You know, a fic that I think was largely slept on is @tysonrunningfox's Crown Loyal, so let's all go back and show it some love.

After All We Lost by CelticBlair is also a beautiful work of art. The description of making prosthetics in the mid twentieth century is quite engrossing and it's full of sweet Hiccstrid shyly falling for each other. Go read it!

Aaaah I was just scrolling down my bookmarks page to try to find the links and was reminded of The World Will Remember Us, a Hiccstrid Bonnie and Clyde au. So, so good. It's an orphaned work so can sometimes be harder to find, so let's remember it again.

I haven't exactly been quiet but I've also tried not to tease because I didn't know when I would be ready to post but I can't live by myself with this anymore.

This is mostly written, as in, the last two or three chapters are up in the air and I'll be editing as I go, but you can anticipate regular updates, probably 2 a week as a tentative plan. This fic is largely borne out of the recent realization that I am allowed to. put whatever words I want next to each other, there are no laws, and sometimes a very special combination can create true psychic damage.

Another fun thing I do with customers - specifically parents of very small children who don’t know they’re alive yet - is directly imply I think the coffee is for the baby, not the parent. and lemme tell you, like 70% of parents eat that shit up. Zephyr knew from her earliest years that she would be the one to take her father’s place as Chief. Well, Chieftess. Whether the people of New Berk were ready for a change like that or not. Unfortunately, it seems that more people were not ready for that change than she had hoped. But with a new threat slashing its way through the Archipelago, eyes set on New Berk and the secrets that flew away 2 years before Zephyr was born, she would have the chance to prove herself to her people soon enough. Whether she was ready for a change like that or not.

3 weeks earlier

As they stepped into the main throughway of the Northern Markets, Gustav already didn’t like what he saw. The stalls still looked as near-bare as they had been on their last trip a month earlier, and even the people were few and far between, save the traders in their stalls.

Gustav looked at Throk. “I mean I expected the Markets to be a little sparse, but I thought they’d have restocked at least a little since last time.”

Throk nodded. “It is a bit concerning,” he muttered.

That didn’t make him feel any better. “Let’s just get what we need and get back home.”

“Agreed. We will buy out whatever stock the merchants have if we must. But a long stay does not seem prudent.”

“Ditto. Alright, let’s get this over with.”

As they continued down the line, they found more of the same - stalls bare of the essentials and sparse of anything else.

“They really do look just as empty as before,” Gustav muttered.

“I feel we will not have much luck here,” Throk agreed.

“What do you think is keeping all the stalls so bare?”

Throk thought for a moment. “I wish I knew.” He looked around warily before stepping closer to Gustav. “Do not make it obvious who we are or where we hail from. The usual merchants will know us, but I am more concerned about newer faces who may be looking for us.”

I’m still alive! I know it has been a while again, sorry for that! A little recap of my year: I’m still really enjoying my full-time job, and my partner and I found a home for the both of us and moved in together! It was a brand-new house so over the past few months we have been doing a lot of work on the house: putting in the floors and wallpaper on the walls to really make it ours. And we are very happy here!

But I still love this story and I’m not ready to abandon it, so thanks to my awesome betas, I have done two things in July:

Published a Podcast (POTAcast!) in which I talk with two of my betas, CelticTreeMuffin and seagreen-meets-grey, about the story, the process and we loved most in both of those. You can find it here!

I put in the work to publish another chapter! It’s not as long as my usual chapters but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. I enjoyed working on it!

Full synopsis:

After five years of relentlessly putting up a siege against the Red Death, Hiccup, the former terrorist known as the Phantom of the Arena, has finally defeated the Archipelago's greatest enemy, putting a definitive end to the dragon raids. Hoping the worst is finally behind him, he returns to Berk, only to find he left more behind than just the girl he loved. And that life still isn't done with him.

Outside of the Archipelago, Eret, son of Eret, is left with nothing after a mysterious dragon rider destroys his fort and releases the captured dragons his employer sorely needed. Fearing he'll be killed if he doesn't, he flees to the Archipelago with what little remains, hoping to find employment in the dragon-infested area. But the threat seems to have followed him, as news spreads of how Berk's infamous Phantom has returned to reclaim what's his. And that people like Eret will never be safe, unless they act against him.

Hello! Thank you so much for asking! Yes, I do plan on finishing Achillea as I have a few plans for it as well. It's taking so long because life has been kicking my ass quite hard, and unfortunately due to that I had to take a step back from writing and online life in general.

Worry not though! I do plan on updating Achillea soonish enough!
