I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this, but Keiko is NOT going to be the emotionally intelligent/mature one in the ds9 polycule. this is a woman who called of her own wedding because she panicked. not only that she made DATA tell her fiance that she was calling off the wedding. on the day of the wedding. the fun thing about the ds9 polycule is that none of them have the emotional intelligence and maturity to be in a polycule like that. embrace the chaos.

A TNG novel called "Resistance" by J.M. Dillard. It's set after the movies and also Voyager, so the borg are rebuilding after what Janeway did in endgame. You don't need to read the other books to understand what's happening in the story.

the sisko kirk hero worship homoeroticism would be entirely reversed if kirk ever showed up on ds9 thru his own time travel circumstances because the first thing that would happen is he would meet quark and the thing about kirk is there is nobody in the entire space and time of the universe that would annoy him more than quark it would immediately be like the worst day he ever experienced it would be like nonstop torment trying to understand why these things keep happening to him and then he would see sisko tactfully handling quark or god forbid see him getting quark to kiss the nagus scepter and like it would be over for him like sisko handling quark related paperwork would be the single most heroic thing hes ever seen like he would become immediately obsessed and bewitched

Not by any means an original thought but Kirk abandoning every person he's ever faintly loved or had feelings for for his career and his mission then repeatedly being like "it doesn't matter just fire me strip me of my command if I lose Spock I'll lose literally everything including my soul don't even worry about it" is immensely important to me

i think part of the problem with the way cultural differences are treated in star trek is that it seems like the federation is forever stuck on generation i of cultural integration and never reaches generation ii. it can imagine a world where having parents from very different backgrounds (or cross-cultural adoption, marrying someone from a different culture, etc) is a source of angst and identity struggles but not one where that’s so normalized it’s basically unremarkable. which i think stems in part from a general lack of imagination on the part of those from culturally homogeneous areas in terms of conceptualizing what multiculturalism can look like, but as a certified toronto mans it feels weird to me that from spock to worf to b’elanna we never see any movement on that front in the federation’s cultural norms
