Four years have passed since Russian ground troops invaded Ukraine, fully engaging in a war they had begun in 2014 annexing Crimea and the Donbass regions. The UN just published a report stating there have been over 15k Ukrainian civilian deaths. CSIS recently estimated the number of Ukrainian army deaths at 140k, and a total casualty count of 600k; the Russian army has had 325k deaths and a total casualty count of 1.2 million. Every night, Russia flies drones into Ukrainian cities to drop explosives and crash into buildings, destroying homes and crucial utilities and infrastructure.
Ukrainians are going to outlast Putin and his war. Putin's an opportunist and a hollow strongman who won't stop until he's forced to. And there are a lot of people, Ukrainians and their allies, who are working to make sure that happens, and that there are resources to rebuild Ukraine after.
For now, we're in it for the long haul. If you want to help out, here are some opportunities.
Civilian Aid:
Insulate Ukraine - A lot of people's windows have gotten broken from the drones and missiles, and it's winter, and energy infrastructure is a major target. Insulate Ukraine has developed an innovative and affordable solution to the urgent need for warmth: a $20 triple-layer shatterproof window made from polyethylene. The organization helps those most in need: low-income families, the elderly, and disabled.
Razom - A very well-known organization that I regularly donate to. Razom initiates short and long-term projects, or collaborates on existing projects with partner organizations, which help Ukraine stay on the path of fostering democracy and prosperity. They just published their annual impact report. I personally believe that strong institutions are overwhelmingly critical in ensuring that people don't fall through the cracks and that predatory organizations don't take advantage of power vacuums, and Ukraine will need to rebuilt its capacity to have a society once the war ends, along with delivering immediate medical and tactical items now.
Safe Passage for Ukraine - Assists people in gaining safe passage in, around, and out of Ukraine. This war has turned millions of people into refugees both inside of and outside of their country. Many of them have complex medical needs. Safe Passage ensures transportation, lodging, and other needs as they leave for safety.
Liberty Ukraine - Direct donation to Ukraine projects; currently quadcopters, evacuation vehicles, generators, children's hospital renovations, thermal clothing production, therapy camp for children of killed soldiers. *This org has no salaried employees and 100% of funds go to projects
Global Response Medicine - GRM travels anywhere in the world providing emergency medical care for people displaced by conflict or disaster.
Dignitas - Dignitas has several initiatives supporting Ukrainian fighting and post-war development. They currently are focused a lot on raising money to build drones, which are highly needed for surveillance to find out where civilians and injured combatants may be. They are also working on counter-Shahed-drone efforts.
Brno pro Ukrajinu - Collects medical and other equipment and crafts masking nets.
Military Aid
(if you balk at supporting the military, this is a defensive force fending off an invasion without sufficient resources and reliant on a great number of volunteers. Like I get it but this isn't the military-industrial complex, this is bare-bones survival and trying to keep Russian soldiers off Ukrainian streets. Okay I'll get off my soapbox. Please consider supporting.)
Dzyga's Paw - A well-known charity that buys Starlinks, drones, and de-mining equipment for front-line defenders.
PDMSh - For a decade, The Pirogov First Volunteer Mobile Hospital (PDMSh) volunteers have been rescuing and treating wounded on the front lines. Hundreds of PDMSh volunteer medics have cared for and saved thousands of military and civilian lives.
Osprey Relief Foundation - A US veteran-led, global disaster relief, and medical & humanitarian aid non-profit organization. Their mobile "Train the Trainer" course is focused on Search and Rescue operations and lifesaving capabilities in support of civilians on the battlefield.
Ukraine Front Line - Raises money for lifesaving aid on the front lines, based on troops' stated immediate needs and fulfilling requests.
Protect a Volunteer - A program that matches soldiers and other volunteers with donors to assist with flight costs, life saving gear, medical kits, cold weather clothing, and other expenses. Individuals or a group of people together can sponsor or “adopt” soldiers/volunteers.
Prevail Together - They do the very importnat work of bomb disposal. They also do trauma care and humanitarian aid.
Lastly, if you don't have money but do have time, consider volunteering with ENGin, which matches English speakers up with Ukrainian partners to practice English, learn more about each other's cultures, build connections, and have conversations. It's an hour a week, and you don't have to have any teaching experience.
Thank you to everyone who has helped Ukraine in any way over the past four years, and over the past twelve years since Russia began their invasion. Every little bit helps.
Do/did you personally know 3 or more sets of twins?
(You don't really have to be friends with them now, just at any point in your life, did you know them/interact with them in some capacity. They don't have to be identical. Idk if we want to count triplets/quadruplets/etc. in here, ig we can. Lol sorry).
Do/did you personally know 3 or more sets of twins?

things designed to become more beautiful with wear>>>>
bronze. denim. tussar silk. thick leather. friendship. mahagony. rosewood. cast iron skillets. walnut. antique rifles. muscles. diaries. memory foam. mortars and pestles.
most buildings with copper roofs, sills, details, etc that have that beautiful green patina (which is called verdigris) are designed with that colour in mind--which is to say that the building and the design is not really finished until the whole project ages into itself and tarnishes to green.
how wonderful to rely on the beauty that comes with age!
she's just a fictional character to YOU. i know her personally though
Trapped between being militantly pro-choice and deeply concerned about the erosion of abortion rights and thinking the way that people talk about pregnancy/motherhood/children on this hellsite is pretty gross and borderline misogynistic.
To expand on this a bit more, at the risk of sounding like That Guy, a lot of people on here don't seem to realize the right to choose to have children has been something that's been forcibly taken away from people as well. I live in an area with a pretty large Native population, a group that has, historically and even to this day, been subject to forced sterilization. They're not the only ones, either. Other ethnic minorities, disabled people, etc have all been subject to eugenics and had their reproductive rights undermined in the other direction to promote what dominant society considers a """pure""" population. Even a lot of the modern anti-abortion movement still disproportionally favors making more white people above all else. Saying that not having children is always the right choice and that keeping a child is always the bad, regressive choice, frankly, comes from a position of privilege. Like everything else, it depends.
Pro-choice goes both ways, and everyone should have the right and medical support behind whatever option they choose without discrimination. Simple as.
And can we please stop this over-the-top disgust over the bodies of pregnant people please please please y'all are so happy to defend all sorts of disabilities but then dissolve into a misogynistic froth when pregnancy comes up
