Hi, guys!

Before we dive into all things pop culture, I wanted to take a second and introduce myself.

My name’s Carleigh and I am a self-proclaimed screenwriter, general arts enthusiast, and an Enneagram 4. (Shout out to all of my fellow 4s who also feel all the feelings!)

I graduated from college in 2017 with two degrees: a BA in journalism and a BA in human relations. (Which is essentially a combination of psychology and sociology, hence my fascination with understanding why people interact with stories. Also, yes, I’ve probably already heard your shitty joke about graduating with two BAs, so please keep those to a minimum.)

Since graduating, I’ve worked as a copywriter/social media strategist in the digital media sphere while writing various stories in my free time. My dream is to one day be a staff writer for television and my ultimate dream is to be a showrunner for a series!

This blog is a way for me to take the things I’m passionate about discussing and creating a dialogue with others who both agree and disagree with me. I am creating this blog knowing full well that not everyone likes the same stories I do.

I want to use this blog as a tool for helping me get outside my own comfort zone and watch things I wouldn’t normally be interested in watching, so if you’re reading this, tell me what you’re watching/reading/loving right now and I’ll start adding it to my list!

Better Late Than Never, Right?

There’s nothing like a new decade to inspire you to pick up blogging again, eh? 

I’ve started several new blogs in the last two years; I’ve even tried to keep this one up in the months after abandoning it when the class that required me to create it was over to no avail. 

After years of agonizing over the details (What does the theme need to look like? What should it be called? What about imagery? Do I need to start a content calendar?), it finally hit me. 

JUST START. JUST DO IT. 

Put the words on the (digital) page and worry about everything else later! As a writer, I can’t believe this didn’t occur to me sooner. Don’t worry about editing all of the chapters or word choice or the way you’ve arranged every sentence.

Just start. 

I started this new year and decade with only two “resolutions”: 

1. Write smartly for at least 15-20 minutes every day. 

2. Start creating pop culture content and blogging again.

So far, so good.

You might be wondering, “But what is the name of your blog? What are we going to talk about?!”

Well, I’ll tell you. (As for the blog name, that will be subject to change. Don’t put me in a box.)

We’re going to talk about all of the stories I love and then some! I’ve always loved pop culture and engaging with others over the stories that unite us. Whether it’s books, television, movies, or comic books/graphic novels, we’ll talk about it here. 

Pop culture is all about story, and if I know anything, it’s that humans love story. It binds us in unspeakable and truly beautiful ways. Not only do I want to talk about all of the things I love, but I want to discuss them and how they’re shaping the current cultural narrative. (I.e. Who’s telling these stories? Why is it important? That kind of thing.) As a storyteller myself, I want to shoutout the storytellers who are creating incredible worlds for us to enjoy and why we should be engaging with their work. #supportyourlocalartists 

So, this is me starting. Feel free to ignore the fact that the blog is in shambles, mkay? I’m working on it.
