ok, let’s try again,” he speaks softly. you open up your eyes, letting them land on him. “better.” pecking your cheek as he moves past you, tom reaches into the cabinet for your toothbrush. “i don’t wanna brush my teeth.” your voice comes out in a whine.
part of you is aware of how childish that sounds. the other part of you is hardly able to stand straight.
“i know, but you have to. you’ll get, um, cavities and such,” tom reasons with you and grabs your toothpaste next. you cross your arms in defiance. “i’m not a baby.” “you’re acting like one,” he jokes and squirts the toothpaste onto the bristles. before you get upset, he finishes off with, “my baby. now, c’mere.”
you dodge your toothbrush when he holds it out. “no,” you hum, tom sucking in a breath. he’ll give you the benefit of the doubt because he’s made you deal with far worse when he’s been drunk. “fine, then. i’ll do it for you.” you open your mouth to protest, so tom sticks your toothbrush in instead.
he uses his now free hands to lift you up and sit you on the counter. he’s got on a smug smile while you frown, seeing as you’ve lost. “open.” tom is back to a quiet tone now. you do as he says and let him take the end of the toothbrush, starting to move it around your teeth. he wraps his other arm around your waist to ensure you don’t fall.
there’s no one else on earth besides your dentist who would do this for you, who actually cares enough to shove a toothbrush down your throat. it sounds terrible, but it comes from a place of love. love, as tom carefully brushes each set of your teeth because you’re too stubborn to. love, as he stands between your legs and gazes down at you. love, as he gives up his night to make sure you’re okay.
the thought and alcohol running through you makes you emotional, tears pooling in your eyes. tom stops his movements with concern coating his features. “oh no, darling. did i put on too much?” he swipes his thumb over your lower lip, covered in toothpaste. “is it too... spicy?” you giggle, tears and mascara running down to your cheeks as you shake your head.
“no, no. it’s fine.” tom takes the toothbrush out of your mouth so you can talk properly. “then why’re you crying, hm?” he asks, barely above a whisper, getting onto his knees and looking up at you. “i just,” you shrug, a hiccup passing your lips. tom gets a disposable cup off the counter. “here, spit,” he tells you and holds it up to you.
you cry harder while you do, at his thoughtful gesture, at all his thoughtful gestures tonight.
“hey, come on. talk to me, y/n/n,” tom coos, putting down the toothbrush and cup, able to set both hands on your sides. “i- i missed you so much, and i don’t know how i even, like, survived without you,” you whimper out and sniffle through your congested nose. his eyebrows knit together. “darling-“
“and- and i feel bad because we were supposed to celebrate you tonight, but i drank too much and ruined it, and you- i- you deserve a better welcome back, tom. i-“ the only thing that cuts you off is a sob wracking through your chest. tom isn’t sure whether to laugh at how fucking sweet you are or cry along with you.
“y/n, i love you so much,” he settles on saying, pulling you closer to the edge of the counter by your waist. “i love you, i love you the most. you didn’t ruin anything.” he’s so genuine about it, big brown eyes meeting your glossy ones. a small smile graces his face. “but i-“ “you didn’t ruin anything,” tom cuts you off. you have to fight back more tears.
“i told you earlier, i don’t need streamers or balloons or, jesus, i don’t know, a parade to remind me i’m home.” his words make you both laugh a little, you licking off your salty yet minty lips. tom squeezes your waist and grins. “you’re home, you’re my parade, you’re what makes the twelve hour flight worth it.”
“i love you, tom. you can’t fucking imagine how happy i am to have you back,” you exhale, watching tom get to his feet and trying to wipe off your smudged mascara. “you never lost me,” tom murmurs as his lips meet your forehead, then your temple. he walks off to another part of the bathroom, but you take his arm before he gets too far.
“where are you going?” you eye him with remnants of your tears down your face, that you’re not aware are still there. tom can’t help but chuckle at the sight before answering. “to get your makeup wipes.”
Azriel honestly just stood there throughout the entire first half of ACOSF going “I shall offer to chaperone, I shall let them fuck like bunnies, I shall cockblock at certain times so they’re desperate for each other, and then let them go on sprees for days. This is how I win the Snowball War.”
