Caught myself spiraling and then remembered it's just my body not wanting to exist in these temperatures
hey so. don’t do this.
“coming from a place of respect” there is nothing respectful about a comment like this. this is exactly why I say witch hunt, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.
I am not saying “you’re an asshole if you think a fic is ai”. I have come across fics that I believe were ai-generated. but instead of asking (accusing) the authors, I make my own decisions whether I’ll continue reading for the benefit of the doubt or quietly exit the fics and look for something else to read.
because with every accusation like this, there’s always a chance of a genuine, innocent writer getting wrongly accused.
last but not least, fanfic writers do NOT owe you anything. they write for themselves and their own enjoyment. their ao3 accounts are their houses and they were kind enough to let you in their houses. for free. (you get to read things for free.) you don’t go into other people’s houses and tell them “actually I think the way you decorate your room is sus. did you actually do it yourself or did you ask a robot to do it for you?”. THEY 👏🏻 DON’T 👏🏻 OWE 👏🏻 YOU 👏🏻 ANYTHING. and I say this as someone who is not a fan of ai fics. if you don’t like what you’re seeing, quietly leave.
*the following is not about the fic in this specific post. in general, I still strongly believe people who let ai write for them should tag their works as ai accordingly. but if we want more people to be honest about it, we’ll have to stop shaming and harassing people who actually tag their ai-generated fics accordingly. harassment is never justified. not to mention, it will only make “ai writers” refrain from tagging their ai-generated works as such. and then there’s no way for anyone to know for absolute certainty if it’s ai. therefore the raise of witch hunt.
when you tell ai to write a fanfic it is literally trained based off the writing of genuine fanfic writers. so even if you do find a text that reads as a 100% ai generated, thats not accurate at all.
we as readers have the choice to read whatever we want and authors have the choice to write whatever and however (regardless of whether people agree with it or not) they want.
if you are uncomfortable with reading a fanfic that you think is written by ai, just drop it. better than insulting and/or demotivating an innocent author.
if you ever doubt that your ao3 comments matter or mean something: i have been struggling with my writing for 6 months straight, crying myself to sleep afraid that i will never be able to write again, that the thing i love most in the world has left me, that my writing is just gone
this morning i got this comment:
and after i stopped blubbering over it, i picked up my writing notebook, and re-read all my fic research, and opened up my document again for the first time in weeks without being afraid of it
you have no idea how much writers treasure every single comment we get. you have no idea how big an impact you can have. sometimes, just sometimes, your one "insignificant" comment changes everything
"But I don't like the ending/the character/the plot point. I would have done it differently."
Yes. Good. Go get a pen. This is where it begins.
if you use ai to generate a story you’re not creating the ai is.
if you use ai to generate a drawing you’re not creating the ai is
if you use ai to generate research/results you’re not working the ai is
stop losing basic cognitive functions to technology
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
Every single day this month has been like Okay sure. Okay sure what the hell. Okay sure. I guess
not now kitten, mommy needs to get up off her ass and overcome her fear of writing poorly because it's better than not writing at all.
if you struggle with writing unless it’s an essay that is due at 11:59 PM u should try our danger notes its the onlyway i can write without overthinking

I assure you: somebody, somewhere, is on the exact same wavelength as you are.
Marinette let out a dry laugh. “Right. Because I’m supposed to wait for an explanation when it’s the same thing all over again?”
“You assumed,” Adrien said, more firmly this time. “I was trying to stop you.”
That stung.
“Funny how that works when someone’s standing over your seat like they own it.”
“It was just a seat,” he said, a little sharper now.
“It was my seat.”
“She wasn’t doing anything. You didn’t even ask.”
“And you didn’t make it clear.”

Maybe the cup needs a bit of time to rest and refill?
Maybe the cup needs to lock the fuck in???
