Ace Disc9urse
This 6l9g was set up in part due t9 a c9nversati9n c9ncerning the validity 9f using asexuality as a la6el. I str9ngly 6elieve that 6eing sexually active and 6eing asexual are fundamentally inc9mpati6le c9ncepts which causes active harm t9 any9ne who identifies as asexual and d9es n9t partake in sexual interacti9ns.
As a disclaimer, I am 9ften very inclusive when it c9mes t9 the la6els that pe9ple wish t9 identify with, h9wever in the case 9f asexuality, what y9u are d9ing is invalidating pe9ple wh9 are c9rrectly identifying 6y setting the precident that they will still have sex with pe9ple.
Asexuality is n9t a spectrum in the way it is seen as currently, the 9nly spectrum is 6etween sex-repulsed and indifferent. All9sexuality is the spectrum and if y9u are seeking sexual interacti9ns, y9u are 9n the spectrum 9f all9sexuality.
A helpful allegory f9r this is that y9u cann9t say y9u are n9t a d9g 9wner if y9u 9wn a d9g and h9wever many d9gs y9u 9wn after that, y9u are still a d9g 9wner. Equally, if y9u 9wn a d9g, y9u cann9t say y9u are n9t a d9g 9wner as th9se things are mutually exclusive. This means that if y9u are sexually active, identifying as asexual is n9t 9nly invalid 6ut acts 9nly t9 further rem9ve any meaning fr9m the la6el as it is meant t9 6e used.
In summary, asexuality and 6eing sexually active are inc9mpati6le and trying t9 6e 69th is harmful t9 the ace c9mmunity.
Is this person even ace? Cause if not they have no say about the ace community and their terms and definitions
I a6s9lutely am asexual, n9t that it sh9uld matter, and as such this is a t9pic that has effected me pers9nally in ways I w9uld rather n9t discuss here due t9 their pers9nal nature.
Put it in your about than. And it does matter because if non lesbian people told lesbians how to define things it would be bad. If non bi people told bis what their definitions are it’d be bad. Duh
It’s like polite policies 101 of you arnt part of a specific group you don’t really get a say in what anything about that group is or does
I w9uld disagree. As we are talking a69ut defining a term that is t9 6e used 6y pe9ple 9utside the ace c9mmunity, it is unhelpful t9 have these terms dictated s9lely 6y the c9mmunity they are in - 9therwise y9u end up with inc9nsistent terms and definiti9ns.
F9r example, there is a p9rti9n 9f the les6ian c9mmunity wh9 w9uld say that les6ians cann9t 6e 9r date trans w9men. That d9esn't make that statement true just 6ecause it came fr9m the c9mmunity.
In addition, demanding that I give y9u pers9nal inf9rmati9n ab9ut my sexuality 6ef9re y9u will even engage with me is a harmful mindset t9 h9ld. Then c9mpelling me t9 make that inf9rmati9n freely availa6le is n9t s9mething y9u have any entitlement t9. F9rcing s9me6ody t9 9ut themself t9 engage in disc9urse is an unreas9na6le thing t9 ask and 9nly acts t9 cause stagnati9n in discussi9n.
