lmfao the Scots in town for the World Cup have made a pilgrimage to Boston's world-famous Cop Annihilating Slide
under US law, it's illegal for anyone who's not a member of a recognised native tribe to own an eagle feather. the penalty is a $100,000 fine.
14 years ago when I had recently moved to Alaska, I went hiking with an Aleut friend, and she pointed to a feather lying on the ground and said "hey that's a bald eagle tail feather, you should grab it!" and I was like "uhh I'm very white and that's very illegal" and she went "they're fuckin everywhere up here man. I have 20." so she grabs it off the ground and hands it to me and says "there, now it's a ceremonial gift from an indigenous person."
and I'm like, okay, cool, I guess this is how we do things in Alaska. nice.
so I keep this bald eagle tail feather around for years. display it in my home among other cherished memorabilia from places I've lived and visited, etc.
on a whim, I have just now looked it up. there is no exemption to that law for a ceremonial gift from an indigenous person. the last 7 years I lived in the US, I was technically a bald eagle poacher.
probably a good thing I don't intend to move back there anytime soon. I wonder what the statute of limitations is on bird crimes.
@freedomisscaryshit I'm fucking dying I think you forgot the word "feathers" in your tags?? or do you just wish you could grab whole ass eagles that land in your yard??
As an Indigenous person, it continues to astound me that there are such strict laws (written by White people) in our name, laws against...picking up things just found on the ground. Like, stop pretending this is "for" us. We don't want this.
so, for clarity, that's not what this is. the law against possessing feathers is an anti-poaching measure, derived from a North American treaty protecting certain migratory bird species from hunting. that treaty has an exemption for indigenous people to allow tribes that use eagle feathers in ceremonial or religious practices to continue doing so.
i used to collect feathers (illegally) as a teenager and the thing is that it's incredibly important for feathers from wild birds to be illegal to possess because it ensures that they never become fashionable to wear. the reason we passed the migratory bird act was because the american and european fashion industry was driving species to extinction in a timespan of years. not just decades. the ecological devastation of exporting birds for hats was absolutely insane and people were watching wetlands and forests and meadows just empty out in realtime. look at the wikipedia article for the plume trade.
the law against 'picking feathers up off the ground' means that you can't go shoot an eagle then sell the feathers on etsy by saying you 'just found them'. you can't own them no matter where they came from, which makes sure that they're not going to come from any birds killed and then secretly disposed of.
these laws, as harsh and ridiculous as they seem, saved flamingos, spoonbills, egrets, and all kinds of hawks and eagles from extinction. the minute these laws weaken and people can make money off killing them again, they're fucked.
this is one of those "no actually this regulation exists for a reason" laws much like work place safety and building fire codes (that Republicans keep trying to roll back) and is written in blood just like them as well. it's just not human blood this time, and the fact that people actually cared enough about long term future over short term profit to get it put in place is nothing short of astonishing. That it didn't get put in place in time to save several species is heart breaking.
A large part of the reason families were bigger in the past was because marital rape was not considered rape and birth control/abortion methods were ineffective, dangerous and/or illegal. We can dance around this and act like our great great great grandmothers just loveddddd being mamas so much that they decided out of their own free will to have 11 children. We can pretend that they DECIDED to have big families because it was a financially advantageous decision so they could have more labor around the farm. But a lot of children in the past were fundamentally unwanted and not conceived out of love, children were not a choice women got to make. We need to admit that and stop pretending historical women were inherently more maternal because they were impregnated at the age of 15 and kept having babies until they were 40. That did not make them loving mothers, it did not make them ‘the divine feminine’ and it sure did not make them happy.
i'm very tired
re ehrc guidance. which is not legally binding.
“should I do this for people of all ages?”
that's a very good addition actually, a solid "you want me to ask people's kids about their genitals? can i have that in writing?" should make upper echelons very uncomfortable.
If youre a closeted person somewhere out there thinking "I want to transition but it would be less progressive/unique/countercultural for me to be that gender instead of this one" please know that you are a real person not a character in a narrative and cant live your life based on what is good media representation. You are real you can only be yourself and theres no moral weight to any identity over another
Liberal transphobes enjoy positioning trans identities as regressive compared to cis queerness or like non-transitioning transness or anything else they can leverage to make transphobia look progressive and I think its easy to absorb that message subconciously. But in real life we just are what we are and no ranking of validity can change the fact that you have an identity that is NOT chosen and is just your unchangeable truth. Not only should you not have to live a life dictated by what is most countercultural to identify as or whatever but also: being trans is extremely countercultural and feminist and leftist to begin with and theyre only trying to convince you otherwise bc theyre bigots
"Why cant you be a feminine man society hates feminine men 🥺" and "all the butch lesbians are becoming men we need u 🥺" = stay in the closet for the noble purpose of being an abstract representation point in my new york times opinion column. You wont actually be a gnc cis person youll be a closeted trans person who uses the wrong words but I need you to do that because i hate you
[PHILOMENA CUNK IMPRESSION] The "et al." at the end of a sciencer's name on an academic journal is short for "et alters", which is so the rest of the system gets credited. Eventually, someone must've noticed that basically every journal had at least one system working inside it, an amount that seemed statistically unlikely — which is why they invented syscourse. In this episode, I will
Monster Hunter is great because most of the time, there's at least a pseudoscientific explanation for how this monkey can breathe fire. And then there's the Elder Dragons. Even the scientists in the Monster Hunter world are like "we have no idea what this is or how it functions." Imagine if real animals were like that.
"Ah yes, this is the Giant Anteater. It has large powerful claws and a long flexible tongue to assist it in hunting ants and termites. And this is the Orbital Deathdrake; it summons meteors sometimes and we're still not sure why or how."
Apparently my stepdad and I are fucking psychically linked because ?? every single time he makes chili for dinner I get a migraine. Without fail. And it became like a ha ha running joke because it happened so many times but now I’m living 3 hours away from my parents and I just texted my mom and

this is so much better i love it
Kevin is the kind of guy to have a fake ID to get into bars just for intel purposes. And to talk to butches about cars.
Honestly, Tvyek is pretty miraculous. It’s permeable to water vapor but not to water, it’s nearly impossible to tear, but can be easily cut. It’s cheap and made entirely without binding chemicals. In addition to being used for wristbands, it’s used to wrap construction sites to keep out water during construction, for tear-resistant envelopes at Fed-Ex, coveralls for mechanics, and my wallet, actually.
Fun tip, though it looks like paper, Tyvek is plastic, and cannot be recycled with paper.
holy fuc
I didn’t even know it had a name
you will describe tummy/waist fat as a "muffin top" (yummy treat?) and "love handles" (most romantic phrase ever?) and mean it in a derogatory way? when these things are obviously good?
I offer my sincerest condolences, and a chocolate bar 🍫
There's another reason that you shouldn't tell us that we're "lucky" we "don't have to deal with periods": its a constant reminder of our inability to have children.
If you recognize how monstrous it would be to tell a cis woman who has one of the myriad of conditions that cause them to be infertile and not have period cramps that she's "lucky" because of that, why can't you recognize that it's just as monstrous to tell trans women that for literally the same reason?
Ok!! Get ready for a pretty heavy rant
I for one do not want to carry a child but even so this is still true. Do not say the "you're lucky" thing to trans women in general when it comes to these subjects. That includes me, it's dysphoric as fuck. You wouldn't say it to a cis woman so why us? It's cruel and as the first comic shows, in many cases inaccurate. I've had multiple people in the past deny the fact that trans women could face any period symptoms or hormonal cycles despite me mentioning that science as well as a multitude of personal accounts have proved it. I haven't gotten to the cramps yet but I do have a hormonal cycle and it does cause various issues. I get headaches and feel exhausted constantly (even more than the chronic pain causes) during a portion of time a month. Whenever I'm dealing with these kinds of things I often want to spend all day in bed. I haven't started tracking it fully because i know as soon as i do I'll have this feeling of dread whenever i know it's near. It's legitimately horrid and I've had too many people deny its existence to be ok when I see other trans women have to deal with it. Folks feeling the need to make comics like the second one legitimately makes me unrationally angry because there shouldn't be that need but there is. Cis women who have said things like what the comic above shows, this is for you (and honestly cis people in general take note even though this is targeted for those specific cis women). We're women just like you and you should treat us as such. "Male socialization" isn't an actual thing, maternal instinct is not exclusive to cis women (I've actively seen it), and just because a woman wasn't born with the ability to have kids because she wasn't born with a uterus doesn't mean she wouldn't make a good parent. Seriously, sometimes certain people just need to shut up and listen to others experiences and actual science before making blanket assumptions. But no, i guess that's too much to ask when it's about trans people. Like seriously, grow the fuck up. It's 2026. You can do better cis people.
Now that the angry part is over. For trans women who have had that kind of things said to you. You didn't deserve that. The person was uneducated, bigoted or both. That's not a reflection of reality and if you get the chance and you want to, infertility doesn't stop you from being a good parent. Take it from the adopted gal. Of course make sure you're ready and healthy enough for the task, but once you are I'm certain you'll make an amazing mom.
Sending you all loads of hugs and hope you have a great rest of your day. Go about it with confidence in yourself
Signed,
The adopted trans gal who will chew out any asshole who says a trans woman can't be a good mom just because she's trans
the online identity and gimmick-ifying of autism is so odd. I'm diagnosed with autism and yet I barely identify with any stuff I see about it anymore. It feels like autism is being rebranded as the Silly Guy Disorder that gives you smart and beautiful hyperspecific interests. it's not that I mind silly jokes or being lighthearted about being autistic- but when the entire social movement is based around marketing us this way, I just can't help but feel isolated from it. it feels like I'm not the right kind of autistic. I'm not marketable and digestible to common audiences, and therefore I am discarded by the movement in the name of progress and acceptance. it feels foul.
