Research has shown that pleasure affects nutrient absorption. In a 1970s study of Swedish and Thai women, it was found that when the Thai women were eating their own (preferred) cuisine, they absorbed about 50% more iron from the meal than they did from eating the unfamiliar Swedish food. And the same was true in the reverse for the Swedish women. When both groups were split internally and one group given a paste made from the exact same meal and the other was given the meal itself, those eating the paste absorbed 70% less iron than those eating the food in its normal state.

Pleasure affects our metabolic pathways; it’s a facet of the complex gut-brain connection. If you’re eating foods you don’t like because you think it’s healthy, it’s not actually doing your body much good (it’s also unsustainable, we’re pleasure-seeking creatures). Eat food you enjoy, it’s a win-win.

One of my Christian friends made a Facebook post about how PP gave her tons of resources when she was trying to get pregnant and people were actually genuinely shocked that they provided such resources; they had fully bought into the idea that PP is just an “abortion factory”. The misinformation that’s been spread about PP is unreal.

I wanted to share a picture of Ranger. If he is out for a walk with his owners and I drive by, I have to pull over so he can say hi. If he is walking and sees my truck parked on the side of the road or in front of a business, he cries and insists on coming to my truck and waiting to see me. The cool thing is that I have never given him a treat (I quit carrying them a few years back because it became a problem.) so he truly just likes to visit. I was hoping to get a picture of him sitting next to me nicely but he wouldn’t quit licking me so this is the picture that I got. Thank you Kathy
