imagine you're a starfleet captain and you're grumpy and then your navigator won't stop making stuff up about russian history and then you get a distress call urgent enough that you're imagining the worst but it's just this GUY and he's rude to spock and he wants you to sit around watching a big box of wheat for no good reason and everyone is laughing at you for not knowing about the wheat and then starfleet calls and tells you that you have to listen to him and then the KLINGONS show up and you have a headache and there are weird little furry creatures on your ship and spock likes them and then half your crew gets into a fight but it wasn't to defend you even though the klingons were mean to you and then you have to deal with a snake oil salesman called Cyrano Jones and the really annoying grain guy won't leave you alone and there are so many furry little guys on your ship that you are starting to lose your grip on sanity and bones just thinks its funny and then you realize the klingons might be sneaking in the vents and then about a million dead furry guys FALL ON YOUR HEAD and the grain is gone and the guy is rude to you AGAIN and then you find out there was a double agent because the furry guys HATE klingons and then you find out that spock maybe caused a massive diplomatic incident by letting scotty beam all the damn TRIBBLES onto the klingon ship

for all the era-typical flaws in how ds9 presents homosexuality, I really appreciate that the actors and the crew lean into queerness even when they're not allowed to say it's name. I love that Garak and Bashir openly and shamelessly yearn for one another. I love that Quark is so obviously attracted to men and women – to Pel, even before the reveal, to Odo, to Natima Lang, to Grilka. I love Kira's deeply closeted lesbian ass being obviously head over heels for Dax, the Obrien's third, and ultimately partnered up with a literally fluid man. I love the obvious homoerotic undertones to Ben and Curzon's relationship that extends to his relationship with Jadzia – I love Jadzia! She's a woman, she's a man, she's a worm! I love the trans undertones for both Bashir and Dax. the queerness is so deeply knit into the very fabric of the show, it's so good, it's so healing in the strangest way. I need it. I love it. I'm grateful for it
