Brand New Day huh?
hi i rly liked brand new day
I rewatched the tom holland Spider-Man movies to prep for brand new day and I like how Peter progressively gets more and more comfortable with violence/death towards his main villains as the movies go on. Kinda shows his decaying mental state over the years.
In homecoming he’s actively trying to save vulture and pulls him out of the explosion caused by his wings. In far from home he doesn’t hurt mysterio but he doesn’t do anything to help him once he’s been shot and just watches him die. In no way home he actively tries to kill green goblin until tobey stops him.
Then in brand new day he’s pretty violent throughout the whole movie. He doesn’t want to kill anyone but he almost does because of his mutation evolving. Then in the end he pushes himself out of that and takes a bullet for Jean. It feels like a return to how he felt in the first movie, he wants to go back to being the good hero who saves everyone instead of how jaded he’s become. I wonder if the next two movies will follow a similar pattern to the home trilogy or if he’ll break away from that.
there's something so special to me about ned, who always seems to be sidelined by the writers for peter and mj, being the one to remember peter before even mj could. the way he was trying to unmask spiderman for himself, the way it felt like he needed to find him, and the way it was still muscle memory for their handshake, the handshake that triggered the memories. heck i really do feel like the movie was setting up for ned to remember the whole time.
anyway welcome back ceo, and welcome back my favorite platonic soulmates :)
what absolutely makes the end of brand new day for me, with ned remembering and recognizing peter, is that … it’s so in character. like jean says it earlier, mj would be sick at the idea of a perfect fairytale kiss waking the princess up ooh so cute BLEGH!! she would hate that. ned, on the other hand? ned would LOVE the idea that they broke the spell and got his memories back by doing their super special best friend handshake, ned would love the whole fairytale magical remembering thing, he would just be all over that.
idc frank castle realising he had charged in to fight the hulk and then trying so hard to get out of it was peak comedy to me
And yes found family Jean Grey and Peter Parker is never going to leave my mind they are siblings now.
What do you mean he let her into his mind so the memory of his aunt could comfort her when he couldn’t and than took a bullet for a girl he knew was hurting as much as he was?
What do you mean she stayed by his side using her powers to keep him alive in the room where her sister was killed despite the danger because she couldn’t bare to lose him too?
Siblings.
Yelena asking Peter if he was bisexual was not on my bingo card😭😭😭😭
funniest bnd moments in no particular order
full shot of peter’s toes in the tub (best experienced on the largest screen near you)
an extra going “no that can’t be spiderman” right as peter steps out of the hospital (its quiet but i swear its there)
peter watching the film about spiders’ life cycles in absolute silence and disgust
walking out of the elevator in juicy couture sweatpants
“i’ve narrowed it down to two prime suspects” pans to flash and mr. harrington
peter refusing to take his mask off both in the spa and while drinking coffee
yelling his ass off coming in swinging on organic webs “sorry im late ive had a really rough day”
In its right place
i firmly believe that one of the reasons tumblr latched onto project hail mary so hard is because we're all so obsessed with the dead wife trope lately and grace is his own dead wife. half of the book/film is grace experiencing a dead wife montage about himself and that's beautiful to me
It is really, really funny that the new Spider-man movie decided to solve the "why is this one vigilante kid the only person in a world of superheroes tackling this threat" problem by stating that it's because Yelena Belova is currently in charge of deciding what rises to an Avengers-level threat and she mostly decides based on vibes. Immaculate. No notes.
Remember in Thunderbolts when Yelena confessed to Alexei that she felt so alone and drepressed. That the only things she was able to do was going to work, stare at her phone and think about all the bad things she has done.
In the intro the Brand New Day we see Peter going full SpiderMan mode (working), stalking Ned on his social media (staring at his phone) and constantly visiting May's grave (thinking about the bad things he has done).
Black Widows were trained to easily read people, so the moment Peter walked into Yelena's "office" she clocked the same depression that tormented her for so long. Her comment about him being a "sad man" wasn't thrown randomly, she knew that it was true.
That is why she was geniuly happy when she saw him with friends; because it was having friends what ended up saving her and she truly believed that it could save Peter too. She was right.
spiderman brand new day and the importance of care. mj not loving peter due to not knowing him, but still caring about him enough to invite him up, to draw him, to send frank to watch him, to give him advice and be concerned. ned not remembering what spiderman means to him, but trying to find him anyway to thank him. frank worrying about this kid who is determined to save everybody he possibly could. peter caring about jean grey, taking a bullet for her despite almost all his interactions with her being antagonistic, because she exists, and she deserves so much better. jean crying over peter getting shot, because he was kind and promised to be there for her and made good on that promise immediately, even though she ended up there because of him. new york and their care for spidey.
peter parker and his care for everybody- his family, his friends, people he has never met, people who have continually tried to hurt him.
spiderman: brand new day and the importance of care of any kind.
straight white people making a romance movie: haha what if it was illegal to have sex? wait what's lawrence v texas. wait what's mclaughlin v florida. wait what's loving v virginia
Spider-Man: Brand New Day said it'll be hard and it'll be ugly and you'll essentially feel like it's so over but in the end love will save your soul and friendship and hope will prevail and we're so back and millions of teenagers worldwide said hell fucking yeah
