Any new stories about your students? :D
this has been the hardest year of teaching I’ve ever had and I’ve wanted to quit roughly once every two days since November which is why I haven’t been posting about work a lot
That being said, I do love my kids even though they drive me crazy this year, and here are some highlights:
One of my students thought that we were taking a field trip to Applebee’s and not an apple orchard and cried when he was handed an apple and not chicken fingers
One of my kids went as a basement for Halloween. Like she wore a box and put a little staircase inside with spiders and such
One kid refers to the zoo as “the animal zoo” and it terrifies me because that implies he knows of another kind
Otherwise we have a lot of fun because about 50% of my class is ELL/ESL so we get a lot of super sweet translation problems
Like one of my kids calls her boots her conejitos because they have bunnies on them but she thinks the word for boot IS bunny which is v cute
Same girl and her best friend have like a Marco Polo system where if they are more than 5 feet apart they just start SCREAMING the other girl’s name followed by “ADONDE VAS” like they are drifting away to sea, when in reality I just made them walk in different lines
We have a new teacher named Melina but because my kids aren’t familiar with names much they do word association and rhymes, so one kid thinks her name is “Mr. John Cena”
One day I told a girl in my class I was proud of her and she didn’t know that word so I had to define it, and she told EVERYONE and now tells people she is proud of them constantly
All my English speakers are learning Spanish from their friends, like at the beginning of the year my class was very much split into comfort language barriers, but now they are all getting along and speaking a mix of both languages and doing like the “point and learn” thing with each other. One of my English speaking kids went home and told his mom they need to learn Spanish so his best friend can come over, and they actually did learn like very basic stuff to arrange a play date :’)
And my favorite thing all year, one of my little boys thinks the word for crouton is “puta.” So he always asks for salad and then whispers “and putas and ranch” bc he knows he can’t say puta. So every day we work on how to say crouton, and it’s been months and he still can’t do it and I love him
Wow this got so long but I really love my job ok 💖
