Happy St. Padriag’s day CT fans!
Things you saw on the tour but not on the album or DVD, ‘x’ edition
- Damian doing the ‘floss’ at random points in group numbers
- In “Useta Lover,” the line ‘glory of the lass’ was changed to ‘the glory of her ass’ and the lads all knelt down and looked like they were looking at a lady’s rear
- Also in “Useta Lover,” the boys crossing themselves at the ‘six months in confession’ line
- All the ‘Emmet is a diva’ jokes
- Neil’s shiny ass guitar blinding the hell out of you thanks to the stage lights
- Neil singing “Another One Bites the Dust” when talking about Irish wakes and doing silly voices before finally singing “Finnegan’s Wake”
- Emmet getting out of breath during “Phil the Fluter’s Ball”
- Ryan still acting like he’s gonna grab the back of Damo’s kilt like they used to 10 years ago
- CRYING YOUR EYES OUT WHEN THEY SING GEORGE’S SONGS, LIKE “CALEDONIA”
- All David Monroe’s jokes, mostly about how old most of the audience members are (’Who remembers that song the first time around?’ *audience cheers* ‘I wouldn’t be cheering; that was fifty years ago! You just admitted a lot!’)
- Hearing someone say, ‘I liked the dark-haired one,’ and thinking, ‘Wait, which one though?’
- Lots of old favorites like “Always There,” “Turning Away,” and “Caledonia” just to name a few, since they had to make up for time that would have gone to Michael’s features, which had to be written out since he couldn’t go on tour
- All the funny little dirty/playfully vulgar gestures and facial expressions during suggestive songs like “Right, All Right” and “Useta Lover”
- Lads being lads
- Irish humour
- The group experience overall; experiencing the show in a crowd is so much different and such a unique feeling if you’ve never experienced it before, which I hadn’t
- The lads’ accents somehow get stronger as the show goes on lmao
- KILT SPINS DURING “IRELAND’S CALL” LIKE THEY LOOK EVEN COOLER LIVE THAN IN THE VIDEOS JESUS
- Also, the interesting fact that they kept a lot of the same choreography in songs that used to have kilt spins despite the fact that they wear mostly trousers now…some of it looks really weird in trousers…like, you know that they were supposed to have kilts on originally and it just looks…odd
- The Celtic Thunder Band is so good it’s hard to believe they’re actually doing all of that live
- Having the old man next to you whose wife made him go look so perplexed every time you laugh or clap or get excited in any way
- Nicole and Seana’s dresses (they change after intermission, and they’re just gorgeous)
- All the lads’ jokes, poking fun at each other, etc.
- The fantastic projections on the screen behind them; you see some of it in the YouTube videos and DVDs but you definitely miss the full effect
These men are absolute darlings and I had THE MOST AMAZING time last night. My best friend and I have been waiting YEARS to see Celtic Thunder. Were were middle, third row from the stage and the VIP event after the show was SO much fun.
Emmet Cahill appreciation post because…Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, this is one fine man!
He’s got the voice of an angel, he plays guitar, piano, violin, and accordion, and he is endlessly polite. Oh, yeah, and he’s very pretty to look at. Lol. He hasn’t been with CT the whole ten years, but he’s definitely one of the most memorable members, often performing traditional Irish ballads and cracking some hilarious jokes. I’ve seen 2 of his solo shows and one show with CT (last night!!! It was so amazing!!!), and I have met him twice as well. He really is the nicest man you’ll ever meet.
Ryan Kelly appreciation post (because there just aren’t enough pictures of this beautiful man on this website). He’s almost old enough to be my father, but I’d not turn him down. 😉
Saw him perform live last night. You should have heard how crazy the crowd wrnt when he, violinist Nicole Hudson, and the Celtic Thunder band did “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” It truly was an amazing thing to behold.
Keep Neil and his family in your thoughts
From the Byrne and Kelly facebook:
Hi folks,
This is not a statement we ever wished to release, but, as always, we feel it necessary to keep you all up to date with the current situation.
Neil received a phone call in the early hours of Friday morning from home informing him that the medical specialists treating his father in Dublin have advised Neil's close family to travel to his bedside as soon as they possibly can to be able to spend those last precious moments with him in his final days.
As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for Neil and his family but we moved fast to get Neil on a flight home to be with those closest to Eddie.
We regret that this means we've sadly had to cancel the remaining shows on this tour at the present time, however we do hope you can appreciate the need to be with family at this very difficult time. We will be in contact with all ticket holders in due course to facilitate refunds and hope to be able to reschedule as many shows as we can at a later date.
We thank you so much for your understanding at this sad time. Neil, the Byrne family, and all the "Byrne and Kelly" family appreciate all your prayers for Eddie and his family circle.
Please be advised that we will keep you informed of any further developments as they occur.
Thank you and God Bless.
Neil & Ryan xx

Oh, how much I like this song.

It’s old, but I haven’t seen this video before.
