sometimes what people assume is dean’s facade isn’t really a facade at all. i’m talking specifically about dean’s john coded traits. not everything has to be an act! dean doesn’t always behave like john intentionally, because he wants to be like him—some of those traits are just natural to him, in the same way some of mary’s traits are natural to sam

i find it strange to argue that sam’s john coded traits are “inherent”, while dean’s john coded traits are dismissed as a facade or framed as him merely trying to imitate his father. especially when dean eventually does become his father—something the show itself confirms, and something jensen has acknowledged as well

and honestly, i don’t understand where the take that dean is afraid of becoming his father comes from. he very clearly enjoys being compared to john and actively longs to replace him as the authority figure after john’s death

(that’s also why he’d love it if sam called him “dad”)
