They tried to take my story from me, vilified me, told lies about me; and by so doing they perpetuated their hate and misunderstanding about all of us. Perhaps their biggest misunderstanding was that I wasn't ever going to let that happen. We know the bitter taste of isolation and ceaseless condemnation by so many in society who vehemently defend the indefensible status quo. It's part of why we know the inextinguishable beacon that is our truth will never dim despite the trials we endure on our journeys. Empower yourself with the strength that accompanies your uniqueness and celebrate it! I'm about to celebrate my 63rd birthday. 🍾 Thanks to my family and all my friends who helped get me here! ❤️
Celebrating as it's our silver wedding anniversary. 🍾 I can't believe it as our first encounter was completely serendipitous. Different generations, cultures and a little twist to contend with 😉 but not only has it worked, it's flourished. It's all about being willing to respect each other's differences. No secret ingredient, it's just that simple. Thank you David for giving me love and proving it's possible for someone like me to be loved unconditionally. Your family's love and support has been a bonus too. ❤️ As tragic and devastating as my first marriage was, I still found love, acceptance and happiness. As trans people, it's easy to believe our lives will be filled with heartache, pain and sadness but we mustn't fall into the trap of accepting this as our lot in life. We are strong, capable, lovable people with so much to contribute and we're continuing to change the laws and ensuring this world is a better and safer place for ourselves and future generations.
Our sexuality says a lot about who we are because it describes many facets about us. Our gender identity, sexual orientation, body image and sexual expression all contribute to our sexuality but it's even more than all that. It's how we experience intimacy, how we express love, even how we speak and dress. My pinup and glamour days as a model were so personally empowering because it freed me from my life of sexual repression due to the endless insecurities I had known all my early life. Liberation comes in different ways to different people. At almost 63 years of age I appreciate being loved for being who I was always meant to be. It all begin with living my truth, by being my authentic self regardless what others in the world thought or said. #TransLivesMatter
Happy Independence Day! We all have the right to liberty but we know that is not the truth for so many. The freedoms we enjoy have been hard fought for, by ourselves and others before us, many of whom gave their lives for what we have today. It's therefore vital we celebrate our freedoms and fight for the less fortunate so they may know that great celebration one day. It means different things to different people. Personally, my journey to liberty came in the form of the wonderful feeling of living my truth and the sensation of completeness by unison of mind and body. It was a repudiation of feelings of inadequacy, of feeling trapped and restricted for being different and made to feel illegitimate. We are finally seeing the beginnings of being acknowledged and treated with equality. That for me is a cause for celebration, on Independence Day and every other day.
Every day should be Transgender Day Of Visibility as we deserve respect and recognition. I've been visible in more ways than one for a very long time. 😉 I was outed but that's okay as I know it helped so many. Today, feeling proud is so different than it was in the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately, we are still facing resistance but we're making great progress. I'm overjoyed to see how many more of us than ever before are involved in activism, fighting for equality, legal protection and spreading awareness. Being transgender is not a choice. ❤️
International Women's Day - March 8, 2017 To some I am a trans woman but that doesn't make me any less of a woman. United we stand! ❤ #DayWithoutAWoman #IStrikeFor #WhyIResist #BeBoldForChange #TransWomenAreRealWomen #CarolineCossey
Happiness is found in living your truth. I found mine as a teen.
Are we asking for a lot? Yes, if measured by all we're denied.
Three things you should never break: Promises, trust, and someone's heart. I've been through all of them and never believed that I could ever be in a relationship again. Being trans tends to give us more issues than most in intimate relationships. It can be really devastating and soul destroying trying to find a soulmate. Never give up on finding love as it all will happen as it was meant to be. I believe in fate and I met my present husband serendipitously 25 years ago and we're still together. ❤Happy Valentine's Day! ❤💋 #TransLivesMatter #TransIsBeautiful
Life threw us an incompletion, forcing us to write our own playbooks. The offensive lines can't break us. We will kick butt always! Together we're invincible!! ❤️Happy Super Bowl if you're watching the game, whether it be for the football, the ads, the halftime show or just to check out the studs! 😉🏈💋
When it's important, it's worth fighting for!
I wouldn't wish gender dysphoria on my worst enemy. For me to be happy and content with myself, I had only one option and it was gender confirmation surgery. My road to happiness. ❤
Our time is now and we will shine brighter than ever before.
So proud and appreciative to be labeled a queer hero. So many brave people out there and so much great work being done in the world to enlighten and combat hatred. We have come such a long way. In the early years, the term "queer" would strike panic and terror in us. We've since come to embrace the term and we celebrate our uniqueness, our individuality, our right to not only exist but to thrive. Thank you James Michael Nichols and The Huffington Post for all that you do.
Although this photo was taken last Christmas, she is still here with us. We've had some close calls this year as she is 90 years old and in declining health. I have been truly blessed as I have the best Christmas gift ever. My beautiful loving Mum! I am so grateful. Merry Christmas everyone and enjoy this magical time of year. ❤️
Revel in your individuality. Be authentic and believe in yourself. ❤
