This is my first Thanksgiving spent away from my family and it’s kinda weird but I’m also kinda enjoying not having to get all dressed up for some big dinner. I’ll definitely miss my mom’s cooking, though. Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving!

I'd say the first Thanksgiving without family is always the hardest, but I’ve only spent two away from them so far, so I’m actually not really sure if that’s really true. I hope you still had a great evening, though? Did you celebrate with friends?

I totally did it. I finally put up my Christmas decorations. I couldnt think of a better way to hang the lights so I kinda just used tape… hopefully that doesn’t wreck nothing.

But I found this super cool sweater with Yoda on it! I can’t wait to wear it.

Putting up Christmas decorations is honestly one of my favourite moments of the year, and after hearing this I think I might start putting them up tomorrow... I’m sure your place looks amazing! And I need a Yoda Christmas sweater too now. Or maybe one with BB8. You should totally wear it wherever you go from now on.

I’m ashamed of saying this, but I spent my entire Saturday binge watching How To Get Away With Murder and eating chocolate chip cookies I spontaneously baked because of a fleeting craving. Days off are clearly not great for me. What’s everyone else’s weekend been like?

Please don’t feel ashamed! That honestly sounds like the perfect Saturday to me. We all need some lazy time every now and then, after all. That’s what days off are for! My weekend has been pretty great. I went skiing, had the most amazing massage and spent most of the remaining time watching Netflix as well, actually.

resort information:

1. How long have you been working/attending the resort?

This is my first time back in six years, but I used to spend almost every winter here for the first 18 years of my life.

2. What is it about the resort that intrigued you to vacation/work here?

Well, take a look around. The resort and its surroundings are absolutely gorgeous, and I just have so many good memories of this place. I was looking for a change of scenery, and the resort was the first place that came to mind. My parents were the one who originally decided to come here, though, as I was just a kid back then.

3. What have you enjoyed the most since arriving here?

I’ve only been here for a few days, so I can’t say I’ve got much to tell you just yet, but what I’ve really enjoyed so far is how friendly and relaxed everyone seems to be. People actually take the time to say hi and smile at you, maybe even have a little chat, which is so different from New York where everyone’s always in a hurry. I already feel more relaxed than I did before I got here.

4. What have you enjoyed the least since arriving here?

I haven’t had a single unpleasant experience here so far.

5. What are you looking forward to doing during your stay?

The whole Snowmass experience, really! I’m excited to explore Aspen again, to get back on my skis and board (although I really need some lessons before I try the latter...), go ice skating, to just sit on the porch and relax while I enjoy the view... I’m also really excited to be reunited with Sugar, and I can’t wait to spend some time with her.

6. Are there any people that you have become friendly with?

Sugar and I go way back, but apart from her, not really anyone in particular yet. I’ve had the chance to talk to a few of the staff members, though, who were all incredibly friendly so far.

7. Are there any people that you have grown to dislike?

None so far! And I hope it will stay that way.

8. What is the best activity that the resort offers?

The first thing that comes to mind right now is getting a massage, but that’s just my body telling me I really need one after doing 8 shows a week. Apart from the obvious activities, I’d say the Coaster is a lot of fun. Especially when you can ride it at night during Ullr Nights celebrations.

9. Is there anything you’d like to add/remove or change about the resort?

I can’t really think of anything right now.

10. What are you hoping to achieve during your time/stay at the resort?

I hope I can clear my head a little and just relax, and maybe make some new friends.

Oh yeah, it would suck to hate what I did. Why do it then, right? No, I’ve actually never been to Aspen before I saw the job opening here. I’m from Vermont and have been skiing most of my life there. Are you going to take lessons before you try again or thinking of just strapping on skis or a board and hitting the slopes? How long has it been since you were here? I know you said since you moved out.

Exactly! Vermont? That isn’t exactly around the corner either, but it must’ve prepared you for life in the mountains here. I’m sure it’s a great place for skiing as well. I think I’m just going to start slow on skis and see if I still know what I’m doing. I was only half-decent as a kid, at best, but I definitely feel more comfortable on skis. If I want to try snowboarding again I’m certainly going to need some lessons. It’s been six years, so quite a while.

Nice to meet you too. I’m the resort’s handyman. Got anything wrong with your chalet or room, you let someone know and they’ll send me your way. It’s awesome especially since I ski. It’s like vacation on my days off. And the guests aren’t too bad! I’ve found them all to be pretty cool. You must know this mountain like that back of your hand! That’s cool you’ve been coming up for so long. Definitely do, dude. I’m not a great singer but I don’t mind hopping on the mic after a drink or two.

It’s definitely good to know who I can go to for help if something breaks. And that sounds perfect! It’s so important to have a job you enjoy. Did you use to come here as a guest before you started working here? I have to admit that I was never that great at skiing or snowboarding, but I’m really excited to give it another try. But yes, I do. Although I’m sure there have been some changes around here, as it’s been quite a while. Oh, and the most important thing about karaoke is having fun anyway, so I’m sure you’ll do fine.

You’re not wrong about that -- six years, to be exact. It’s nice to meet you too, Tina! And I’m so glad to hear karaoke is still a thing. There... have been some changes in my life recently, so I just really needed a change of scenery. Living in New York City is amazing, but I can’t hear myself think sometimes, so I really felt like going somewhere more quiet where I can just think and relax for a little while. Aspen seemed like the perfect place to go, especially because I’m so familiar with it already.

It’s nice to meet you, Ryder! What kind of job do you have? This must be a pretty cool place to work, apart from the occasional snobs that you undoubtly have to deal with from time to time. But yes, I am! It’s my first time back since I moved out, but I used to come here almost every year as a kid with my family. So it’s pretty exciting to be back; a litlte nostalgic even.
