Henry settles in for sleep, in surroundings both familiar and unfamiliar, comfortable and uncomfortable. Goodnight, lads. I hope you're not too desperately hungover in the morning.
Well, there you go! That was Nightcap. To everyone who followed along, wow thank you so much! This was totally new territory for me in a ton of ways: I've never made a fan comic before, completed pages in batches, or posted for an online audience. You guys have been so nice!
I wrote the script back in March and then sat on it because I was like "I can't set aside a full month of my time to draw a hansry comic that's not even explicitly romantic, like get real." Well! It took me two months, and I'm glad I did it. I really, really enjoyed the process and kind of want to just keep going, all other life obligations be damned.
I also just wanted to make this as a little love letter to everything I enjoy about the KCD1 Hansry dynamic, because, man, I adore these guys. I really do. I love their laddish foolishness, their petty arguments, their affection, their station-defying, boundary-pushing friendship. I love the ways in which they take each other's weird behavior in stride and the ways they get caught off-guard:
For Hans, it’s Henry’s impertinence (which is both aggravating and refreshing), but also the simple, sincere way in which he offers his friendship.
For Henry, it’s Hans' erratic behavior (which is both aggravating and refreshing), but also the fierceness of his generosity, praise, and affection.
I'm really proud of this one and glad I got to share it with you all. I'd love to make a KCD2-centric comic eventually or something with Tess (I have scripts written for both), but I really actually do have to tend to my real life (boo hiss).
