Thane || Make it Feel Like Home
“I’ll be sure to ask her.” he paused and then shook his head when Jane said that something was bothering him. “Nay, nothing but the usual worries of a man.” he offered a small smile and hopped that it didn’t come across too forced. He preferred not to speak of his concerns at this time. Especially with Jane. Being afraid of time passing, there was nothing either of them could do about it. All they could really do as of now was enjoy what they had. Together.
“I agree.” Thor nodded his head in approval. The room was better suited for him now. “Fantastic!” he smiled when she agreed to stay for dinner. He walked with her to the kitchen, moving his hand into hers as they walked and then letting go once they got there. “That sounds grand. I don’t know the first thing about Lasagne. Darcy has made salad with me before, so I can prepare that.” he started to pull out some ingredients. He got out the lettuce, some kale, and spinach. Then he grabbed some vegetables and spread out a assortment of them on the cutting board on a counter. He grabbed a knife and started chopping a carrot into small slices.
“How is your research coming?” he asked her. He truly admired her work and efforts. Not only was she smart, but she was also passionate and it showed in everything that she’s done. “Have you spoken with Banner or Stark while working in Avengers Tower?” Thor asked. He believed the three of them would have much to talk about.
Thor started to cut up some cucumbers, slicing them carefully. He glanced over at Jane and smiled. Was this what normal mortal couples did? They prepared dinner in a home. The whole white picket fence dream of most people. He could see himself living like this, maybe a couple kids running around. It was a only a thought, one that could and most likely never become a reality. Thor was Asgardian, Not only that but he had a responsibility to protect earth and keep the other realms at peace. He wondered where Jane Foster saw herself in twenty years. It was no time at all for Thor, but for her it would be a good chunk of her life gone by.
"Really? And what are the usual worries of a man such as yourself?" Jane posed the question casually even if she noted the slight tension behind his usually bright smile. She did have a hunch on what bothered him, but she was truly helpless when it came to that particular concern for time stopped for no one. The cliché of star-crossed lovers was true when it came down to them both. Although, the awareness didn't stop her from falling for him harder every time they shared a laugh together or spent late nights under the stars discussing science. And it scared her to think of the time he might have to leave for she was completely lost in the amazing man he was-- shaking her head to get rid off worrying thoughts, she decided to concentrate on her boyfriend and their dinner.
"Was the salad even edible?" She asked him with one of her eyes closed while her lips stretched in a teasing smile when he mentioned cooking with Darcy. Nodding her head and turning back to arranging the lasagne strips on the tray, "Yeah...spoke to them both just today which reminds me, my device had recorded another gravitational anomaly not too long back. Just like the ones during the convergence....do you think it's any of your Asgardian friends? I mean, I did meet one yesterday..." Jane trailed off remembering the redhead. She was always accused of bringing work home by Darcy and Erik before. But this-- discussing it with Thor while cooking dinner felt different. Like coming home for once. The two years of separation felt like nothing more than a terrible dream now, crushed under the promise of the past few months spent together.
Preparing the ingredients for the sauce, she took the frozen steak and ground it quickly in the food processor before starting to sauté them in a pan as Thor began chopping the vegetables for their salad. She could feel him watching her and after a good five minutes she turned to face him with a hand on her hip and an upturn of her lips, "What's that amused look for?"
