Greek Mythology Recommendations
hey everyone!
i might’ve become an ✨amazon affiliate✨ (i am still very much anti jeff bezos though)
ANYWAYS this means that if you click on these links and buy it, i’ll get some money! isn’t that sick?
well, i bring this up because i figure it’s an excellent time to make a master list of greek mythology stuff that i adore, since i get asks on it a lot.
D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths - a GREAT starter. i read this when i was 3-4 years old (with assistance, of course) and it’s one of the first books that hooked me on mythology. you can’t go wrong with giving this book a go.
Bulfinch’s Mythology - i love this book. it makes you feel like an academic. my parents bought it for me for my twelfth birthday, and it’s become one of my favorites since then. very detailed, very technical- the best part? it’s not just greek mythology! this book has greek and roman myths to tales of the time of charlemagne.
Mythos - i would recommend this to you if you’ve already read a greek myth or two, but believe me when i say this book had me in STITCHES. it’s hilarious and as accurate as you could hope for.
Heroes - the sequel to mythos, done on ancient greek mythological heroes. in the same comedic style as the first, this one is *chef’s kiss* BRILLIANT.
Circe - i’ve been a circe advocate for the LONGEST TIME, and well. this book only supported that. the writing and story telling is beautiful, and it intertwines perfectly with the original tale. i’d call this an odyssey chaser.
Odyssey - speak of the devil! i’ve read the odyssey time and time again- it’s a classic (haha get it?? please laugh) and an undeniably important piece when you’re into greek mythology. i also really enjoy reading different translations/versions to compare.
Iliad - one of you’s gonna call me out for following an order, but i don’t care. i actually prefer the iliad to the odyssey (anything with less odysseus please), mostly for the story interests me more and i’m more familiar with it as a whole. again, necessary for greek mythology fans.
The Song of Achilles - hey, do you like greek mythology? do you like emotions? because wow, is this the book for you! i still haven’t recovered! in all seriousness though, this book is amazing. if you’re an achilles fan (or a patroclus one like myself) i can’t recommend this enough.
Percy Jackson - this one’s a bit separate from my other recommendations, because it’s entirely a work of modern fiction based off of greek mythology, but i grew up with percy jackson and while it didn’t spark my interest in mythology, it certainly helped me grow. if you’re looking for a good read (that you acknowledge isn’t very accurate) i highly suggest this one.
Mythology - again, another essential piece for your mythology collection. an oldie but VERY goodie, this one dips into greek, roman, and norse mythology!
i’ll add to this as i go, but i think this is a good starter for anyone looking for some mythology books! should i add other forms of media as well?

Magickal Properties of: Damiana
Scientific Name & Info
Turnera Diffusa, more commonly known as Damiana. This plant is native to Mexico and Central America. It can be found growing wild in Mexico, Central America, Texas and some Caribbean climates. Damiana is a small, leafy shrub that produces little, aromatic flowers. The aroma of these flowers have been described as “Spivey and warm”, similar to chamomile. When sold dried or used in teas or tinctures, the leaves are used.
Damiana was traditionally used by the native peoples of Mexico and Central America as an aphrodisiac. The plant began to gain popularity outside of native culture in the 1800’s, when an American pharmacist began touting Damiana as a potent aphrodisiac and “cure all” to many reproductive related concerns. Although scientific research has since disproven any potential aphrodisiac properties, Damiana continues to be associated with love and desire.
Today, Damiana is said to assist with a plethora of conditions related to both male and female reproductive health. It continues to be sold as a powerful aphrodisiac and is commonly taken as a tea or tincture.
Note: I was unable to find any substantial research to indicate that ingesting Damiana has any benefits. In fact, in high doses, Damiana is quite toxic. (See below in “notes” for more warnings). After researching, it is my opinion that Damiana should never be ingested in any form. Please consult with your doctor and do your own research if you are interested in taking Damiana internally.
Correspondences
Gender: Masculin
Element: Fire
Astrological: Mars
Deities: None found. If anyone has some knowledge on this, please share in the comments.
Symbolism for Divination and Spells: Love, Desire, Intimacy, Romance, Psychic Visions, growth, abundance, birth, reproductive cycles
Uses
Energetically, Damiana is associated romantic love and sexual intimacy. It can be used in spells that intend to attract or strengthen these things.
Damiana is also said to induce powerful psychic visions. Use it in incense blends before divination, or place it in a sachet for dreaming, astral travel or deep meditation.
In divination or dream work, Damiana can break down the mental barriers that otherwise block intuition or subconscious knowledge. Use Damiana in spells to increase clarity of visions.
Sprinkle Damiana on an altar whenever you are working on spells related to attracting romance.
Add Damiana to a spell bottle or sachet to bring a lost lover back to you.
Throw Damiana into a Beltane fire to call on deities that are associated with love, or for spells focused on growth, abundance, love or birth.
Notes
Warning! Damiana is toxic in high doses and has been shown to cause liver damage. A “high dose” will be different for each individual. It is best to consult with a healthcare professional before ingesting Damiana. Furthermore, Damiana has been shown to affect blood sugar levels, which can be very dangerous for anyone who is diabetic. Please do not ingest Damiana without first consulting a doctor and thoroughly researching how it may affect you.

Hecate : English Version
Incense’s smokes flit to the moon, while the spheres of fire, irradiate with their warmth the gloomy forest. Dark Priestesses recite their mysterious prayers, accompanied from hisses of snakes and the barking of dogs. From the thick fog materializes a pale woman whose triple face it is illuminated from the icy moon. Under his feet take shape the deadly spirits, that passing by dresses thin up to his deep eyes, the austere sorceress invokes a spell. Poem©: Me “The Triple Hekate"©: William Blake.
Hekat - Avernales: English Version
The hissing of snakes and the howling of the wolves accompany the night, while the flaming eyes tear the darkness. Just a flame you will see, while your mind sinks into madness.

Earth-Friendly Witchcraft
Whatever religious or spiritual tradition they identify with, most witches agree that there is something sacred about the natural world. We draw our power from the earth beneath our feet, the sky over our heads, and the air in our lungs.
And yet, many of us live in societies that are actively contributing to the destruction of the natural world. Most developed nations have a linear economy, which means resources are extracted and then sent on a one-way trip to consumers who will use them and then throw them away. This leads to overflowing landfills, air and water pollution, and quickly disappearing resources. The World Economic Forum predicts that, if our habits don’t change, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. And I dearly hope that by now we’re all familiar with the reality of climate change and its devastating impact on global ecosystems.
I’m not trying to scare you, but I do want to point out the hypocrisy of drawing power from the Earth in our magic while simultaneously contributing to her destruction. If we truly want to consider ourselves spiritual allies of the planet, we need to make an effort to live our lives — and practice our magic — in ways that are less harmful to her.
You don’t have to become an environmentalist or switch to a zero waste lifestyle, but we can all make little changes for a more sustainable life. There’s lots of information out there about how to live a more Earth-friendly lifestyle, so in this post I’ll be focusing on how to apply that same philosophy to your witchcraft.
Steps to a more Earth-Friendly Practice:
Limiting your consumption will automatically lower your negative impact on the planet. Follow my previous guidelines for avoiding consumerism to start shrinking your carbon footprint.
Avoid plastic as much as possible. According to the WEF, 70% of our plastic ends up in a landfill or in the world’s waterways, and according to Julia Watkins, author of Simply Living Well, only 9% of household plastics get recycled. Plastic (unlike glass and metal) cannot be recycled indefinitely — it can only be recycled a handful of times before it becomes too degraded to be repurposed any further. There really is no way to make plastic safer for the planet, so it’s best to just avoid it altogether. Look for tools made of metal, wood, or glass instead of plastics, and try to order things shipped in paper and cardboard when possible.
Create spells that won’t leave leftovers. One of the big contributing factors to our current environmental crisis is that we just produce too much waste. You can avoid this in your magical practice by crafting spells that won’t leave you throwing away a big ball of candle wax, herbs, and paper. Kitchen magic is a no-brainer for this, since kitchen spells are meant to be eaten. If you want to do a candle spell, use small candles that will burn up completely — I find larger candles are more likely to leave leftover wax. Making magical bath salts is another great option for leftover-free spells — just make sure everything you include is safe to go down the drain and won’t contribute to water pollution!
Forage for your own spell materials. One of the best ways to avoid plastic packaging and cut down on emissions from shipping is to use materials from your backyard! Learn about the plants, animals, and minerals native to your area, and take regular nature walks where you can gather what you need. Remember to only take as much as you need and to be careful never to damage the plants you harvest from. Make sure to carefully disinfect any animals bits you pick up — you can do this by burying them in salt for a full moon cycle and/or setting them in the sun/under a UV light for several days. If you find a dead animal and want to strip and clean its bones for use in ritual, this is a much more involved process and will require special research, equipment, and lots of time. And, of course, never eat anything you have foraged unless you happen to have an advanced degree in botany.
Keep a magical garden. Another great way to connect with the planet and shrink your carbon footprint is to grow your own herbs, vegetables, and fruits. You can, of course, grow food for your kitchen if you have space, but even if you live in a tiny apartment you can grow a handful of magical herbs in pots. For a list of common houseplants and their magical associations, check out this post.
Shop for spell materials at a local farmer’s market. Buying local is a great way to avoid the environmental impact of shipping produce, and it allows you to support small farms. Farmer’s markets also typically carry seasonal produce, which can help you align your magical practice with the cycles of nature. Farmer’s markets are a great way to find seasonal fruits and vegetables for kitchen magic, but you can use the produce you find there for other types of spells as well.
Trade paraffin wax candles for beeswax or soy wax. Paraffin, the material used for most cheap candles, is a by-product of crude oil, which is not only highly unsustainable but contains carcinogens (chemicals that may cause cancer). Beeswax is a sustainable alternative, and beeswax candles produce a “clean” burn, meaning it does not negatively affect air quality. Soy wax is a slightly pricier, vegan-friendly sustainable option that also produces a clean burn.
Use undyed, unbleached paper for your written spells. The bleaches and dyes used in most commercially available paper have a toxic effect on the environment. Colored paper cannot be recycled or composted because it will contaminate everything it touches. Use plain, unbleached paper for your written spells, especially if you plan to bury them in the ground or dispose of them outside.
Make sure your essential oils are ethically harvested. Essential oils are tricky — although they are marketed as natural, many of them are produced through unsustainable methods. Because essential oils are concentrated, it may take thousands of pounds of plants to produce a single pound of oil. This can have a devastating impact, especially for endangered plants like white sage or palo santo. Look for ethically-sourced, wild-harvested essential oils — these are oils that are gathered from the wild in ways that don’t hurt the local ecosystem. Mountain Rose Herbs and Eden’s Garden are two brands that are committed to sustainable essential oil production.
Instead of burying a spell in a jar, bury it in a hollowed-out fruit or vegetable. Many traditions call for spells to be buried in the ground. Items like jar spells and witch bottles are traditionally buried on the witch’s property. The problem with this is that plastic and glass bottles do not biodegrade, and will remain in the ground for years. Instead of putting these materials in the ground, bury your spells in a hollowed-out fruit or vegetable. As a bonus, you can choose this item to support your intention. For example, you might use an apple for a love spell or a spicy pepper for protection. Just make sure everything inside the spell is also biodegradable!
Keep a compost pile as an offering to your local land spirits. Compost is an easy way to reduce food waste, and it gives your garden a boost! Even if you don’t have your own garden, you can give your compost to a fiend who does or look into donating it to a community garden. When composting, it’s important to maintain a balance between carbon-rich “brown” ingredients (leaves, undyed paper, cardboard, etc.) and nitrogen-rich “greens” (fruit and veggie scraps, coffee grounds, egg shells, etc.) — you want about four times as much brown as green in your compost. Start your compost with a layer of brown — preferably twigs or straw to allow good airflow. Alternate layers of green and brown materials as you add to the pile. Every time you add to your compost, verbally express your gratitude to the land spirits. Your compost should be moist, but not soggy — you’ll know it’s ready when it’s dark and crumbly and smells like soil.
Make your own tea blends with loose herbs and a reusable tea strainer instead of buying teabags. Witches and tea go together like peanut butter and chocolate, but the individual wrappers on teabags create a lot of waste. On top of that, since many of these wrappers are dyed, they may not even be recyclable. Keep your teas earth-friendly by buying dried herbs in bulk and blending your own teas. Making your own blends is not only better for the planet, but also allows you to choose each ingredient for a specific magical intention.
Find ways to use your trash in your craft. This one is pretty self-explanatory. Instead of throwing things away, find ways to use them in your magic! Use food scraps from cooking, like carrot greens and potato peels, in spells. Turn an old shoe box into a travel altar. Add your coffee grounds to spells to ground them and manifest results in the physical world. You get the idea. Be creative!
Research different models for Earth-friendly living, like the zero waste/low waste lifestyle, sustainability, and the solarpunk movement. This will give you more ideas for a sustainable lifestyle, as well as a sustainable magical practice.
The funny thing about Earth-friendly living is that, the more time you spend taking care of the planet, the more connected you feel to it. I encourage you to try some of the ideas on this list — you’ll be amazed by how quickly you develop a deeper relationship with the Earth and all her creatures.

Nami’s Guide to Crystal Divination/Crystal Throwing
What is crystal divination? Crystal divination is using crystals and stones for divining purposes. This can be further broken down into small categories: Crystal Scrying, Single stone divination and my personal favorite Crystal Throwing. Crystal throwing is when you reach into a bag filled with numerous stones, gemstones and crystals. Upon drawing them you toss them onto a grid. Some interpret the patterns of these stones, others, such as myself, interpret where they land along with correspondences associating with these crystals.
Starting Crystal Throwing you will need a few things:
A bag large enough to place stones and crystals into to easily comfortably draw them from
A grid which can easily be printed off of online or homemade
Crystals of course!
Personally I feel the amount of crystals you have is a bit important. You need enough to get a range of readings. I personally have about 30 in my bag currently but I feel at least 15 crystals is sufficient. Now You want them to be around the same size, some may be bigger and some may be smaller but try to keep the sizes close. Some say you should only used polished tumbled stones but I use both tumbled and raw stones, I honestly think its just to protect and try to prevent scratching of softer stones.
As for the grids there are numerous kinds. I personally prefer using my homemade grid.
Mine looks as such above. I made it using a large piece of paper, purple sharpie and a ruler. I sectioned it off then using what I felt was important to me laid out where certain sections are. My sections include: emotional (health), Education, Home life, Health (physical), Mental (health), Social, Career, Financial, Family, Communication, Past and Future.
There are numerous other types of charts that you can easily find on Google to make or print out. I just personally like personalizing my charts to make it more connected to me and catering to what I wish.
Now for the crystals here’s a list of some of the crystals I know their divination meanings to and I use. Feel free to use any of these or other crystals you may have or wish to use:

How I throw stones personally is I take some deep breaths and ground myself. Then I think of the question I seek insight and advice on in my mind as I stick my hand into my bag of gems and swirl them around with my fingers. Once I feel a tug inside me saying to draw the handful I currently have I do and with my eyes still closed I drop them onto my grid.
I then open my eyes. If some of them bounced off of the grid i will move them onto the spaces they are closet to. If one is sitting on a line and are in two or more sections I will count it as being all of them.
Happy throwing everyone~
