Marvel vs. Capcom Returns to Start a New Era
For those in the fighting game community Marvel vs. Capcom 3 came out with a bang and left with a fizzle. After Marvel’s historic deal with Disney, Disney decided to pull all of their character licensing contracts in order to create Disney Infinity. With the contracts and rights to Marvel characters being cancelled, that meant MvC3 would die off due to Capcom not being able to update or add characters. After successfully gaining all of their characters back thanks to the success of Disney Infinity; Disney decided to stop production on the game and its figures. In the interim a new Marvel Games division had been formed and their first order of business was to switch back to a licensing based games model. The first game announced was the Playstation 4 exclusive Spider-Man. And the second…Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite!
Weeks leading up to the annual Playstation Experience conference a new Marvel vs Capcom had been teased and outed by several different sources and gaming blogs. Then on Saturday, December 3rd, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was announced! The announcement came to much fan fair and thunderous crowd celebration. The trailer showed Capcom favorites Ryu and Mega Man X duking it out with Marvel mainstay Iron Man and new comer Captain Marvel. Later that night we were treated to the official gameplay trailer and that following Sunday an extended trailer featuring Morrigan and Captain America.
In the gameplay we see MvC going back to its two person tag system roots and bring back the Infinity Store power ups. The Infinity Stone system will be taking the place of the X-factor power up systems introduced in MvC3, while the dual tag system will help ton down the craziness of the triple tag system.
To guide MvC in to the new era, Vs. Series veteran Norio Hirose will be directing Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Hirose-san is a veteran of the Vs. Series having worked on X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Street Fighter, the original Marvel vs. Capcom, Project Justice and Capcom vs. SNK.
Check out the new trailers and let us know how excited you are for MvC:I and what characters you want to see!

Gears 4 Steps Back To Move Forward (Gears of War 4 Review)
Last time we saw Gears of War was Gears of War: Judgment. Judgement left a lot of legacy fans jaded and was not very well received. Many felt Judgement took away what made Gears, well Gears. As a forever fan of the Gears of War franchise, even I was a tad bit apprehensive when Microsoft announced a new Gears title. Microsoft Studios purchased the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games in 2014 and quickly assigned Black Tusk Studios, now The Coalition, to develop the new game. To add more napalm to the fire, Gears vet Rod Fergusson was brought on board to help guide Gears and the new team behind the franchise into familiar and uncharted waters.
The first time we got a glimpse of the new Gears was at E3 2015 and the shock and awe was real. Seeing JD and Kait take on a group of Pouncers for the first time was enough for people to say “Welcome back Gears!” We would have to wait until E3 2016 to get a better more polished look at Gears 4; and what a difference a year made. Grab your custom Lancer, your COG armor and your frag grenades as we walk back into Sera.
Gears of War 4’s campaign focuses on JD Fenix, the son of Coalition hero Marcus Fenix. 25 years after the events of Gears 3, the planet Sera is free of the Locust and Lambent threat…but that peace came with a price. The Imulsion Countermeasure may have eradicated the Locust and the Lambent but it also destroyed Sera in the process by depleting the planet of fossil fuels. This also created a new threat in the form of Windflares, wild feral storms that rip the planet apart. There are new enemy threats, The DeeBees and “The Swarm.” The DeeBees were created by the Coalition of Ordered Governments to replace human soldiers and to limit civilian casualties. The Swarm are a new breed of enemy, hyper evolved and better than the enemy you know. Your job as JD, joined by your friends Kait and Del, is to get to the bottom of the mystery behind The Swarm and escape the COG in the process.
The enemies in Gears aren’t they only thing that got hyper evolved; the multiplayer got a boost as well. Gears of War 4’s multiplayer is spearheaded by the fantastically redone Horde Mode. Horde 3.0 is a different beast all together. The new Horde is equal parts tower defense and classic Gears gore. Each person has a class and each class has a job to do. If you don’t perform your job well, it could cost your team. Another new addition to the Gears multiplayer is Dodgeball. Dodgeball is Execution with well…dodgeball rules. When you kill someone on the other team, you bring back a dead teammate. The back and forth of this game mode not only adds a layer of intensity but makes you play a little bit smarter. Multiplayer still offers traditional Execution, King of the Hill, Team Death Match and Arms Race making for a well balanced experience.
Gears of War 4’s campaign offers you more of what you know and love from the original trilogy but this time is backed by the power of Unreal Engine 4. The Coalition team takes full advantage of the engine as Gears has never looked cleaner or played better. In the campaign you are introduced the new game play mechanics such as the cover pull and execute and new weapons like the Embor and the Overkill. The story in Gears moves fast and fluid and its pace is matched by an equal amount of down time. The retooled multiplayer adds something new and old with surprises packed in like the ability to play as Run The Jewels members Killer Mike and El-P and 10 year Carmine family themed back.
If you have an Xbox One and need your new exclusive fix, Gears is it. For those that haven’t yet picked up a Xbox One, Gears is more than a worthy reason to spend you money on a new piece of tech.

Bioware is Ready for the Next Mass Effect Adventure
N7 Day has come and gone and what a day it was. Young Justice to Make Its Triumphant Return
We all asked for it. Fans bought the blu-rays and binged the show on Netflix. We all used hashtags pushing to keep the show alive and well…it worked!
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics announced today that the fan favorite show will make its return with Young Justice Season 3. Original Producers and show runners Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti will be returning to the fold.
Young Justice ran for two seasons on Cartoon Network before being cancelled. Said cancelation left a lot of loyal fans outraged and upset.
There is no news on premiere date and time or what network or streaming service it may appear on. With the recent DCTV deal with Netflix, there is a possibility the show ends up on the popular streaming platform. Cartoon Network may have first claim to the new season seeing as the show first appeared on said network.
For the full press release head over to the Warner Bros. website and to sign up for updates head to the Young Justice website.

Nintendo is Ready to Make the “Switch"
After more than a year of waiting…Goodbye Nintendo NX. Hello Nintendo Switch! Am I the only one that has that Will Smith song pop into their head?
You can ask anyone I was pretty blunt and critical of the Nintendo NX “experiment.” I ranted about it on the Cerebral Syndicate podcast enough to fuel a burning sun. But like always Nintendo puts its money where its mouth is and gave us something new, something total unexpected.
The Nintendo Switch is a console/mobile handheld hybrid. Sounds weird? Let me explain. The console itself looks like the Wii or Wii U in principle but with MAJOR tweaks. First it looks like there are two major receiver parts, the console base itself for the TV and the receiver for controller. Second the console does not have a disc drive. Nintendo is forgoing the normal disc format and switching (Haha) back to cartridge technology ala 3DS or Playstation Vita. The cartridge you put into the controller itself that way you can take it on the go. Oh yes…I said on the go. So third and probably most important of all the Nintendo Switch supports multiple controller configurations. You can use Wii U controller format, the Switch JoyCon traditional controller (JoyCon is the name of the controllers), in the traditional Wii U mode you can use the screen and JoyCon controllers as a self contained system AND supports a two player mode (we even see a four player scenario) and lastly you can use the new Switch Pro Controller (which will probably be sold separately) to play on screen in a more traditional fashion.
We even get a look at a few games in the trailer. Of course we see first party titles like Mario (Sunshine 2 please?!), Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart. From the looks of it Nintendo is trying to bolster their third party support as well. In the trailer we see NBA 2K and Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, both of which are from 2K Games who previously didn’t have a big presence on Nintendo consoles. 2K will also be joined by the likes of Capcom, WB Games, Epic, Activision, EA, Atlus, Sega, Ubisoft, Bethesda, Gametrust, Bandai Namco and many more.
The exciting thing here, for me anyway, is they are committed to not killing the 3DS platform. Well at least not yet. The 3DS (and its predecessors) is important to Nintendo’s DNA as a company and I can’t see them doing away with it in a cold and hard fashion. Also we don’t know if the Switch is backwards compatible. Which leads into a bigger question; are we going to see a overhaul of their online infrastructure?
Check out the trailer and tell us your thoughts. We will keep you updated as Nintendo gives us more information.

Developer Joycity Wants to Bring Street Basketball Back With 3on3 Freestyle
If you guys know anything about CS, we are HUGE fans of extreme and street games around the office. In our Sports Games podcast we talked about how we miss not having EA Sports Big style games. Well it looks like Joycity Games has a solution to the problem.
3on3 Freestyle looks to pick up where games like NBA Street left off, but with a better flare. Freestyle will be a 3on3 multiplayer street basketball game but with a twist. The game may not have access to officially licensed teams and players but they more than make up for it. The team at Joycity decided that the best way to achieve a game of this magnitude is with authenticity. This meant going around the U.S. and getting familiar with the most legendary street ball courts and experiencing them first hand. Joycity even went one step further and made a point to interview and stay in contact with different street ball crews to get a real feel of how the characters and the game should play.
Speaking of characters, Joycity took another page out of the NBA Street franchise book and created special and custom characters for 3on3. Unlike NBA Street, which only had boss characters as the unique ones, 3on3 sports a whole cast of wacky, awesome and diverse characters. To help create said cast, their stories and the environment of the game, the team called on the talents of Evan Skolnick (former Marvel Comics Editor/Writer). The goal for the new cast of characters was for them to all be totally different from each other, with no two being the same.
3on3 is shaping up to be a monster of a game and a breath of fresh air for the sports genre that lost its creative backbone when EA Sports BIG closed its doors. For more about the game check out their website and expect 3on3 Freestyle to hit PS4 later in 2016.
WE ARE BACK!! You guys ready for a new CerebralCast?! T-minus 2 hours!

Affleck Gives Us Our First Look At Deathstroke in DCEU
Leave it to Batman to give us our first look at a major villain. Monday morning Ben Affleck AKA Batffleck posted a soundless but power 30 second clip on his various social media pages. That 30 second clip was our first look at the infamous mercenary Deathstroke!! Many questioned when we would see the titular DC Comics villain and we just got our answer. Well kind of. We know Justice League is currently filming in London, but we don’t know if we will see Deathstroke in JL or as a villain in the solo Batman movie that is currently in development with Affleck as the co-writer and director. Hell we don’t even know who is behind the mask yet! Many have speculated that Joe Manganiello will be playing Slade Wilson, while there is a rumor that Viggo Mortensen may be the multitalented merc. Watch the clip and board the hype train!

Marvel TV Prepared To Expand With The Runaways
Marvel Comics commitment to TV is as strong as ever. Daredevil season one and two were smash hits, Jessica Jones followed right behind it as a unexpected hit, Luke Cage hits Netflix this fall and Iron Fist isn’t far behind. Marvel’s plan to rule TV doesn’t just stop at Netflix. Agents of SHIELD will be returning for season 4 and changing time slots on ABC to allow for a darker story featuring the All New Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes. The next stop on Marvel’s TV tour is Hulu and with a new network comes a new property; Enter The Runaways.
The Runaways, created by Brian K Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, told the story of six teenagers that discover that their parents are secretly super villains. The Pride, the group of evil parents, are made up of crime bosses, aliens, mutants, time-travelers and dark wizards. Upon making this discovery the kids not only discover they themselves have powers but decide to runaway and take the fight to their parents. The original six include prodigy Alex Wilder, Nico Minoru (a powerful witch and current A-Force member), alien Karolina Dean, Gertrude Yokes (she has a telepathic link with a dinosaur…a DAMN dinosaur), Chase Stein (steals this father’s future tech) and Molly Hayes, a mutant with incredible strength.
Co-showrunners/Writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (The O.C., Gossip Girl) will be spearheading The Runaways journey to the small screen. Marvel TVs Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Luke Cage) and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil and Marvel’s Jessica Jones) will be executive producing with help from Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski.

Marvel’s CAGE Gets A Second Chance At Life
Since exploding on to the scene and busting down criminals in the 1970’s, Luke Cage aka Power Man has been a staple in Marvel comics for the last 40+ years. Cage’s importance to the Marvel DNA has taken different forms over the years. He has worked side by side with Iron Fist and Misty Knight in Heroes for Hire, is an active member of the Avenger and a member of the Defenders. But Cage’s next adventure will take him back to his roots.
The new Marvel comic aptly titled CAGE will see Luke Cage return to his classic moniker of Power Man. Written and illustrated by Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Lab, Samurai Jack), CAGE been 9 years in the making. Tartakovsky originally started the CAGE project for Marvel in 2007 and as his schedule got busier and busier, the comic fell to the wayside. With a new Luke Cage series headed to Netflix and the current on going Power Man and Iron Fist comic (written by David Walker), Cage has never been so popular. That popularity prompted both Tartakovsky and Marvel to mutually return to the series and take it out of development limbo.
Set in the 1970s, CAGE will be a 4 part miniseries that takes Power Man on a new adventure that features endless bellbottoms, big shows and even bigger chains. We can also expect to see 1970s versions of your favorite Marvel heroes in this series as well!!
Check out the Genndy Tartaovsky’s interview with Birth.Movies.Death about the new series.
Sweet Christmas!!! CAGE debuts this October!
