Shoutout to Disneyâs Descendants for having the most vibes based worldbuilding Iâve ever seen in my life. Legitimately thinking about any of it for more than two seconds makes everything crumble apart logistically and I think thereâs an art in that.
So, Iâm sitting on the bus listening to Whatâs My Name, and I had a thought
Where did this idea of a call and response come from? Like, in-universe, how did this start?
Itâs a running theme throughout the films and books that If Uma asks âwhatâs my name?â The crew responds enthusiastically with âUma!â. Also, the musical numbers are diegetic, so the crew just off the cuff starts singing the call and response as a chorus while Uma and Harry adlib the rest.
I wanna know the story behind that kind of loyalty, especially since itâs implied at the end of Itâs Going Down that the crew repeating her name might give Uma power(?)
I always thought it was in response to the Shrimpy thing. For a while, practically everyone on the Isle (at least in their age group) was calling her Shrimpy because of Mal's prank, so saying "What's my name?" was probably initially a thing she did after besting someone.
Like, someone thinks they can push her around by calling her Shrimpy, she duels them, and while they're on their back with her sword pointed at them, she says, "What's my name?" and they say "Uma" in defeat. (If Harry is present at the time, he might say "Uma" in exultation, because he's just Like That.) A fight that started as a "What did you call me?" has ended with a "What's my name?"
As she gains respect from a lot of people, this kind of thing becomes something they all take pride in. She bests someone and says, "What's my name?", and the crew joins in, triumphantly saying, "UMA!"
And from there, it becomes a thing she says outside of the context of fights, to motivate and energize them. They believe in her. And I do think they probably have some amount of "Repeating her name gives her power," in their heads, especially as new crew members join and the original context for this social ritual is lost because very few people dare to call her Shrimpy anymore.
The Other Four it's my Descendants AU where instead of Ben proclamation inviting Mal, Jay, Evie and Carlos, he invited the children of The Queen of Hearts, Prince John, The Horned King (Maligno) and one of Madame Mim grandchildren a few weeks/one to two months before The Royal Banquet, changing a whole lot of the events and relationships in the Descendants canon universe

Chad always enjoyed coming back home after a trip away.
He'd been off visiting Audrey; after everything that had happened between themâ from junior year until nowâ there'd been a lot to discuss. Chad still didn't quite know what they were, even after going to see her; he would call them a couple anymore, but definitely still friends, and perhaps there was still room to grow together... at least he hoped there was. He knew he at least still loved herâ Chad didn't think he would ever truly stopâ but he'd been honest in telling her he needed time to recover from what had happened over the summer before they tried again.
Audrey had beenâ for a lack of better wordsâ disappointed, but she had understood. She'd hurt him, that much she knew, and Audrey could agree to give him that space; she was just happy he still wanted to be friends with her, and that could be enough for now.
The grand, sparkling halls of the Crystal Palace welcomed Chad back like an old friend. His parentsâ King Henry and Queen Consort Ellaâ had met him when he'd arrived, happy to see their son back home, yet now Chad walked alone on his up toward his bedroom. His blue Hermes brand sneakers squeaked lightly with every step on the freshly polished floors, and when Chad looked down at them, he could see the glittering reflection of the crystal chandelliers from above in the floor's reflection.
If there was one thing he could commend the Cinderellasburgh staff for was their committment to being sticklers of the little details.
Chad ascended the spiral staircase and traveled another hall before finally reaching the wing of the Palace he shared with his sisters... The Children's Wing. He still hated it was referred to as that; none of them were children anymore, but it didn't stop his parents.
The wing was quieter than he'd expected, almost like it was stuck in time as he reached the door to his room. Usually, he'd hear the voice and commotion coming from his sister's open doors; they hardly ever shut their doors on each other unless they needed to. He was used to hearing Eloise practicing a new cheer routine or talking and laughing with friends on the phone, and Chloe practicing guitar, facetiming with her boyfriend, or caring for her prized sword, Tiago.
Welcome home to him, he guessed...
Entering his own roomâ keeping the door crackedâ Chad shrugged off his jacket, laying it across the back of the entryway couch, and slipped off his shoes, discarding of them in their proper box, before entering futher into his room. It was a stark constrast from the glittering baby blue and silver halls of the Palace. Rich, dark oak mixed with a range of blue and gray tones. His large, grand bed sat up against the middle of the back wall, a study area nestled perfectly into the area of the large, circular bay window, and his vast gaming system was arranged perfectly right in the entryway over the fireplace. Trinkets, gifts, and trophies lined the dozens of shelves throughout the room, intermixed with his favorite books, and Chad knew that somewhere amongst the shelves, his favorite childhood toy was safely tucked awayâ a knight in shining armor.
All his ROAR and Tourney gear was safely tucked away in his closet, ready to travel with him back to Auradon City next month to attend the University of Auradon. The only thing resembling either sport in the main part of his room was his old high school tourney jersey, which had been framed up as gifts for all the seniors during their final match last school year. Chad hung his proudly in the entryway of his room.
He couldn't wait to start at UoA, still honored to have been recruited to play two sports for themâ most high school atheltes only got recruited for oneâ and sure it wasn't Sherwood Forest University (aka: they best university tourney team), but UoA was still prestigious in it's own right, being the oldest University in all the kingdoms. And, they were in the top 5 for tourney and ROAR teams, so Chad supposed it wasn't a bad deal.
Chad flopped down onto his bed was a sigh, thankful for finally being able to rest after the long trip back from Auroria. He pulled his phone from his pocket, where he was met by a slew of notifications. Audrey had texted him, thanking him for letting her know he was home safe, dozens of social media pings, and AuraTube video notifications all flew past his eyes. He quickly replied back to Audrey before switching over to the chat he shared with his sistersâ Totally Charmingâ where the last message that'd been sent was from Eloise, who'd told her older brother to drive safe. Chad still hadn't replied back telling them he was home, hoping they would've come with their parents to greet him; sure, they hadn't said they'd be there when he got home, but he'd at least expected them to tell him if they wouldn't be.
He sent a simple text:
Chad: Where are you two? I thought I'd see you when I got home.
He waited for either sister to reply, but he was met with silence on all fronts. Usually, Chad wouldn't have minded being left alone first thing after he got home, but he'd actually been looking forward to seeing Eloise and Chloe this time. He hadn't seen them both much that summerâ between the whole situtation post graduation and going to see Audreyâ so he'd actually been exicted to spend a little time with them.
Giving up on waiting, Chad rolled his eyes, shut off his phone, and set it beside him on the bed. Finally deciding to take advantage of the quiet, he closed his eyes and relaxed deeper into the mattress. The silence which followed was nice, but of course,whenever you want one thing, you're bound to get the opposite.
His phone buzzed beside him, and despite his previous want for a text back, he was slow to pick it up. When he did, he was met with a single text from the group chatâ
Sparkles: Are you in your room?
He texted back a replyâ Yes.
Sparkles: I'll be there in a minute. Have something to show you.
Chad thumbs-upped the message and let her know his door was open. He sat up in bed, but didn't make a move to head toward the entryway to greet her; he figured she'd be able to come find him easily enough regardless.
He heard Chloe in the hallway before he saw her.
Chad's ears perked up at the sound of sneakers squeaking on the floor, just like his had earlier; sneakers which stopped right at his door, pushing it open accompanied by the voice of his sister.
"Sorry I didn't come to meet you! I was in the middle of something."
He couldn't see her yet, but he rose from the bed, aiming to meet her in the middle. Chad heard her close the door to his room, and when they were finally face-to-face, Chad wasn't met with the same dark hair he was expecting. Instead, all he noticed was blue.
Blue... why was her hair blue?
Chloe had never been one to dye her hairâ not that their parents would let her when she was youngerâ and Chad had never expected her to change it up like this. Sure, Audrey had dyed her hair a while back, but it wasn't common for kids in Auradon to dye their hair in crazy colors like pink, purple, or blue.
It wasn't fully blue, but a good chunk was. She still had her natural, dark brown, but it was intermixed with veins of dusky blue from top of bottom. He had to admit, it looked niceâ kind of reminding him of Evieâ but he just wasn't expecting Chloe to ever do something like that.
"New hair?"
Chloe nodded, "I just got done. That's why I wasn't there to meet you."
"Where's Ellie?"
"Out shopping with Aveline. They've had this planned for days."
Chad nodded like he was paying attention, but Chloe could notice him staring at her hair.
"What? Do you not like it?"
"It's blue."
"Good observation, Captain Obvious." Chloe said it like a joke, but when he didn't laugh alongside her, Chloe's face shifted, "Why're you being weird about it? It's just hair."
âWhat made you wanna do this?â
Chloe shrugged, âI dunno; I wanted a change, I guess. Nate likes it.â
Chad playfully rolled his eyes, âOf course he does. Heâd love anything you did.â
His sister couldnât help but laugh at that. Chloe knew he wasnât wrong; her boyfriendâ Prince Nathaniel Luvero of Bayou dâOrleansâ really would love anything she did, no matter what. He was deeply in love with her, just as Chloe was with him; two people that couldnât be more perfect for one another, and Chad supposed he could respect it, even if he wasnât the biggest fan of the kid.
âDo you really not like it?â
Chad sighed, âNo, itâs not that. I just wasnât expecting itâŠâ He took a moment to really study the new hair before offering her a small smile, âI think it suits you.â
That made her smile.
âYeah?â
âYeah.â
âI think youâd look good with blue hair, too,â Chloe commented. âWe could match; maybe even get Ellie to join us.â
Chad laughed, âNot a chance.â
âWhat? Convincing Ellie, or you dying your hair?â
âBoth.â
âIâll get you one of these days, just you wait.â
âYeah, sure you will.â
Little did Chad know just how true her statement would becomeâŠ

There is also the Dungeon Shopping Channel, one of two TV channels that make it to the Isle.
Many Isle businesses also serve as residences, with house-shoppes being common. Residential rooms will be on the top floors, and the shop will be on the ground level.
In Auradon, shops are much like those in the real world, with malls being common. In Auradon, more shops are corporatized rather than being family businesses.
Franchises are also common in Auradon, as opposed to the Isle, where theyâre practically nonexistent.
In Auradon, it is considered immoral to sell magical goods. Itâs encouraged to donate these items to the museum of cultural history instead, or loan their power to the barrier upkeep project.
Shops in Auradon accept Auradonian currency.
Shops in the Isle accept a range of things from pseudocurrency, to trade, to labor exchange.
Itâs common on the Isle to offer yourself up for work hours in exchange for a meal at places like Ursulaâs Fish & Chips and Shan Yuâs Dim Sums.
On the Isle, the Slop Shop is more of a group of independent food sellers, like a food court with stalls.
The shopping districts are on the coast of the Isle, near where the ships come in to the wharf.
Ursulaâs faction is the main financial power of the Isle, housing most of the shopping district in its territory.
Ampora and Leta were sitting outside together, Ampora was fishing for a âŠâŠ.. fish, in a lake and Leta was watching her for their parents. All was normal, for the madrigals, when a limousine pulled up by the casita.
"Thatâs suspicious, why would a limo be here?"
"Beats me."
They both stare at the limousine, itâs sleek black color reflecting in the light. They watched as the man inside the limo stepped out and rung the Casita's doorbell.
DIINGGGG
Mirabel quickly answered the door as she heard it ring, opening it to feel the fresh air on her face.
"Iâm here for Maryam Madrigal, LuciĂ triton Madrigal, Ampora Triton Madrigal, Leta triton madrigal, Antonio Guzman Madrigal, Alejandro Madrigal, and Mateo Madrigal."
The limousine was pretty big so it could fit a lot of people at one time, Leta and Ampora started to overhear the manâs speech and walked towards the Limousine.
"I'll go get them."
Mirabel spoke as she nodded, Maryam, LucĂa, Antonio and Alejandro were all in Mateo's room playing monopoly.
"THATS NOT HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME!!!!!! YOU DON'T GET TO TAKE ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS FROM ME BECAUSE YOU GOT A NEW HOTEL!!!!!!!"
Mateo's shouting was upped with his gift, he was tempted to slap Antonio for his stupidity while playing monopoly. Everyone else was laughing at Mateo for getting angry over a game. But to him, this was real life. Mirabel shouted back as she knocked on the door.
"ALL OF YOU DOWNSTAIRS!!!!"
With that, everyone came out of Mateo's room and downstairs. And when the got downstairs, they saw the man at the front door.
"I'm taking all of you to Auradon prep, please enter the limousine."
All four of them looked shocked before entering the limousine and sitting down. Their eyes widened as they saw tons of candy on the limousines compartment, immediately, Ampora and Mateo went for the chocolates and rock candy. Mateo grabbed a blue rock candy lollipop and Ampora grabbed a bunch of chocolate, Antonio and Alejandro turned on the TV on the ceiling of the Limousine. Maryam was the only who bothered to look at the window and saw that they were going to fall off of the bridge.
"GUYS LOOK!!!!"
Maryam said before pointing at the windshield, it was a trap. Or at least so they thought, Leta and Maryam started screaming tillâŠ. They saw the magic barrier breaking before they entered a new worldâŠ..
