We had an interesting discussion in our algebra department yesterday, about this innocuous-looking equation. I suggest you don’t try it, unless you’re equally happy with negative integer solutions or know something about elliptic curves!

As it turns out, the smallest positive integer solution has 80-digit numbers! Hence you won’t find these using brute-force computer searches without some insight on elliptic curves. If you want to read more about the mathematics behind this equation, read this delightful post on Quora by Alon Amit.

I think the feeling that I get from watching The Expanse is that it’s a show about Belters made by Earthers.

After reading the books, the space scenes while good and all just aren’t as convincing and immersive as I need them to be.

Off the head examples include:

Lol, those crash couches are cute

Where are the belter arm gestures?

You don't move like normal when on the float. Magboots don't suddenly mean you walk like you're under gravity. They also seem overused? Especially by Belters.

I supppose this is just the reality of television though.
