A more detailed introduction to Pamela; In her first life she was a Raleigh Technium (between 84-87) 6 speed with a two rings up front and indexed lever shifters on the down tube. To make the conversion to the fixed gear; Drive train- The small chain ring was removed, spacers were used to move the large ring toward the bottoms bracket to align with the rear cog. The rear derailer, front derailer and all cables were removed. The rear cassette was removed and replaced with an 18 tooth 1/8 inch cog and lock ring. Fortunately with a little bit of local machine work on the lock ring we were able to use the original rear hub and did not have to replace the rear wheel. Once the hearing was set up a 1/8 fixed gear chain was installed. This set up is a true fixed gear with no free hub, the pedals can not coast. The tires and tubes we rotted out and all needed to be replaced. The rear brake and road style break levers with cables were all removed. The front break was left on and we added a "bmx" style break lever to the tops of the handle bars. The bar tape was replaced with a synthetic brown leather as was the saddle.
