Summer SolsticeĀ Sweet Treat
So this isnāt the fancy Aestheticā¢ post I was going to make but I was determined to do some kitchen magic today, aesthetically pleasing or not.
This is a simple, no bake tart that you can put together in no time and enjoy after chilling for just 1-2 hours. I can break down the ingredients in the future if anyone wants but overall itās a love-based, feel good treat.

Talking about how men are always violent and women are always Pure
They say females instead of women
Look at the usernames for phrases like āradā āterfā and usually references to genitalia

I just NEEEED to walk barefoot through the dirt in a soft yellow dress, wandering my big backyard garden while I leave the dough to rise in my warm kitchen. I close my eyes when the Sun touches my bare shoulders. Everything out here is alive.Ā
Okay. Gardening 101; or āAuntie Sys I have a yard thatās currently a yard and donāt know SHIT or FUCK about how to make it not be a boring-ass yard.ā
Step 1; go to your local landfill and get all of the newspaper you can. Cardboard will also work. If your neighborhood puts them out for recycling, go around and grab them all like a little newspaper goblin.
Step 2; acquire mulch. If you WANT, you can go pay for it at a garden store, but weāre all cheap lazy bitches here so screw that. Most landfills will collect yard waste and branches and chip them into woodchips, which you can get for PENNIES or FREE. Go load up on that good shit.
I like straw too, which I can get for barter because I am related to half the people around here and a solid 65% of my extended family are farmers. I give Uncle Daryl three quarts of elderberry jelly or a couple pounds of morels in spring and he loads me up with straw bales.
Step 3; figure what parts of grass you want to be not-grass, and cover that shit in newspaper, good and thick. 5-10 layers. It helps to wet the newspaper to keep it from blowing away as you work.
Now, cover that newspaper with a good thick layer of mulch.
Congrats, youāre removing the grass. Itāll starve to death under the mulch and newspaper and rot into compost. You now have garden beds and have not dug one single bit of sod.
If you canāt wait for six months to plant, pull the mulch aside, cut a hole in the newspaper, and dig out a plug of sod the size of the planting hole. Throw some compost in there and plant. Tuck mulch back around plant. Water well.
There ya go. Garden beds. In a year, when you pull back the mulch the newspaper will be almost rotted away, and the soil underneath soft and loamy.
I like to edge garden beds like this with rocks, which I can ALSO get for free because I live in the part of Iowa dotted with limestone quarries. Just, pick that shit up along the road and
Iām collecting flat ones for a FREE crazy paving path too.

Protip; the best way to do a large area without killing your knees or back is to load up a bucket of water with newspaper, sit down on the grass, and sorta scoot your ass along as you drag the bucket with you, newspapering as you go.
Then dump buckets of mulch on that and spread it out with your feet. Just sorta kick it where you want it to be.

AAAAAAAYY my mom did the much-to-get-rid-of-lawn thing over the course of a winter- sheād read the paper in the morning then go spread it out on the lawn and toss muclh on it.Ā By spring it was ready to cut holes ans dump irism day lillies and peonies into.
and all this BEFORE she got her hip replaced.

Buttons in Witchcraft
Buttons are incredible little tokens much like coins or rocks that can be used for a plethora of fun and useful witchy crafts. Theyāre small, portable, wearable, transferable, and can be made easily or found for very little money at most thrift stores and craft shops!
Useful and fun ways to incorporate buttons into your craft:
Ā ā Draw or paint sigils on the back of buttons with a sharpie and seal with some clear glue/resin. Sew them onto your shirt, bag, or thread them to wear as jewelry!
ā Friendship spells! Buttons are a kind of clasp or connection, therefore using buttons in spells for bonding can symbolize a connection, or clasp, of two or more people!
ā Buttons can be used as altar decorations, and larger buttons can act as tiny plates, display stands, or bases for mini offerings!
ā Buttons of certain materials can be used to harken back to certain elements, like clay or wooden buttons for Earth, or shell buttonsĀ for water.
ā Ancestral work! If anyone in your family has sewed they probably have a box/jar/tin of sewing supplies left around with some buttons in it! Use these on ancestral altars to again create that connection.
ā Divination. Often buttons are used for eyes on dolls and stuffed animals and placing a button in front of you during a divination ritual can help you visualize and therefore open your third eye.

What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.

1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesnāt count.
2) you CANNOT smudge. This isnāt just you āshouldnātāā this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.
3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! Weāre here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.

the thing folks living in Christian dominant cultures gotta realize is that even if youāre not Christian, your basic understanding of religion and spirituality and morality is still being filtered through a Christian lens. your very concept of what religion is and does is filtered through that lens.
This is what I call cultural Christianity, for those who are still confused

Actually thatās even more specific - thatās Calvinism, which predominates in America. America isnāt just culturally Christian,itās culturally Calvinist, which very specifically focuses on submission, the fear of damnation, and conversion. Itās also not just any old Calvinism, but a very rigidly puritanical variety thanks to our roots.
There are other culturally Christian countries, which are of other denominations and therefore have a slightly different bent. England is culturally Anglican, Germany is culturally Lutheran, Italy and Spain are culturally Catholic, Russia is culturally Orthodox, etc. However, even the cultural Catholicism of Italy is different from, say, the cultural Catholicism of Ireland.
So even here, we need to be careful not to filter other culturesā Christianities through what is a very Americanized (via @queertilly) Christianity, and vice versa with other countries. Speaking as an American, even our concept of what Christianity is has been Americanised.

Oh to be a gremlin child again. Covered in grass stains and grazes, hair unbrushed with daisies in the knots, no concept of my own physicality, half way up a tree and eating an apple around my missing tooth. As a witch who is also white, I just gotta say that once I find out that a witchy practice is closed (ex. Smudging or hoodoo) I back up right away.
I donāt get how yāall think you are entitled to any of these types of practices
From one white person to another: knock it off, there are so many witchy things you can do. Donāt take things away from others. Itās a shit thing to do.
šAPHās SERIOUS WITCH TIPSš
After a long and hectic year of making magic, Iām taking on a different tone with this post. Angry Momma Aph is here to whoop your butt with some wisdom.

- donāt leave non biodegradable offerings or spells outside. No glass! Ever!
- yeah roses are great but be aware of what youāre working with with any herb. Roses especially translate into excitement and a desire for mystery. (Apart from the usual love connotation) Dousing yourself in it can cause a lot of risk taking.
In the same way really research any herb you use often.
- if you do curse, be aware of your intentions and actions. Program reversals into your spells.
- in the name of all thatās good check if your essential oils are skin safe before making anointing oils/perfumes etc. You WILL end up with a nasty red burning rash if you donāt do your research. In the event that this happens, forgo the soap and water and go straight to coconut oil on the area to dilute the essential oil.
- donāt do rituals with a coven youāre not 100% comfortable with. You donāt want your energy mingling if youāre not on the same level.
- clean out your mortar and pestle between grindings. You can do this by crushing up some rice and then giving it a good scrub and wash.
- never ever ever base your knowledge off tumblr posts. There are many websites, books and podcasts from serious practitioners and historical and folk sources that give you the real info behind the ātrendyā tumblr reblogs. Do your research if you take your craft seriously.
(This said, every post I make is meticulously researched and I donāt post according to a āvibeā I feel)
- itās spelled āaltarā not āalterā
- results only come if youāre hyper focused. Not just throw shit around focused. Take time to calm and ground yourself before any spellwork.
- THINK before you do a love spell. Itās easy to be caught up in the moment and want someone very badly, but a month down the line it could be completely detrimental. Leave your love spells for when you know a relationship is what you and your partner both want, and that thereās a consensual attraction between you two.
- you are never ācompelledā to work with a deity. If itās not up your alley you donāt have to do it. Even if you receive signs that one is reaching out to you. No doom and gloom will come down on your head if you refuse.
šæ keep studying hard and making your magick in 2019, make it your year! Will it so! šæ
