“I don’t know how?! It just keeps being wrong. Like, my mom only puts a little bit of water in the pot, but I cover the eggs. I never now which one is the right way to do it? I just gave up on boiling eggs. Or cooking in general.” He laughed. “I like an opportunist. You should definitely charge people.”
“Of course I won’t - why mess with perfection?”
“That’s pathetic, dude. Truly pathetic - I weep for you.” Carmen claims. “I’m nothin’ if not an opportunist - but I’m also incredibly charitable, so I’ll give you your first lesson free.”

Dimitrie laughs. “I make enough bank without having to use my dog,” he says. “Mulțumesc foarte mult.”
Lucas looks mildly alarmed at the idea of Peggy being uncool, and he walks back over to them, holding out his arms for Dimitrie. Dimitrie picks him up and kisses his forehead. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she looks very fashionable,” he assures him.
“Hey, hey. It’s all very well and charming when you speak another language, but I really don’t know what you’re saying.”
Carmen hides a smile at Lucas’s shock, watching the pair. “Don’t worry, bud. I’ll help your old man pick out the most stylish collar ever. She’ll be the coolest dog in the whole town.”

“God, man. What have you got against quality ‘90s Vampires?Lestat could beat the shit outta Edward Cullen, even if he was played by Tom Cruise,” she claims, before shrugging. “Louis de Pointe du Lac,” she recites. “Of course he’s whiny. He’s a vampire and he’s a big ol’ queer. Queers have to be sad in literature - them’s the rules.”

“Yeah yeah, I got it. You’re a star athlete,” she teases, before rolling her eyes. “Yeah, sure. Don’t get too TMI with me, buddy. I still think of you as a little high schooler.”

“Alright, fine, a little bit. But can you blame me? At least it’s cute. Maybe I can get away with it,” he said with another laugh. “I missed it the second I stepped on the plane. But I always do. It’s like a magnet, pulling me back.” He lifted a brow. “Boring? You? Don’t believe that for a second. You’re fooling no one, Fox.”
“I can blame you,” She assures him. “And I will.” She smiles a little, before rolling her eyes. “I’m not trying to fool you - nothing’s happened, I swear. I’ve like, hung out with my dog and gone to work. Very unexciting.”

“Under-caffeinated is right. Grumpy, never,” Jace responded, glancing over in Carmen’s direction, an eyebrow raised. He laughed then, shaking his head for a moment as he said, “New York was amazing, as always. How’s the world of Carmen?”
“You’re a little grumpy. It’s cute, though. Endearing,” She assures him lightly, nodding. “Mmm, it usually is. I miss it. The world of Carmen’s okay. About as boring as ever.”

As they get closer to the dining tables, he rolls his eyes at her, but his expression still melts into a grin. “Ross is worse than a lot of people, and you’re better than a lot of people. The math is easy,” he says, elbowing her in the shoulder, which isn’t all that difficult with their considerable height-difference. “Is that bad? I never read Harry Potter. He seemed cool in the parts of the movies I saw, though.”
“That’s her actual name? Huh. Can’t really get more German than that. –Is that your criteria for judging folks? Whether or not they think you’re pretty?” he asks, chuckling.
“Aw,” Carmen says, casting a hand against her breast, palm flat against her heart. “Aren’t you just the sweetest thing? You’re gonna make me all emotional if you keep this up.”
She sways at the elbow, giving him one back in his side. “You’ve never read Harry Potter? Jesus, what sorta nerd are you?” She says, eyes widening in playful shock, mouth still curled up at the corners. “For first impressions, definitely. Someone can’t be all bad if they realize how gorgeous I am.”

“You have to be kidding me…” the words fell from Jace’s lips before he could stop them. He’d been rushed off his feet all morning so far and all he’d wanted was a latte. But no, they were out of caramel syrup. Maybe it was silly, but when that’s what you’d set your heart on, it did feel a little like the end of the world. “Okay, fine… vanilla it is then.” He paid for his drink, a soft sigh escaping him as he moved to the end of the counter, muttering junder his breath, “What kind of coffee shop is this? Honestly.”
“The kind run by the grumpiest, most under-caffeinated twinky blonde I’ve ever seen,” Carmen drawls, leaning up against the counter. She smiles crookedly, cocking a brow. “How was New Yawk?”

Dimitrie laughs “Oh god, our poor dog,” he murmurs. “What a picture.” On the carpet, Lucas gently pets Peggy’s paws and her ears, her snout. He looks her directly into her deep brown eyes, the same color as his own, giggling as she gently licks his face. Dimitrie isn’t surprised by his son’s gentleness with the dog, as he’s always been a sweet boy, attune to the feelings of the people around him. So it’s not surprising that he’s sweet with this dog, who has been through god knows what when she lived as a stray on the streets.
Lucas gasps with excitement at the idea and looks up at Dimitrie hopefully. Dimitrie laughs. “I’ll work on it,” he promises.
“She’ll look beautiful,” Carmen claims, giggling a bit at the image, muffling it with fingers against her lips. “She’ll be a hit. You’ll definitely make some bank.”
Carmen’s smile only grows at Lucas’s excitement, pleased to get the boy lighting up like that. She glances side long at Dimitrie as he promises his son, humming a soft sound of amusement. “I hope you make a very fashion forward choice - you can’t have Peggy goin’ out lookin’ uncool.”

“She’s way too young to become a part of your girl gang now, Carmen, God knows what she’ll learn if she starts hanging out with you.” Cecilia chuckled, picking up the one year old from the ground before she started to mess with everything around her. “We’ll start with supervised meetings and then move on to shared custody, you’ll have supervised access when she’s thirty.”
“You’re never too young to kick butt,” Carmen claims, hauling herself to her feet. “She’ll learn important life lessons. And how to make really good pancakes. The best.”
