Merlin Reads: Quinsey Wolfe's Glass Vault by Candace Robinson WHAT INTRIGUED ME: The author offered a e-book in exchange for an honest review. And cover is simply gorgeous. WHAT I LIKED ABOUT QUINSEY WOLFE'S GLASS VAULT: I really like the plot and how effortlessly creepy it was. It was very plot driven rather than character (even though it's in 1st person) and so I don't really have an opinion about the characters. The plot twists were incredibly well executed and the ending was astonishing. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT QUINSEY WOLFE'S GLASS VAULT: The writing, especially and almost exclusively in the beginning, was juvenile. It definitely needed to go through a few more rounds of editing. Contributing to this, I feel like the beginning was a little unnecessary. Instead of having that long set up, jumping right in or even just cutting it down would have been better. WOULD I RECOMMEND? Yes! Support small authors! I can't wait to read the second one.

TW: Antisemitism. A lot of it. And a dash of homophobia to top it all off.
I think it’s important that those of you who are interested in writing main characters who experience a marginalization outside your own take a peek at this article by @bibliogato. Trigger warning for extensive discussion of the Holocaust including quotes about dashing Nazi uniforms.
There are a lot of “don’ts” in here, some minor, some thematic.
Please read the entire article. I am speechless.
Just reading those few quotes, I am disgusted.

WHAT INTRIGUED ME: I love Boom! Studios and girl detectives. WHAT I LIKED ABOUT GOLDIE VANCE VOL. 1: The art is simply gorgeous. I love the color and line style! The characters were also very fun and interesting and real. I'm already I am super excited to see these relationships grow! I also love the diversity of the characters, whether race or sexuality . It was quiet refreshing to see, especially in a comic book. The plot and setting is very interesting and fun. I love that Goldie Vance is a classic mystery setting (in a hotel, has a gang of friends to help her, Goldie is willing to bend the rules or law to discover the truth but is very good at heart), but as a comic! WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT GOLDIE VANCE VOL. 1: I honestly can't think of anything. (!) (and usually I try to remember something but this time, nothing's coming up!) Would I recommend? Definitely!!
