Hi! I really love your work! I'd like to get into paper art, but I've only ever seen you, and Britney Lee, do stylized/ animation looking paper art; I don't want it to seem like I'm "copying" you two, if that sounds weird... Are there any other awesome artists who also do paper art? What made you get into it? It really fascinates me, and I love working with my hands. Thanks, and I hope this wasn't a weird question to ask!!
Hi!! Thanks for reaching out!Â
There are sooooo many different paper artists (many of whom I stare at their work and wonder how the heck they make it all so incredible and amazing)! Cut paper has been an illustration media foreverrrrr (Matisse actually did paper cuts because his arthritis got so bad)- and it has fascinated me since I was a kid (I should post one of my childhood cut paper illustrations for a TBT, huh?).Â
Here are some of my favorite cut paper artists:
Helen Musselwhite (her stuff is amazing, and has inspired me to try 360 degree illustrations), Jeff Nishinaka (his Lion King cut paper is incredible), Maude White (incredibly detailed), Thomas Witte (great use of positive/negative spaces), Megan Brain (she's a whole new breed of awesome), and Kevin Kidney (He's aaaaamazing. I'm convinced a lot of these incredible artists have a body part name so they can all combine to create one super incredible amazing artist).Â
I hope this helps, and let me take this opportunity to announce my cut paper class coming to skillshare next month! Keep an eye out for more information, but I'll be covering my technique for creating cut paper illustrations!!Â
Just added a fresh batch of cut paper originals to my etsy shop! Check them out, Iâm sure theyâd look great on your walls! đ https://www.etsy.com/shop/CarolineDoodles

I did another cut paper time lapse video! It starts about halfway through my process (my camera died on the first half, but the second half seems more interesting than the first, so that's what I'm posting!). Anyway, enjoy a glimpse into my process!
Hi! I was wondering if maybe you had a FAQ page on how you do you paper art. I love your paper cut outs and I've tried to do it myself for years now but the materials I use don't seem to be lasting long or work very well. It would be nice to know what materials you use and techniques you use. Do you have any tutorials? Thank you for taking your time to read this.
Hi Friend! Thank you so much, I have to admit I love hearing that and it makes me so happy people are out there enjoying my work on the internet.
This question is one I get a lot, I'm hoping to start a small online tutorial (hopefully in the next month or so) to help people with process and materials! My best concise advice is use a thick card stock, always make sure it's 100% acid free. Any papers made with acid will yellow, fade, and deteriorate over time. Any finished piece needs to be kept out of direct sunlight, keep in mind these are still just tiny bits of paper so they can bleach just like any piece of artwork! Basically, a thick acid free card stock will hold up better than a cheap flimsy one, also only use acid free photo-safe glue.Â
Keep an eye out here for an online "class" announcemnt! Â
Four princesses made from cut paper for a friend's daughter's birthday! I'm pleased with how these ladies came out (Elsa had snowflake effects added for the final framing). Enjoy!
Hoping to edit these pictures soon and get mini prints up in the shop. Although, for now you can browse my other prints available here!
Much like the rest of the world, Iâve been quite obsessed with Disneyâs Frozen. I couldnât help but illustrating the beautifully designed sisters myself. Made from acid free cut paper, acrylic paint, and acid free archival glue. The original framed (but not under glass) pieces and prints are available in my etsy shop! I hope you like them as much as I loved making them!
Prints and originals available in my etsy shop now!
Hi! I recently found your blog and LOVE your work:) Ive actually been wanting to try my hand at paper cutting but dont know where to start. Like the frame... Is it two or just one, how do you get a sketch to make sense when your cutting? -Chloe
Hi Friend!! Thank you so much, you're too sweet! <3
My approach is mostly just a "go with the flow." I usually let my frame inspire me, I keep a large stock of them at all times. Some have a lot of depth, some have just a tiny bit, some are shadow boxes, and some have mats (some don't). My favorites have a little bit of depth and are framed with a double mat (ie the green unicorn). Â I do my final drawing the size of the final artwork. It's all about composition, just like any illustration!Â
Here's a time lapse video I did of one of my pieces, you can kind of get an idea of how I work from this!
An original cut paper piece, this time of a forest unicorn! Frame size is 10x10. Artwork size is approximately 5.5x5.5.Â
It's now up for sale in my etsy shop!Â

I wanted to share a piece I was commissioned to do, and I was very very excited to work on. I was commissioned to do a 13x19 canvas painting for a baby nursery that was Lion King themed. Those who know me know how much I adore that movie, so a commission like this was extra special.
I hope you enjoy!
