I spent the morning filming a socially distanced interview next to my @survivor.love.letter mural (or giant painting?!) of @smashfizzle in the Fear No Art show at @sdpubliclibrary. It was my first time checking out the show because the library’s gallery was shut down when coronavirus hit. They’ll be releasing a virtual gallery experience including interviews with some of the show’s living artists (🙋🏻‍♀️!) so stay tuned! The show has some really great work from contemporary artists as well as from the City’s collection that I’m disappointed can’t be experienced in person. There is something about being in front of real art that can’t be expressed through a screen and maybe these times when institutions are closed will inspire artists to bring more of their art to the streets! After 2 weeks of working on this 113 foot long wall, I finally feel like I’m getting somewhere! I’m only about half way done with this wall of native flowers and the white Matilija Poppy alone took me 2 days to paint! Today I learned about the death of Elijah McClain and my heart broke. He was a black boy who was killed by white police officers in Aurora, Colorado last year while he was walking home. He did nothing wrong and from seeing videos and photos of him and hearing his last words, you can just tell he was the sweetest person who did not deserve to die. I finally had the chance to photograph my latest mural on @lyft's new Driver Center in San Diego, California! The 90 foot long and 22 foot high wall features my interpretation of Lyft's future of travel. There are public, electric, and hybrid vehicles alongside some scooter riders getting around throughout some of the city's most iconic landmarks. Wooooohoooo! Today I am putting finishing touches on my giant mural for @lyft’s new Driver Center in San Diego! It has been a wonderful 23 days of painting and it has been so fun working on the construction site with all the other workers (electricians, sprinkler installers, superintendents, security, painters, etc.) to make this building come together. On Thursday night I finally finished painting my first elevator interior! My mural features a palm frond, rubber trees, abstracted sunsets, an aloe, some leopard spots, and some squiggles.
