minho has never been good with words.
it’s a fact he’s had to accept throughout his entire life. sentences spew past his lips before he has time to process what he's saying and his mouth won’t form the intended words clawing at the back of his throat. his attempts at conveying emotions fall flat due to his dry tone of voice, the only noticeable tells articulated by his ever-changing demeanor.
it must be ironic that he considers himself an extrovert.
or maybe it isn’t, because although minho may not be able to express himself verbally in his native korean, he is fluent in the universal language of love through touch (as if his obsession of slapping his friends’ butts wasn’t proof enough). and now that you’re in his life, it has become one of his primary means of communication.
“i love you” is one of the phrases minho will never have trouble saying. not when the simple brush of the back of his hand with yours hints at his affection for you before starting dating. not when he clasps your hand with his to carefully guide you through a crowded area, occasionally looking back to ensure you’re okay and always to be met with a smile that melts his heart.
he expresses it in the way he ruffles your hair when he stands behind your seated form on the couch, laughing as he defends himself against your playful swats. minho remains tied to you, playing with your fingers under the restaurant table when on a group date with your mutual friends.
careful love as his hand presses against the small of your back, letting you walk slightly in front of him on the sidewalk at night, making sure you’re always in his line of sight.
passionate love as he pushes you against the bedroom door, the grip on your hips tightening when your mouth detaches from his and trails down to his neck. he radiates it through the act of intertwining his fingers with yours by your head as he pants into your ear, pressing a sloppy kiss to your temple, a silent thank you for vulnerability you’ve never hesitated to unveil for him.
unconditional love when he pulls you in for a firm embrace after one of the worst arguments the two of you have ever had in your relationship. his thumbs wipe your tears away, an unspoken apology for making you cry.
it’s the love minho knows will be there when he wakes up in the morning as he stretches his hand out towards the middle of the bed, close to where your half-asleep figure peacefully lays.
it’s the love he knows is reciprocated, for you speak the language of love too.
minho hears it, sees it, in the way you took his shy hand in yours, intertwining them together with a beam on your face at the way his face flushed from your confident action, and it’s the way your fingertips dig into his shoulders, kneading away the tense muscles after a stressful day.
you make his annoyance at the world disappear when your fingers card through his wet hair, creating spiky towers pointing in every direction that he can’t help but laugh at himself at how ridiculous he looks (yet never smooths them back down unless you do it for him).
it’s your careful love too, existing in the lip tint you applied on him transferring onto your lips as you tilt his head and pull him in for a sweet kiss. it’s worth the smudged kiss stains adorning his face when he sees you admiring your work, squishing his cheeks together because he’s just “so cute.”
you love every extension of him, including his cats that yowl and parade around your feet until you give them all equivalent attention with gentle pets.
love is imbued in your touch, even when you’re half-asleep, yet still reach out to meet his open palm to loosely interlace your fingers.
no, “i love you” is one of the phrases minho will never have trouble saying. not if it’s with you.

note hiii everybody!! sorry i disappeared for a bit but ive been busy with uni TT i got an 85 on my recent assignment tho so everybody cheer… anyway ive been obsessed with piwon lately hence this post but fear not i have an enha version coming soon
keeho
confident but humble. he doesn’t have any expectations for your relationship but hopes that you’ll eventually catch on to his borderline obnoxious flirting, and better yet, reciprocate. if you do happen to return his feelings, he doesn’t waste any time in asking you out properly, because why wait? his friends say he laughs too loud around you for you to not know about his feelings, but he swears that they’re just being dramatic… he’s so normal and chill about you, really, that joke about the refrigerator or something was just funny!
taeyang
an absolute menace. you end up assuming that he hates you with how he stares you down whenever you enter his vicinity and with how he exchanges hushed whispers with his friends from across the room, silenced only when he turns his head far away enough to steal glances at you. eventually, once he asks for your number under the guise of it apparently being weird that you were the only two between your mutual friend groups to not have exchanged numbers, he plays into this idea, hoping he can pull off some sort of enemies to lovers trope, because it always works in books, right? in truth, he’s just a little bit apprehensive about the vulnerability that comes with liking someone, and tries to preserve his pride with thinly veiled insults that upon second glance quickly fall apart. can you melt his icy cold heart? (the answer is yes.)
jiung
likes you from the very beginning, but is a strong believer in the idea that lovers should be friends first, so he tries his best to establish a genuine relationship with you before he even begins to think about making any moves. he shows strong initiative even throughout your friendship–whether it’s invitations to meet up for lunch, to see that movie you’ve been eagerly waiting the release of, or even paying for your coffee every single time, he’s quick to assure you and dispels any worries you might have about repaying him with a wave of his hand and a bright smile–your company is enough, he says, and if you end up falling for him (who wouldn’t?) he, of course, eagerly awaits the day he can take you for an actual date, but enjoys every moment he spends with you until then just as much.
intak
by far the most shameless with his affection. he can’t help it–you have him hopelessly whipped from the very beginning and he’s terrible at hiding it anyway, so why not lean into it? the first to jump up from his seat when you mention being thirsty–water or juice? and the first to compliment you regardless of the circumstances of your meeting, even on those days you can’t manage anything but a sweater pulled hastily over your shoulders and a messy updo. it’s impossible not to feel flattered around him, and he’s honestly not even actively trying to flatter you, he’s just being wholly honest. if you ever want to shut him up, just compliment him back–hopefully you have a stretcher on hand!
shota
the cutest ever. you catch him staring at you more than a few times before he eventually works up the nerve to approach you, and initially you’re intimidated–but the moment he opens his mouth you know that he’s harmless, and obscenely adorable to beat. he’s not the greatest at expressing himself with words, so he makes sure to show that he likes you by sending you things that remind him of you–songs from an artist he likes, those little figures you collect he sees in the window of a store on the way to work, a rainbow in the sky after a rainy morning. sometimes he provides some commentary, or a cute emoticon, and other times he says nothing, sending only a simple picture and hoping that you can feel even just some of the many emotions that rush through him at the thought of you and have his heart fluttering in his chest when you eventually reply.
jongseob
the sweetest of angels. he doesn’t crush often, but when he does, he crushes hard, so he doesn’t want to mess it up. though he’s rather reserved on the flirting front, he makes sure to send good morning and good night texts every day, without fail, on top of the seemingly random yet innocuous questions he asks throughout the day–what did you eat for lunch? how was work? any thoughts on this new album that just came out? part of it is in hopes that eventually you’ll fall for him as he did you, but he does also take genuine interest in you as a person and wants to know everything about you there is to know if you’ll just give him the chance. flirt with him at all and you’ll very quickly have him turning into a giggling, indecipherably stammering mess.
Hwang Hyunjin x gn reader, 527 words, very dialogue heavy. no major warnings. right person, wrong time but not really…
a/n: I’ve been listening to anything by somoh and love story by p1harmony for the last five days and I’m going insane cause Hyunjin is the embodiment of p1h’s love story— please give it a listen
The quietness surrounding you two became increasingly apparent. It drove you insane: the constant tips and taps of the sink he promised he’d fix, and the low buzzing of the electrical wires hiding behind the walls.
“Blink or something.” He mutters. He hated it just as much as you did. The silence gave way to every thought pushed down when he was with you, flooding his mind with every thought of you. “Anything— do literally anything.”
You slap his hands away when he reaches across the counter, fingers turning red from the impact. “Shit– sorry.”
Hyunjin sighs. There’s no anger, no disappointment, nothing. “What’s on your mind?” You shrug in response, then look around the kitchen for anything that would make noise.
You settle for shaking the salt canister around. “I don’t know how I should act around you now.” He looks down, rubbing his face in what you could only assume was irritation. (He told you not to worry about it.) “It’s not that I’m awkward around you, not one bit.”
“Then?” He draws out the word, gesturing with one hand for you to continue.
“I’m scared.” You admit, glancing at him to see his reaction; he only blinks. “Because I feel the same way about you, I always have, and I think you’ve always known.”
“But we’ve never said anything till now, and it’s just so overwhelming I don’t know what to do with myself…or you!”
Hyunjin remains quiet, and you hate it. He’s starting to think he only hated the quiet because you did. It gave him more time to think, but you were the only thing on his mind every time. “Hyunjin, say something.”
“I’ve never experienced love before, you know that.” You nod slowly. Despite being the hopeless romantic he is, he’d never let anyone in his heart out of fear. “When I started falling for you, I thought I was gonna burst from keeping all those feelings from you. Every time I saw you, I wanted so badly to tell you how much I loved you.”
“But I was afraid. I was afraid you would hate me, you’d leave, and I’d be alone again.” Your hands slide into his gently, a stark contrast from before. “Probably just as scared as you are right now.” His hands clasp around yours, thumbs softly rubbing over every wrinkle and bump on your fingers. “And I know this is a hard thing to get used to, trust me.”
“I can’t.” Hyunjin pauses his thoughts, and his eyes soften at your words; he’s hurt. Something you said hurt him. “I want to. I want to, I really do. But hyunjin–”
“I’ll always wait for you, Y/n.” He interjects before you can finish the thought that is sure to tear both of you apart. “No matter how long it takes, nothing could ever make me stop loving you.”
Hyunjin wished the conversation would’ve ended in an exchange of words he always hoped to hear from you, but he’s back to square one. He’ll hesitate with his words again and bite his tongue when he gets that insatiable feeling of wanting to tell you he loves you.

nobody thought jeongin would be the next one to get married, but alas, here you are, at the reception of your friend's wedding, nursing a glass of champagne.
"come on," minho says, snatching the glass away from you and finishing the rest of it in one gulp, before he takes you by the hand and tugs you forward. "let’s go dance."
you can't even be annoyed that he basically just stole your drink. instead, you just laugh, and let the love of your life drag you to the dance floor.
he guides you to move in a slow rhythm, matching the tempo of the song that's playing in the background. it's a song that you would usually think is overrated and has been played to hell and back, but in the moment, drunk on the cozy atmosphere, you think it's nice. you briefly wonder what song you would choose for your first dance at your own wedding.
it's just a fleeting thought. you've been having those all day.
jeongin's wedding was beautiful. everything was done to perfection, and you have no doubt that most of it was overseen by his girlfriend.
nope, correction: she's his wife now.
nevertheless, you've been imagining yourself and minho in a similar setting. you in a stunning white dress. him, dashing in a classy suit. the two of you exchanging vows with teary eyes in front of your friends and families. the cats as ring bearers. sealing forever with a deep kiss and fond smiles.
as you continue to sway along to the music, you wrap your arms around minho's neck and pull him closer. there's something in the way that he's been treating you all day that makes you melt even more than it usually does. he's been more touchy; there's not a single moment where his hands aren't on your body in any way, whether it be a hand on your knee, on the small of your back, or an arm around your waist. minho isn't often overt with his affection like that; he tends to dote on you in the privacy of your own loving bubble, away from anyone and everyone.
then, there's the softness that he's looking at you with in his chocolate brown eyes. it's warm, saccharine; it makes you feel like you two are the only people left in the room even though this is supposed to be someone else's big day.
"i love you," he says suddenly, brushing his nose against yours before leaning in just a tad closer to your lips, "you mean the world to me."
it's rare for minho to say things like this out of the blue. he's a man of few words after all.
he's full of surprises today, it seems.
"what's the occasion?" you ask with a coy smile.
"no occasion. just wanted to tell you that."
you close the distance, pressing your lips against his as his arms wrap themselves tighter around your body. "i love you too," you smile against him.
he mirrors your smile, and kisses you deeper. he's so sweet today, so openly loving with you even as your friends around you watch on.
you have an inkling that maybe, just maybe, he's been thinking the same things as you.
you stay in each other's arms until the song ends, then another one, then a couple more, just basking in soothing glow of love that's covering the air tonight. minutes pass with kisses shared, until it's finally time for the bouquet toss.
minho reluctantly lets you leave his side for the first time since the morning. his eyes follow you as you move to the front of the room, standing a comfortable distance away from the bride. you've never really been interested in this kind of things anyway; you're just doing it for the sake of participation.
everyone else is engrossed in what's about to happen, their eyes fixed on the bride and the peonies in her hands, but minho is only focused on you. you, who's trying to blend in with the group of people and undoubtedly praying that the bouquet doesn't make its way into your hands. you, whom he thinks looks so beautiful, all dolled up for the special occasion. you, who made his heart stutter when you walked into the room in your pretty dress and flashed him a bashful smile. (but who is he kidding? you make his heart want to give out and run away every single morning when he wakes up and sees you peacefully sleeping in his arms.)
just you. always only you.
you, you, you.
you don't hang in the moon in the sky. you are the moon, you are the stars.
minho watches you watch the bride as she counts down from 3, then flings the bouquet up in the air while everyone waits with bated breath. it's a mess of flailing arms from what he can tell, a couple of the bridesmaids practically fighting each other to try and grab the damn thing.
you try to make yourself smaller, to duck lower so that the others could have the honor instead of you. but when the flowers come hurling toward you, you have no choice but to raise your hands and catch it, lest you want to be lobbed in the face with a bouquet of peonies.
some of the people around you sigh frustratedly, but most of the guys around minho suddenly burst into loud cheers. they clap him on the back and shake him by the shoulders but still, he remains transfixed on you and your adorable wide-eyed expression. your parted lips and doe eyes blinking fast as a rosy flush creeps up your skin.
your eyes find him in an instant, and you both just stare at each other for a moment. he reckons that you're trying to gauge his reaction, because the room is now filled with excited squeals of congratulations and half-hearted jokes of how you and minho are going to be the next ones to get hitched.
you look uncertain, still frozen in place with your hands clutching the peonies.
but then he just smiles, and it makes you smile too, your body immediately relaxing as you give him a wave using the bouquet, your shoulders slumping slightly when you release a sigh.
to minho, it doesn't matter whether you caught the flowers or not; neither of you believes in that kind of stuff anyway. it doesn't matter because he's always known that he was going to marry you, that there's no one else he would rather spend the rest of his life with.
it doesn't matter because unbeknownst to you, he's already got a velvet box hidden somewhere in your shared home, with a gorgeous diamond ring inside just waiting for the day it can be put on your finger.

Summary: Seungmin’s been watching you from an arm’s length for so long, his heart yearning to be closer to you. All he wants is to to hold you, to be held by you. Why can’t you just look up and notice how much he loves you? Why do you stay with your horribly toxic boyfriend when Seungmin’s right there?
Author’s note: Please listen to this song and picture Seungmin singing it, oh god it destroys me.
Warning!!! The reader has a pretty toxic boyfriend in this fic!!
————————————————————————
How are you this perfect? How can you go day to day being so flawless and not even realize just how breathtaking you are?
After being best friends for years, there isn’t a single hour of the day that Seungmin hasn’t seen you at, and never once have you been anything but amazing. Even when your hair is frizzy and tied up, face puffy from sleep, eyes bleary and asymmetrical, you’re still gorgeous.
Just the thought of you alone has Kim Seungmin weak in the knees. Every little quirk of yours drives him crazy. From the way you stick your tongue out when you concentrate to the way you always overcook your rice.
He craves the simple, sweet, delightful smell of your apartment. The way your TV is always on even if you’re not watching it. The way every room in the house is spotless except for your bedroom which goes from organized to a disaster in just a few short days.
Seungmin can never get enough of you. Never has been able to, and he never will.
Which is why it hurts so bad that you’re with someone else. You and your boyfriend have been together for four months. Four painful, excruciating months.
The guy doesn’t even understand how good he has it. He does t grasp how lucky he is to have captured your heart.
What is Seungmin supposed to do when he comes over for movie night and that jackass is sitting on the couch next to you? His stomach flips and churns uncontrollably until he makes up some lame excuse to leave early.
Your boyfriend doesn’t even treat you the way you deserve and it boils Seungmin’s blood.
Right before his very eyes, he watches as your chump of a boyfriend drops your hand when you tried to hold it during a big group dinner. Seungmin had been sitting directly across from the two of you at the large table full of a mixed bag of friends.
Innocently, and with the most adorable smile ever, you reached down and laced your fingers with your boyfriends. As if you burned him, he drops your hand and motions down to his food.
“How am I supposed to eat if you’re holding my hand?” he asks with an annoyed tilt to his tone.
“Oh,” you frown, that gorgeous smile of yours was wiped off your face. “Sorry, hon.”
“It’s whatever,” he replies and goes back to the conversation that he was in beforehand.
Meanwhile Seungmin was seething. He watched the entire interaction like some sort of car accident. Does the guy need two hands to eat? What kind of lame excuse was that?
The rest of the night, your mood was different. Your smile didn’t reach your eyes. And your laughter sounded fake and hollow.
No one seemed to notice.
No one except for Seungmin who took it upon himself to go up to the bar and order your favorite drink on his way to the bathroom. He told the waiter not to say anything about him being the one to order it.
It was already in front of you when he returned from the restroom.
“Look, Minnie!” you chirp while he’a sitting down. “The bartender said they made an extra by accident and gave us this drink on the house!”
A rainbow stretches over his heart at how happy you sound. But dark clouds come crashing through just as quickly.
Your boyfriend look down at the drink as you were about to take your first sip.
“Hey!” he calls out and places his hand over the top of the drink before you could even taste it. “You’re the one driving home.”
Your expression fell. “What? But you said you would drive home this time.” You look around the table and lower your voice to keep it between the two of you. “I’ve driven home every time we’ve gone out, I never get to—“
Your boyfriend slides the drink away from in front of you at the same time he kisses your lips gently. You don’t respond to the kiss at all, you don’t even close your eyes. “Thanks, babe. You’re the best.”
He leans away from you and picks the drink up, taking a sip from the straw. His face twists up in a disgusted expression.
“Fuck, what even is this?” he asks, looking down at the drink.
“It’s a Long Island…” you murmur, looking down at the table.
“Who drinks this shit?” He places it down on the table and pushes it away from him.
You do. It’s your favorite drink. You always order a Long Island no matter where you go. How does the guy not know that? What boyfriend doesn’t know his girlfriend’s favorite drink?
What kind of shit head does that?
Seungmin is seeing red. He wants to vault the table and throttle the guy. His shoulders are shaking he’s so angry.
Your demeanor drops even further through the floor, taking Seungmin’s heart with you. No matter what conversation anyone tries to pull you into, you only offer one word answers.
Your boyfriend barely pays any mind to you.
Seungmin nudges your ankle underneath the table. You look up at him with dull eyes. He motions for a writing utensil in the air.
You think for a moment, turning and fishing through your purse until you pull out a pen and hand it to him.
He flips the paper placemat over on the table and draws a tic-tac-toe board on the back. He draws one ‘X’ in a box and then slides it across the table at you.
When you look down, the corner of your lip quirks in a tiny smile. You take the pen and draw an ‘O’ in another box, then slide it back to him.
This continues a few times before the game comes out to a tie.
Wordlessly, he meets your eyes with a cocked eyebrow. You nod. He draws another board and you do it again.
With each X and O that’s drawn on the back of the paper placemat, life returns to your eyes. You even let out a few giggles when Seungmin makes a ridiculously terrible move.
Each and every game comes out in a tie until you make a specific, unbeatable move. Seungmin looks down at the board for a few drawn out seconds.
He bites his lip with a grin. “There’s no move I can do that you won’t win.”
“I know!” you cheer and laugh. “I mastered the technique.”
“You didn’t master shit,” he grumbles in fake annoyance. “You cheated.”
Balking, you gasp. “I never cheat, Kim Seungmin.”
“Well, you just cheated at tic-tac-toe so you’re also a liar.”
“I didn’t cheat!
“Did so.”
“Did n—“ You’re cut off by a hand on your arm.
“We’re going.” Your boyfriend’s voice is gruff, slurred, and a bit agitated.
For what seems like the hundredth time tonight, your face falls when you look at him. “What do you mean? We just finished dinner and I thought that we’re going to the karaoke bar after this.”
“Not anymore.” He grabs your jacket off the back of your chair. “Come on, get your purse, we’re going.”
“But—“
“We’re going.”
Your body tenses and your mouth flies shut.
By the flush that crawls up your neck, Seungmin can tell you’re embarrassed. Embarrassed that you would let someone speak to you this way. Embarrassed because now most of your friends were watching you both closely.
You’ve always hated confrontation.
You take a deep breath and push back from the table, seemingly giving up. Seungmin has had enough.
“I think she wants to stay,” Seungmin says from across the table. “Can’t you call an Uber or have someone else take you home?”
Your boyfriend’s eyes flash with anger. “Hey, why don’t you stay out of our business?”
Seungmin’s nose twitches, he’s gripping the pen in his hand so hard it might snap in half.
“I just think that you’re ignoring the fact that she doesn’t want to leave.”
You look over at Seungmin. “It’s okay, Minnie. I’ll go out another time, promise.”
His gaze softens when you call his name.
“Yeah, Minnie, she’ll go out another time.” Your slime of a significant other slides his arm around your waist and pulls you away from the table.
You only fight his pull for a moment, glaring at the side of your boyfriend’s face before looking over at Seungmin one last time.
You’re apologizing with your eyes. Seungmin can read you too well. The two of you never needed words to communicate.
Then, you’re gone. And everyone else around him continues to talk as if nothing happened.
Seungmin flexes his jaw while he fights back his anger. A small part of him wants to run after the two of you and deck your boyfriend in the parking lot.
But, it’s not worth it. Who knows how you’d react to that.
He looks down at the paper placemat and draws your final ‘O’, drawing the line across to signify your win.
Seungmin doesn’t go to the karaoke bar that night either.
____________________________________
It was the next night when you texted him.
[January 10 1:26 AM]
Y/N: Are you awake?
Seungmin was about three seconds from sleep when his phone buzzed. Normally, he would ignore it and answer in the morning, but something in his brain told him to roll over and check anyway.
His eyes widened at your text, his thumbs flying to answer you.
Seungmin: I am, what’s up?
Y/N: Can you come over?
This late? You’re asking him to come over now? Sure, it’s a Saturday but it’s still strange.
Y/N: Please. I need you here.
Seungmin: I’ll be there in 10
He only took seven minutes to get to your apartment. The other three were spent jogging through the parking lot and up the stairs to your floor.
Only one knock lands on the door before you rip it open.
Seungmin’s heart falls through his chest.
You’re looking up at him with red rimmed, glassy eyes. Tears flowing down your flushed cheeks.
“Hi, Minnie,” you choke out.
Seungmin steps inside and looks all over your body, trying to find any sign of an injury or anything. “What’s going on?” he asks in alarm.
He cups your cheeks and looks in your eyes after kicking the door shut. “Are you hurt?”
“No,” you cry. “‘M sorry if I scared you.” Another sob wracks your chest. You throw your arms around Seungmin, burying your face into his chest. His own arms immediately fly around your body.
“I broke up with him,” you mumble into Seungmin’s hoodie.
It’s shameful how his spirits lifted. Internally, Seungmin wants to pump his fist in the air and jump around. He wants to stand on your balcony and scream victory at the top of his lungs.
But externally, he keeps his cool, one hand moving to rub your back in soothing circles.
Fucking finally.
“What happened?” he asks gently, resting his chin on the top of your head.
You force a dry laugh. “It’s been coming for a while, I couldn’t fucking stand the way he talked to me last night.”
Seungmin laughs under his breath. Yeah, yeah he saw it. He wasn’t the only one that wondered why the hell you were still with the guy.
“He always talked to me like trust. I just…” You sniff and bury your face further into Seungmin’s hoodie. “I think I just liked having someone, you know?”
Seungmin’s heart clenches.
“It was nice having someone who at least pretended to like me like that.”
Do you not see him? Do you not see the way he looks at you whenever you walk into a room? How his entire demeanor perks up by your very presence?
If he had a tail, it would wag whenever you blessed him with your presence.
You let out another sob and hold him closer. “God, why am I crying so much?”
Seungmin grabs both of your upper arms and rubs up and down a few times. “Here,” he says gently. “Why don’t you sit on the couch and I’ll make you some tea, okay?”
Nodding, you pull away from him and wipe at your cheeks with your sweater sleeves. “Yeah, okay.”
He reaches out and uses his own sweatshirt sleeve to wipe at your cheeks with great care. “I’ll only be a few seconds, okay?”
Again, you nod. But your body makes no move away from him. You lean into his gentle touch, craving the closeness of it all. Eyes sliding close, your lip quivers with more cries.
His fingers poke out from the sleeve and run down your tear-stained cheek. His hands are always so warm.
It could be the dead of winter or the middle of summer, his hands were always warmer than yours. But even an ice sculpture’s body held more heat than yours did.
On several occasions, you would shove your hands into Seungmin’s pockets to thaw your frozen digits.
He can still remember last winter where you unzipped his huge, puffy jacket and then zipped it back up with you inside of it, your back to his chest. Seungmin can’t remember a time where his heart was beating faster than that day.
He had warmed you right back up, gladly sharing his body heat to keep you toasty warm. He even went as far as wrapping his scarf around both of you.
The bus came late that night to pick the two of you up from that stop and he was grateful for every single second he got to spend wrapped around you.
You’ve always been his soft spot.
Seungmin cups your cheeks with both hands, thumbs swiping away the tears that keep falling. Your tongue pokes from your lips and then you bring your bottom lip between your teeth.
“Tea will make you better,” he whispers. Seungmin leans forward and presses his lips to your forehead.
The happy sigh that you let out doesn’t escape his notice. It was a sigh that was reserved for when you were relaxing after being tense for so long.
He’s heard it after you’ve kicked your shoes off after a long work day. After the first bite of a hot dinner. After curling up in a cozy blanket on Friday night.
And now when his lips meet your skin.
It wraps around his heart and squeezes even tighter.
He pulls away first and nudges you backwards a bit. “Go sit down.”
“Okay,” you answer with a whisper, turning and making your way to the couch while he moves into the kitchen.
He meanders around like it’s second nature, there’s not a single dish in your kitchen that he doesn’t know where it is.
There’s a pan full of cold food sitting on top of the stove. It looks like it was never served.
So, you haven’t even eaten.
Seungmin clicks the burner on to reheat the food while he switches the electric kettle on.
When he comes in with a full plate of food and hot tea, you’re on your phone with a scowl on your face.
“What is it?” He decides to be nosy.
“He’s texting me.” You don’t look up at Seungmin as he places everything on the coffee table in front of you.
“Don’t answer,” he says simply.
“I’m not. But he’s just…” you trail off. “Being so mean.”
Seungmin’s eyebrows furrow. “Show me.”
You only hesitate for a moment before showing him your phone.
[January 10 2:02 AM]
DON’T ANSWER: I’ll be here when you decide to stop being a bitch and remember you need me.
DON’T ANSWER: As if you could even do any better than me, did you think about that? Have you seen yourself and then looked at me?
DON’T ANSWER: You’re the one who said relationships are all about compromise and some shit. So why are you making all the fucking rules?
DON’T ANSWER: so now you’re not even going to answer??? You’re leaving me on read??
DON’T ANSWER: cunt
DON’T ANSWER: couldn’t even give good head, what good are you for anyway.
The rage Seungmin felt last night is nothing compared to what he feels right now. His hands are shaking with thinly veiled anger. His eyebrows are furrowed so much his face might start cramping.
He grabs your phone away from you and looks closer at the texts to make sure his eyes are seeing this right.
“Don’t say anything,” you say quickly.
“I won’t,” Seungmin replies angrily. His teeth might shatter from how hard he’s clenching his jaw.
Who the fuck says this to someone? Someone with a majorly bruised ego, that’s who.
He takes it upon himself to tap through your ex-boyfriend’s contact and block him. Your phone is thrown onto the coffee table soon after.
You don’t address it. You sip your tea and take an uneasy bite out of your food.
Seungmin’s leg starts bouncing on the floor. He’s never been a particularly angry guy, his emotions are always in check. Usually with situations that get him upset, he lets it roll off his shoulders.
But that’s when it’s about him. This is about you.
You, who finally stood up for yourself and you’re getting shit for it.
The sound of the plate and mug being placed on the coffee table hits his ears.
“Minnie,” you say gently, letting your hand slide up his arm. “I think you’re more upset about those texts than I am.”
Seungmin huffs and bites his lip. “How could he say that shit about you?”
“I wounded his fragile ego, that’s why,” you chuckle dryly.
Your touch is soothing. Like an ice pack on a burn.
“What happened?” he asks, looking over at you. “What happened between the two of you?”
You gulp and avoid his eyes. “After last night when we got home, I didn’t say a word to him, I didn’t have the energy for it. I dropped him off at his apartment and he got so mad that I didn’t stay the night.”
Your legs pull up under you, your hand drops from Seungmin’s arm to wrap around yourself. “He came over tonight since we usually have dinner on Saturdays together and just… everything went to shit before we ate. I told him how he spoke to me and acted yesterday was unacceptable and he just went off on me.”
You’re right, though. It was unacceptable. It was uncalled for, rude, toxic, disgusting, all the above.
“I said I was done. He blew up; spouting all this nonsense about how he’s the best I’ll ever have and blah blah blah.” You pause and let out another dry laugh of disbelief. “It’s funny cause he’s actually the worst. Even my dumb high school and college boyfriends were better than him.”
A small furl of jealousy bubbles in Seungmin’s gut, but he stamps it down.
“Why were you with him for so long, Y/N?” The questions comes out of his mouth before he could stop it. You stayed with the guy for four months, about to hit five.
You swallow thickly. “Loneliness?” You shrug and fiddle with your hands in your lap. “I… I liked the way he looked at me in the beginning I guess. It made me feel wanted.”
How was he looking at you any differently than Seungmin was? He stares at you every single day with his big puppy dog eyes just waiting for you to look up!
Just look up!
“I was…” Again, you hesitate, trailing off and biting your lip nervously. “I was trying to get over someone else truth be told. After pining for so long I couldn’t take the one sidedness of it.”
Seungmin feels his heart crack. God, how much more of this can he take? Even before all of this, someone else had your heart?
“So, it’s like I’m back to square one again.” You run your fingers through your already messy hair.
“You still have feelings for this person?”
“Yeah.” You look around the room and then directly at Seungmin. “They never went away. Maybe that’s why I’m so upset. Not because of my ex but because I have to go back to yearning for him to just look up and see how much I like him.”
He’s trying so hard to be a good friend, he really is. His happiness at your freedom was so short lived. He got, what? Twenty minutes? Twenty minutes of hope.
But he needs to be supportive.
“Y/N.” His voice cracks when he says your name. “You’re… amazing and beautiful and intelligent. I’m sure whoever has your heart would bend over backwards for an opportunity to be with you.”
Your eyes sparkle when he speaks.
Fuck, stop making this harder than it already has to be, please.
“You think so?”
“I know so. If it’s a guy, you just gotta be direct. Look him right in the eye and say ‘I have feelings for you’”
You tongue your cheek and think about something for a long five seconds before speaking up again. You stare at Seungmin directly in the eye and speak.
“I have feelings for you.”
“Yeah, just like that. See? It’s easy.”
“I have feelings for you,” you repeat with a little more feeling. He can’t look at you anymore. It hurts too much.
Seungmin’s head hangs down a bit, hair falling in front of his eyes. “Yeah, Y/N. You got the hang of it.”
“No, Seungmin.” You crawl closer to him on the couch until you’re kneeling directly next to him. You take his face in both of your hands. “I have feelings for you.”
What?
Is the world still turning? Is he awake? Is he interpreting this right? Are you still practicing?
“Huh?” Smooth, Kim, smooth.
“Seungmin, I have feelings for you. I have for so long and I was so scared of losing you as a friend so I didn’t say anything.”
His brain is malfunctioning. His heart surely is going to explode from the fluctuations in his heart rate.
Him? You had feelings for him this whole time? Is he breathing?
“It just seemed like you didn’t feel the same, so I kept it to myself and tried to move on. I’m sorry if this makes things awkward between us.”
“Me?” The word is hoarse when it comes out.
“Yes, you.”
“You have feelings for me?”
“Yes, Seungmin.”
“Oh my god.”
He says it under his breath as his body acts on its own. He grabs your face the same way you’re holding his and smashes your lips together.
It feels so right. Your lips are so soft against his, he could cry. They’re everything he dreamed they would be and more. No amount of daydreaming compares to how it feels to finally kiss you.
His bottom lip slots between both of yours while his hands slide all over your body. They start on your face just for one to thread in your hair while the other comes down to your waist.
Your mouths open and close like mirror images of one another, lips sliding over each other. Your own fingers slide into his hair while the other caresses his jawline as it moves.
He could die right now and he would be happy. Anyone could tell him anything and it would be okay.
Seungmin would give you the world if you asked him to. He’s absolutely on cloud nine, his head in space.
Small hums and groans come from both of your throats the longer your mouths slide over one another. He’s never felt more alive, more awake than he does right now.
He can barely feel his legs.
Seungmin didn’t even realize how much he was leaning into you until you lose your balance and fall back on the couch, his body quickly coming up to hover over yours.
Your lips don’t stay separated for long at all.
When they meet again, your tongue slides along his lips and Seungmin swears he hears angels singing. You taste like tea and happiness.
Your tongues tango for a while. His chest flush against yours. Can you feel his heart hammering against his rib cage? Can you taste the years of desperation on his lips?
All this time he thought you were just ships passing in the night.
“I’ve loved you for so long, Y/N,” he murmurs into your mouth. You suck on his bottom lip and a shiver races up Seungmin’s spine. “You’re the one that needed to look up, idiot.”
Pulling back, you stare up at him like he hung the moon.
“Do you mean it?” Your fingers trail over his face, tracing the soft lines of his features. When they run over his lips, he purses and kisses the pads.
“Every word.” He grabs your hand and holds it to his cheek. “These past few months have been torture, Y/N. I’ve been waiting for so long for you to see me like I see you.”
You gulp and stare deeply into those big, brown puppy dog eyes. “I can’t believe it. This is real, right?”
With a laugh, Seungmin pinches your side with his free hand. You yelp and giggle.
“I should ask you to pinch me.”
You grin wider.
His eyes fall to your lips. Seungmin is only able to control himself for another three seconds before he dips down and captures them with his own once more.
Your smile doesn’t fade even as you wrap your arms around his neck. It’s so contagious that his own grin blossoms against your sweet lips.
The long, heated kisses dissolve into delicate pecks since neither of you can control your happiness. Your lips are stretched too wide to properly interlock them.
The happiness shared between your hearts is overflowing. The dams that were holding back your feelings for years have finally burst.
No longer do you need to hang onto fleeting moments and cling to hoodies forgotten at your apartment.
You sigh. Your happy little sigh huffs out of your nose.
Seungmin’s heart sings with joy, it grows wings and flies from his chest and into orbit. You’re everything he ever needed.

... ♡ | seo changbin — snoring
“Bin…” a soft whisper of your roommate's name left your lips as you started repeatedly poking his right bicep with your index, both weak attempts at halting his eardrum shattering snoring right by your ear so you could pay attention to whatever the actors on screen were saying; though, all you received in response was a grunt and an even louder set of snores from the man laying halfway on top of you. You rolled your eyes, fully ready to scream at him, and glanced down at your shoulder, which was currently occupied by your barefaced, asleep roomie, whose chubby cheek was squished against you as the cutest pout in existence adorned his lips.
The adorable sight made you almost forget why you wanted to wake him up in the first place, instead cooing at him—until he slightly shifted in his sleep, causing you to feel a small, cold, damp spot on your pajama shirt. A grimace quickly wiped your smile away when you realized it was, without a doubt, his saliva. You whined, slightly shaking his broad shoulders, “Binnie-”
Nothing. Radio silence (aside from the snores, obviously). You took in a deep breath, and as you pushed him away with all of the force you had in store, his name left your mouth with a scream.
And well, that woke him up- “YAH! Are you crazy?! What happened?! Are you okay?! Wha-”
“You were snoring too loud—couldn’t hear anything.” you murmured, looking down at your fidgeting fingers as guilt washed over you. You knew he’d taken up some extra work at his office; work that made him work until late and wake up super early. And sure, his snores did piss you off, but you could’ve been more gentle, or simply-
“You could’ve turned the volume up, then. You know I sleep through anything.” he muttered under his breath, pulling the big blanket covering the both of you up to his shoulders to snuggle under it on the other side of the couch, throwing you a dirty look for ruining his sleep. You frowned at that, though you knew it was well deserved.
“Sorry…” you breathed out, glancing at the TV, now rolling the credits of the movie you were watching. You reached for the remote, turning off the screen before awkwardly getting up from the couch. “I’ll be going into my room then. Sorry again for-”
“Come here.” he motioned with his fingers, and you complied, sitting on the soft cushions again, but this time, right next to his laid down figure. He looked up at you with the softest of stares, and you couldn’t help but melt, drown in them. His lips parted, “Wanna make it up to me?”
You nodded profusely, and he smiled, tilting his head.
“Kiss me, then.”
... ♡ | hwang hyunjin — off-key singing
“There’s no way your ass just laughed at me.” your mouth goes slack the moment a quiet chuckle leaves your best friend’s lips, but he can’t see it, nor can you see the shocked expression forming on his face due to your accusation—after all, you’re in his car, it’s pitch black outside, and the only sliver of light comes from the red buttons of the radio, which is currently playing Drama by aespa.
“I-I wasn’t-”
You scoff, crossing your arms over your chest, “Like, I get you’re this big kpop star or whatever, but laughing at me for singing off-key? Really?”
Hyunjin shakes his head violently, and though he can barely see, his hands somehow find your shoulders. He takes a hold of them before starting to slightly shake you, “Nononononono! That’s not why I laughed! I just thought of something funny and-”
“Spare me from your lies. Please.” you click your tongue, uncrossing your arms, just to shove him away from you. You know you’re being dramatic, but seeing him get all panicked is incredibly cute—he doesn't know this, though, so his heart clenches at the prospect that he may actually, unintentionally, have hurt your feelings.
But what is he supposed to say right now? That in the midst of you singing, he realised just how much he liked you? That he was actually laughing at himself for feeling butterflies every time you touched him, like a teenager? Because, if that is the case, he better come up with another excuse fast.
He gulps nervously, taking a hold of your hands and squeezing them. He’s glad you didn’t push him away this time. “What if... to make you forgive me EVEN IF I WASN’T LAUGHING AT YOU,” he points out in between his beg, making you giggle, “I asked Ning to autograph your photocard? Maybe even invite her to our next group outing?” Hyunjin asks, hope laced in his tone. The vehicle is silent for a while, until you can no longer hold back the squeal begging to be released.
“You’re absolutely forgiven!” you lunge forward to engulf him in a hug, peppering the side of his face with kisses. “Also, I know you’d never laugh at me, I was just being dramatic.”
“Yeah…” he murmurs in your neck as he basks in your warmth, in your cute chuckles, in your pecks for as long as he can. All he hopes however, is for you not to notice how his cheeks have suddenly warmed up to the touch, or his rapidly increasing heartbeat.
... ♡ | han jisung — pet sitting gone wrong
“Bubbles! Stop hiding and come here!” Jisung yelled in a panicked tone, desperately looking through every single bush and under every piece of furniture you owned in your backyard, hoping to find Bubbles, your pet rabbit, so he could put her back inside of your home, but all in vain.
He hadn’t seen the fluff-ball in about 20 minutes, though you gave him clear instructions to never leave her out of his sight, given her passion for putting herself in danger whenever she was outside—but how was he supposed to focus his attention on her, when you kept sending him your adorable selfies, pictures of you trying on cute little outfits, or the text message saying you would be home in about 10 minutes with takeout pizza. Saying he panicked when he read that, and realized he’d not seen Bubbles in more than 5 minutes would be an understatement. “Come on- Please! They should be here soon-”
“Oh, you’re here!” you said as if on cue, a bright smile on your lips as you hugged him and pecked his soft cheek, not noticing the nervousness in his smile. “Thank you so so much for looking after her, Ji. I owe you.”
He gulped, “Uh, yeah… about that-”
“Yeah?” you innocently asked, your hands still around his waist and your eyes still looking up at him with something close to an adoring glint in them. Fuck. He was gonna hate this.
“I-” he hesitated, “I let her roam around in your backyard like you told me, but now I-I can’t find her. But I swear I’ve been looking for her everywhere and—” he rambled, heart clenching when he saw that look in your eyes.
“You what-” you broke the hug, as if his skin now was scorching hot, and immediately started to look for Bubbles. “Oh my god- Han fucking Jisung! It’s almost dark outside, and foxes and raccoons should be out soon-” your heart dropped at the prospect of your sweet pet rabbit falling into their hands. You turned your head back to look at your friend, “When’s the last time you saw her?”
His answer made you fear for her safety even more, and even though your backyard was closed off by a high fence, you didn’t doubt that a hungry fox, raccoon, or dog could easily find a way around it if they saw Bubbles. Jisung watched dread morph in your features, and instantly joined you in your search.
Guilt gnawed at him as every single possible scenario played in his mind- until, he looked somewhere he hadn’t looked previously, and saw fluffy orange and white fur slowly moving up and down inside your late dog’s outdoor home. He sighed in relief when he leaned inside the huge wooden build and saw her curled up in herself- peacefully sleeping. The incredibly heavy weight on his shoulders lifted up when he shouted, “Found her!”
You shot up to your feet, rushing over to him as he carefully took Bubbles in his arms. You dried your tears with the back of your hands, cooing at her. The absolutely heartbreaking sight of you crying because of him made him want to yell and scream at himself. He gathered up the courage to talk. “I’m so so so sorry. I-I’ll make it up to you, yeah? I’ll-I’ll pay for her food and whatever she needs for as long as you want and-”
You shook your head, a smile tugging at your lips at his words. “Don’t worry, Ji. I left her with you because I trust you, and I was just scared something bad had happened to her. I’m not mad at you. She sometimes disappears on me too, so don’t feel too guilty. The most important thing is that she’s okay.” you looked at him, that fond look back in your eyes. You leaned forward to place a delicate peck on the corner of his lips. His heart did a backflip. “Now come on in. I also bought a few cans of beer for us to enjoy along with the pizza.”

One.
Jeongin’s thumb hovers over your contact name, his rosy lip pulled tightly between his teeth. He hesitates for a few seconds before finally dialing your number.
“What do you want?” you start which makes an incredulous snort escape his lips, a gust of powdery air materializing before his mouth from the cold.
“How much do I have to pay you for you to come over?”
“Ten thousand dollars. Cash,” you precise as he mouths along to what you say, already guessing what your next words would be.
He's come to know you at an abhorrent speed these past few months; since you sat right next to him in your biology class, head buried in an oversized navy hoodie. Your perfume knocked into him like a gentle breeze— Sicilian lemon and white bouquet notes, nostalgic summer amid an unforgiven autumn. Memories of sticky fingers from molten ice cream and feet soles meeting the warm sand wafted in the air, alluring him to the kindness of a long-gone summer, you.
That is why he talked to you at first, because you smelled nice, incredibly so. He tells you it's because he liked the pair of shoes you were wearing.
“What if I brought you your favorite coffee?”
“Are you outside my dorm?” you squeal and he imagines you must be scrambling to get up, opening the curtains. He knows he's right as your figure materializes behind the window. “Hi,” you wave, a small giggle escaping your lips. He can't help the fond smile that draws upon his lips.
He thinks he likes you a little.
“Hey, please help me wrap my family’s gifts,” he pouts, waving the coffee in the air. Your order that he memorized by heart, not even meaning to, it was just natural for him to order you coffee every day, to remember your preferences as if they were his own.
“Why are you here if we're going to your dorm anyways?” you laugh, leaning against the window.
“Because I know I need to bribe you,” he sighs, angling his head to the side. “Are you not going to hang up and come downstairs? The coffee will grow cold.”
“I’m coming!”
An hour later, four gifts are resting beside Jeongin's figure, perfectly wrapped thanks to your skilled hands. He's lying on the warmed tiles, and you're right beside him, so close your knee brushes against his thigh now and then.
He is keeping count, well, more so his heart, constricting in his lungs each time you touch.
He's so aware of you, so much he's sure you’ve crawled into his skin, morphing him into nothing but a shell of you.
Perhaps he likes you a lot.
“You're an insane man. Who leaves gift wrapping to the last minute?”
“You're best friends with said insane man.”
“Remind me how did that happen again?” you ask, propping your head on your elbow, and turning to the side to look at him. Jeongin has to pretend that the sight of you hovering over him doesn't affect him. That his eyes aren't drawn to your lips, heart dissolving at your feet, hoping to brush against your own.
Please fall before I fall, he nearly pleads.
“Why are you so close,” he feigns disgust, pushing your face away with his pointer finger.
“What? Does that fluster you?” you question, amused, bringing your face even closer to his. He scrambles away before a blush sprouts on his face, one he wouldn't be able to justify to your scrutinizing gaze.
“As if. You're ugly,” his eyes squint, lips thinning into that particular smile he knows annoys you. He moves to the side swiftly, anticipating the shoe you throw at him.
“You're literally— remind me to never help you again, asshole.”
“I'm kidding. Thank you for today, seriously. I didn't know wrapping gifts could be this hard.” He falls back to the floor dramatically, banging his head against the tiles in the process.
“Well deserved,” you whisper.
“I heard that.”
“Good,” you giggle, before gently massaging the spot where he has bumped his head. He purses his lips against one another, afraid of what words might escape the confines of his throat, vocal cords moving to the gentle rhythm of your touch.
“Will you keep on being this clumsy, Innie? mm?” you muse, tone quieter.
The nickname makes his insides churn, it is always so tender when it falls from your lips. No one has ever called him this softly before. No one has ever called his heart before you.
He shouldn't be this clumsy with it. It is a fragile organ, akin to glass, easily breakable, so translucent— it'd be easy for anyone to peer inside and find you in it.
“Yeah, I probably will.”
He'll stop liking you next year. He hopes. He'll try.
Two.
Next year has come, familiar frigid winds pulling you to Jeongin’s heart, perhaps even more so than before, cementing your being into the nooks and crannies of his soul, perfectly so, as if it was destined for you alone to fill the emptiness inside him.
Seasons have changed and yet summer remains, its essence stored safely within the notes of your perfume, it tickles his nose as you're seated on the countertop, legs swinging lazily while he scouts through his fridge.
“Remind me why we're doing this again?”
“Because I made a bet with Yoon.”
“Your sixteen years old brother?”
“Yes.”
“You are in college.”
“I know.”
“Why are you taking it to heart?”
“Because I have my pride,” he says solemnly, hand on his heart and you roll your eyes.
“You literally begged at my feet fifteen minutes ago to help you.”
A year later, Jeongin stood beneath your window once again, phone brought up to his ear, hand hidden behind his back. You pick up on the first ring.
“Look out the window,” he quickly says before you can even speak.
“Hello, Y/n, how are you, Y/n, are you surviving with the cold—” you say sarcastically as you pull the curtains, the words dissolving in your tongue as he brings a single flower before him— you recognize its pink petals easily, Camellia, the rose of winter.
“I did not have time for coffee, but I plucked this off the sidewalk,” he offers, an amused grin on his face. “Help me bake cookies, pretty please, I'll be forever indebted to you. Forever and ever and ever and ever—”
“This is such a poor rendition of Romeo and Juliet, I'm afraid Shakespeare is suffering in his grave right now.”
“Do you think he knows of every theater play that was done to his story?” Jeongin muses.
“That's a good question actually. I hope he didn't see mine,” you shudder before your face pales.
“You did not tell me you ever did that!”
“I'll bake your cookies and you'll never bring this up again.”
“Deal. My Juliet,” he smirks and you throw a middle finger aggressively to his face before hanging up. He shouldn't find it as endearing as he does.
“Because, my dear Y/n, this is my holiday reputation at stake. I kind of raised the bar last year with my gift wrapping.”
“You did?” you raise an eyebrow promptly at his words and he sighs, taking out the butter before leaning against the fridge.
“We did. Which is exactly why I need your help again. Imagine how embarrassing it would be if Yoon wins,” he shudders and a giggle finally escapes your lips.
The kitchen warms up at the sight of your smile.
“It's cute when you need me once in a while,” you say nonchalantly, hopping off the counter and moving to wash your hands. Jeongin freezes in his place.
“I always need you though,” he confesses quickly, swallowing the words, hoping that this way you wouldn't be able to taste the sincerity coating them, sticky honey dripping from his tongue whenever it speaks of you.
“Good thing you'll always have me then,” you beam, your words hanging into the air, oxygen suddenly harder to inhale.
“Gross,” he fakes a shiver, as his heart drops in his chest, breaks, and twists at the weight your words carry.
He'll always have you, but not in the way he wants to, your eyes would never soften at the mere mention of his name, and you won't think that a season blooms into every room he is in. He has you, but just a fragment of you, not how you have him, as a whole, heart, body, and soul.
He's already fallen, a terrible, terrible fall.
“Will you help me or just stare off into the distance?” you ask, tilting your head to the side. He smiles bashfully, rolling his sleeves and sidling by your side to mix in the eggs, one by one, per your instructions.
It smells nice in the kitchen, the caramelized fragrance of browned butter, sweetened by the sugar dissolving into the warm liquid. Tentative sunlight streams through the window, and it falls perfectly on Jeongin's face, highlighting his sharp features.
Not that jeongin needs any additional light, he reminds you of spring, a flower blooming on his face each time he smiles, his dimples two youthful fountains the roots strive from, brightening his face even more.
He tentatively glances at you as he adds the chocolate chips to the mix, only to find you staring forward. He misses the fond look on your face by a few seconds, the tinting of your features with soft hues of pink, of spring, of him. He always misses it, always misses you.
Three.
"I can't believe you have 37 pairs of shoes but not one nice shirt.”
“It's 36, please count correctly,” Jeongin retaliates and you snort, flopping around in bed till you land on your stomach, chin propped up by your hand. Jeongin is still rummaging through his closet, head almost disappearing into the dark void of his wardrobe.
“What do you need this for anyway?” you question, as you scroll through your phone mindlessly. Jeongin’s eerie silence causes you to look up.
“Um. I have a date tonight.”
“Oh.”
His words hang over the room like a heavy cloak soaked with rain, the oxygen sucked out of your lungs and ensnared within that singular gasp.
Jeongin swiftly turns around, before kneeling beside the bed, eyes brimming with a hopeless search— you are too focused on steadying your breathing to notice.
“Should I go?”
“I mean… Why are you asking me?”
“If you don't want me to, I won't,” he speaks in an overflowing sincerity, as though he'd willingly surrender the reins of his life for you to guide, should you only dare to ask.
A breath, a pause, and he adds, “In case you'll be lonely tonight.” Your hope deflates in an instant, akin to a birthday balloon tossed into the careless hands of children.
Pity, that's what he feels for someone who hasn't had a date in a year while he went on ones regularly. Although they never transcended beyond that first meeting, always a first date, never a second. He says none of the people he meets are his type.
“I have a date too.” It was the truth, Suhoo had told you to meet him at the ice rink. You said you'd think about it. You knew deep down that your answer would be no, solely because he isn't Jeongin.
Perhaps it is too late for him to fall for you.
“Really?”
“Yeah, with Suhoo, you know, the guy in our Economics class.”
“He's nice.”
“Mm.”
Could you lose something you never had in the first place?
“You should wear Seungmin’s white shirt.”
“Yeah. That's what I thought too.”
“And bring them flowers. The rose of winter, maybe.”
You had preserved the plucked flower he gave you in a vase. The pink of the petals liquefying and bleeding into the blush on Jeongin’s cheeks once he noticed.
“That one's just for you.”
Four.
You're alone on the ice rink, the frigid winds assail your form, fingers numb from winter's cruel grasp. Suhoo didn't come after all, perhaps he was offended by you calling him at the last minute to confirm your date.
The chill of disappointment is more biting than the frost— you want to melt off the ice, you want your spring. You want your Jeongin.
But he isn't yours, perhaps he will never be. He is too sought after, too captivated by the fleeting chase of someone new to spare a glance at you.
But in this instant, you need him. You need him to hold your hands in his larger, warmer ones and get you off the ice rink. You need the sight of his familiar dimples and blooming smile.
So, you call him. He picks up on the first ring.
“Are you that bored on your date?” He playfully taunts, and his voice becomes a gentle breeze that stirs the emotions you struggle to contain. Tears cascade down your cheeks in an achingly familiar path.
“I-Innie,” you hiccup, and you’re instantly met with the sound of scraping chairs against the floor, the hastening cadence of footsteps hurrying out into the street.
“Did he do something to you?” He speaks so coldly, a tone so foreign to the warmth of your Jeongin. He shouldn't be tainted with winter too.
“He didn't come. Can you p-please pick me up?”
“I will. I'm coming in a bit, okay?”
He finds you rather quickly on the ice rink, a sore thumb unmoving between the gliding bodies. He skates over to you, almost falling twice in the process.
“You're so clumsy,” you snort as he stands before you, sobs racking through your body once more at the sight of him.
You weren't mad at Suhoo. You were heartbroken over Jeongin.
“I'll beat him up for you. I'll tell Changbin to help me too,” he smiles, hands fidgeting as they land upon your cheeks, trying their best to wipe away your tears.
“Please don't cry. I hate seeing you cry, Y/n, I really can't bear it." The tears only fall harder at his words, as if he's stringing them forth with each touch of his.
“Did he do something to you?” an unknown voice startles you and you turn to your right to find a girl looking at you then at Jeongin, a frown etched on her eyebrows.
“No, I'm her friend I didn't-”
“I wasn't talking to you,” the girl cuts him off and you laugh despite you, as Jeongin’s jaw hangs open, before closing once more.
“It's not him, thank you so much though,” you smile gratefully and she nods, eyes wary as she glares at Jeongin one last time, before skating away.
“I can't believe that just happened,” He exhales, a breath tinged with bewilderment, before he delicately encircles a hand around your back. Gently, he guides your head to rest against the comforting refuge of his chest.
“What are you doing?” you mumble against his navy hoodie, the one he borrowed from you. You can still smell your perfume on him.
“I'm comforting you.”
“You don't like hugs.”
“It's different when it comes to you.”
You close your eyes, allowing the tide of his warmth to envelop you like a cascade of spring petals.
“Where is your date?”
“I didn't go.”
“Why is that?”
“Because I love you. I'm tired of looking for you in other people,” he quickly says and you peel yourself away from him, feeling as if his clothes were suddenly made of fire.
“What?” you whisper, eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“I love you,” he repeats, each word drawn out, much slower this time, his hands cradling your face, tenderly, as though holding the sun between his delicate fingers. “I'm tired of pretending you're not my summer.”
“Don't say things you don't mean,” your voice wavers.
“I mean it. I've always loved you. You complete me in ways I didn't know were possible, and I know you only see me as a friend but-”
Your lips press against his, a culmination of aching desires that have lingered for two years. Distant laughter echoes in the background, ice cream melting onto your fingers, a soft breeze ruffling your hair, flowers blooming under the soft caress of the sun— two seasons melting sweetly into the kiss.
“You're literally so blind,” you giggle against his lips, and his smile widens, your noses brushing against one another. “I love you too, idiot.”
“You love me?”
“You're my favorite season.”
“Don't steal my lines.”
“Hey—” he kisses you this time, the winter is long forgotten.

when blinding sunlight playfully slips through the curtains, you wake up with an ache inside your head, then instant confusion as you take in your surroundings.
this isn't your bedroom.
the clothes you're wearing aren't the ones you put on before you went out last night.
there's someone on the other side of the bedroom door, and the rummaging of cabinets, the clanging of pots and pans.
you sit up fully, clutching the duvet cover close to your chest, evidently disoriented. there's not much for you to go on - the room is clean, tidy, barely any decorations except for what seems to be a few baseball mementos displayed neatly on the credenza sitting opposite from the bed, surrounded by empty cream-colored walls.
a dumb, possibly-still-drunken thought pops up.
oh my god, i've been kidnapped.
you blink, feeling fatigue in every limb, slightly alarmed but not scared even though you probably should be. (you've been told that your survival instincts aren't very sharp.) the brain fog must also be a contributing factor, but even in spite of the thought of being kidnapped, you don't register any sense of imminent danger. just a growing perplexity because not everything has clicked into place yet.
your eyes notice a framed photo on the bedside table when the light catches on the glass. upon closer examination, you gasp sharply, because why the fuck is there a photo of your dog in this strange bedroom?!
oh wait.
okay.
thank fuck. you've been here before.
it's just kim seungmin's bedroom that you're in, and it's just kim seungmin's favorite baseball t-shirt that you're wearing.
after a moment of sitting by yourself in total dumbfounded silence, you venture out of the bedroom on unsteady legs - not even the good kind of wobbly legs that you wished you'd experienced as a result of a freaky night tangled up in the sheets - to find your friend in the kitchen with his back turned to you, hunched over something you can't see on the counter next to the sink.
you take a seat at the kitchen island, making sure to scrape the chair across the floor loudly to alert him of your presence. he turns around at the sound, a bit startled - cute - then throws a smile your way when he realizes who the intruder is.
"morning, sunshine," he chuckles upon seeing the disgruntled look on your face, courtesy of your stubborn headache. "sleep well?"
"i don't even remember what happened," you grumble, bypassing his question entirely. "why am i here? why didn't you take me home?"
"you wouldn't let me. you made me take you back to my place, then you practically demanded to sleep in my bed too," he tells you, filling a glass with water and handing it to you before turning back again to continue working on whatever task he was occupied with before you interrupted him. "thank god you didn't hurl."
you scoff, but you take a grateful sip of the water anyway. "you would've made me sleep on the couch?"
"yes." zero hesitation. motherfucker.
"and they say chivalry is dead."
"you'd be dead too if you had puked on my bed."
"i almost did. i woke up thinking i was kidnapped."
seungmin laughs, extending a hand to his right to grab a container of salt. you recognize it because it's part of the spice container set that you got him as a housewarming gift when he first moved into this apartment.
"would a kidnapper let you wear his favorite shirt and drool on his pillows?" he asks.
"i was practically blacked out. you could've thrown me a potato sack and i wouldn't have noticed."
"yeah, well, you wanted the shirt, so..."
for some reason, it makes you warm all over. though you still feel icky as hell from the night out, the soft material of his tee covering your body becomes more welcoming, makes you want to wrap yourself in the fabric even more.
you clear your throat, trying to dissolve the lump that forms in your throat upon hearing his words. the mischievous sun makes an appearance again, tiptoeing from the bedroom window to the kitchen window, sneaking through the cracks to saturate seungmin in a generous dose of golden light.
he turns around to face you once again, before you can think of anything else to say. he places a plate in front of you, and the sight leaves you a little taken aback. soft boiled eggs, already peeled and halved, sprinkled with your favorite sea salt.
"i don't think a kidnapper would get up early and google how to soft boil eggs either," he says with a casual shrug, but there's a hint of a smile there, tugging at his the corner of his lips.
"you had to google how to boil eggs?"
"soft boil eggs," he tuts, mildly offended that you'd think he's that incompetent in the kitchen. "because you like them."
he lets the smile take over completely now, the very second you feel heat rush to your cheeks.
you don’t remember a time where minho wasn’t there; where he hasn’t occupied your mind every waking moment. it seemed absolutely surreal. minho was just a mere passing thought, not having any significance in your life.
it’s difficult to put into perspective how much has changed in just a few years. being complete strangers with having no knowledge of each other's existence to now sharing a home, married, and unable to imagine life without the other.
you did not know you were even capable of loving someone so much and so easily. but he had managed to prove you wrong anyways, so captivating, so enchanting.
the sound your name falls out of his lips sweetly. you decided long ago that it was your favorite sound. you respond to him with a smile, asking what he wants with familiar tenderness lacing every word.
he asks what would you like to eat for breakfast, whatever you want is what you say back. anything he makes is your favorite.
a chuckle leaves his cat-like lips as he plants a gentle kiss on your forehead, promptly standing up. the bed creaks with movement as you watch him leave with adoring eyes.
the door closes with a click, leaving the room in it's quiet morning chill. you sink back down to the plush pillows, the left side of the bed where he usually sleeps smells like vanilla, amber, floral, and green. him.
you turn to your side, now looking at the framed pictures of you two. happily smiling ear to ear. beside it was also a framed photo of his beloved cats. 'our cats', he said time and time again to correct you.
you ache, thinking what would’ve happened if you two hadn’t crossed paths. would you two be with different people? saying the same sweet nothings to unknown faces? would you have remained strangers and never even know of ones existence? the thought itself devastates you.
you realize you couldn't live without him.
the bedsheets remain forgotten, feet standing to follow him. bright light of the early morning comes to greet you, a meow or two from the floor also bids good morning.
spotting the man that has held your mind and heart captive, his is hands occupied with making breakfast. you wonder if he knows how much he affected you.
your arms wrap to hug him tightly from behind with much urgency, afraid that the universe will pull you apart.
“i’m not going anywhere.” he laughs, flipping himself around to return the warm loving embrace.
your lives are intertwined together. you have no doubt he feels the same way.
