Once again, welcome to the wolfstar au where Remus and Sirius meet each other as Remus is getting married to Sirius’ niece. Wolfstar, RemusxNymphadora, some hints of SiriusxCaradoc.
The wedding finally happens, and Remus and Sirius talk privately. Let me know what you think!
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
The wedding takes place in the local church in June, with the summer just beginning and the Dora dressed in a simple white summer dress, her stomach just beginning to show.
“Sirius,” Andromeda sounds happy when she reaches out for him, she looks younger underneath the frosted lights and with the drunken flush to her cheeks, “Who is this lovely fella next to you, I have to be honest, I half expected you to bring James with you.”
Caradoc laughs beside him, and it grates slightly on his nerves but he pushes through.
“The Potters are on vacation,” he answers instead, which is true, Sirius just wishes that Tonks and Remus could have planned their wedding outside of Summer vacation time so he wasn’t forced to find someone last minute for the wedding. He would have just come with himself but there are only so many questions a man can bare about settling down before he snaps and makes a scene.
“I’m Caradoc,” his ‘date’ introduces himself because Sirius forgot to, and Andy smiles warmly at him before asking politely about how they met.
Sirius lets them speak for a while, lips pressed together before Caradoc excuses himself to go to the washroom.
“He’s a client,” Sirius interjects before Andy can get anything in edgewise, “Who is now a friend.”
“Really, just a friend.” He says before admitting tiredly, “I didn’t want to come alone.”
“Oh Sirius,” Andy says, squeezing his shoulder comfortingly, “You could have come by yourself you know“
He waves his hand dismissively at the notion, “I didn’t want people asking questions about my love life, especially after—“ he winces “—You know. Cardoc’s just doing me a favour.”
His sister sighs heavily, “Sirius I’m pretty sure that he likes you.”
Suddenly glad that he’s not drinking, Sirius shakes his head vehemently, “Nope.”
Andy levels him with a look, one he’s intimately familiar with, her and Regulus really do look alike. Then again, so does everyone in the family.
“It doesn’t matter,” he settles on finally, “I need to be…relationship-free for a while.”
“It’s almost been three years Sirius, and I hate to say this, we’re not getting any younger.”
Jeez, this is exactly why he’d asked Cardoc to pretend to be his date.
“Let’s not do this right now Andy,” Sirius says tiredly, and is somewhat glad when Cardoc returns, this time with two flutes in hand.
It’s champagne, Sirius hates champagne, and he’s also tried to stop drinking before it becomes a genuine problem but he’s just glad to have something to hold. He gives his thanks to Cardoc before gesturing vaguely to a familiar face and telling them that he’ll be back in a bit.
Sirius finds himself away from the wedding party, behind the church (he’s kind of glad for that, was worried that lighting would strike him in there because of all his sins) and currently emptying his flute of champagne into the grass below.
It takes him a moment, perhaps too long a moment, to notice that there’s someone else with him too.
“I’m sure that’s quite enough for the grass.”
He startles, and turns to see, the groom of all people; long legs folded and crouching against the wall.
“H-hey, Remus yeah?” Sirius says, heart almost having jumped out of his throat, “Congratulations mate, what are you doing all the way here?”
Remus Lupin doesn’t look unhappy (which Sirius is glad for, he doesn’t have it in him to confront a runaway groom) but he doesn’t look happy either.
“Nothing, just needed a break from it all,” he gestures helplessly around, “Would have gone for a smoke but I’m trying to quit.”
“For the baby right?” Sirius assumes before muttering, “It’s good to quit bad habits while you can, before they run you over.”
“Yeah I’ve been meaning too, still miss it sometimes, thought I’d come out here and get some fresh air in.”
They stay next to each other in silence, it’s not exactly awkward, just….anticipatory, like there’s another shoe to drop.
“It was a beautiful wedding,” Sirius finally says because that seems like the correct thing to say, “You and Dora make a lovely couple.”
And he does mean it, Dora looked lovely in her summer dress, dark roots showing and the ends of her hair pink now that the colour has faded, she reminded Sirius of woodland fairies, although that may be his own mind playing tricks on him considering that he remembers her much younger, hair cropped short with a pair of plastic wings and running around declaring herself to be one.
Remus looked nice too, looking so tall and not so awkward waiting at the end of the aisle. Sirius has to admit, he cleans up nice.
Lupin hums, before thanking him in the polite way that people do.
Finding that there is nothing more to say, Sirius stops talking, keeping his distance and basking in the silence for a moment.
“We’re thinking of naming the baby Teddy.”
Sirius holds his breath, before exhaling and turning to look at the man beside him, “Ted will like that,” he says finally, not sure what else to add. “You’re having a boy, that’s nice.”
“Yeah,” Remus chuckles, it’s a nice sound, one Sirius tries not to linger on. “Dora thought he would, and—“ he shrugs “—I wanted him to have a normal name.”
He can’t help but crack a smile at that, “Preaching to the choir there. Andy would like that too.”
Remus’ smile falters slightly before he nods, “Yeah it took her some getting used to.”
There’s not much Sirius can say to appease the guy, it’s true, Andy’s fears of her daughter growing up too quickly. She’s going to have to hold back on the beat cop training, at least for a bit. Andy will always put her daughter first, but she’s not going to lose contact with her daughter, no matter what she thinks of her choices.
“Andy always wanted grand babies,” is what he says in return.
Sirius barks out a laugh.”What do you think?”
Not taking bait, Lupin looks back at him, “I don’t know, that’s why I’m asking.”
“I have a godson,” Sirius says after realising that the groom is well…serious, “Harry is enough for me and I don’t think….” He hesitates, “A guy like me would be good at raising kids, not that it would be easy for me to adopt one either.”
It’s silent, as some sort of realisation sets in to Remus, “Oh.”
“Yeah,” he says, “Oh.” This time he steps closer, looming over Lupin’s crouched form. “Listen mate, you’re not having cold feet or anything right, because—“
“No, no!” Remus protests, and he sound genuine at least, amber eyes wide and scars almost silver in the moonlight. It really is late.
“I love Tonks,” he says, “I’d do anything for. I’m just…worried about being a good dad.”
Sirius is glad that he’s not going to have chase down a runaway groom at least, “Well Remus,” he claps a hand on the man’s surprisingly sturdy shoulder, “I’d say that it’s a good sign that you’re worried. Just don’t let it get to your head. Talk to your wife about it if you have to.”
Remus nods, and Sirius thinks that it will all be fine.
