Daisy - What would they want to do for a first date?

I can see Mathias offering a group date for a first date. He is with you, Berwald with Timo, and one or two other couples. He'd likely want to do something more chill and laidback, but still fun and entertaining. Probably a game night where each person brings a childhood favorite game. Or perhaps a movie night, where everyone votes on what you're all going to watch. Or maybe you all go to an arcade together and challenge one another to beat each other's high scores. Mathias knows he can be a lot and hopes a group date will be a good way to dive into dating, whilst making sure you're comfortable.

Forget-me-not - What are the little things he does for you? What little things does he notice about you?

Mathias gives you little compliments here and there to lift your spirits and boost your confidence. It may seem a little superficial at first, but he goes out of his way to compliment aspects of you he genuinely loves. Your hair, your skin, your outfit, the adorable way you yawn each morning as you wake up, etc. Mathias didn't get a lot of praise growing up, so he wants you to feel confident in your own skin. He also likes to do little chores around the house here and there. Not only to make your life easier, but also because he likes to feel needed. As for the little things he notices about you, he takes special notice of your hair. He can't explain it, but something about your hair is so pretty and wonderful to him. The way the light bounces off your beautiful locks will occasionally make him stop and stare for a moment or two. <3

Eucalyptus - What helps calm them down when stressed or overwhelmed?

Mathias is the kind of man who needs to vent his stress through aggression. Because of this, his usual go-to for stress relief is to work out. Lifting weights, running laps, etc. But his primary way to blow off steam is to go completely ham on a punching bag. Throwing his fists into the fabric at a rapid pace, with such intensity you'd think the bag itself was what was stressing him out. Afterward, he'd want to cuddle and start talking about what's on his mind. Depending on how sweaty he is, however, you may want to ask him to take a shower first.

Gypsophilia - Do they contemplate marriage? Would they ever want to get married? How would they propose?

100% yes, no doubt about it. Mathias often dreams about the day you two potentially tie the knot. He'd love nothing more than to be a husband and father and would happily ask you to be his wife and the future mother of his children. As for how he'd propose, I can actually see him trying to make it sweeter and more intimate. Mathias is a very extroverted and social man, so proposing in a secluded location would be a little out of the norm for him, but still appreciated, nonetheless. Mathias would want to take you hiking somewhere in the mountains. Once at the summit (or some other higher-up location) where the two of you have the most stunning view, he'll finally drop to one knee, take out a ring, and pop the question. It's all very sweet and romantic.

Buttercup - How do they feel about children? Would they want any? What kind of parent would they be?

Mathias adores children. Yeah, they can be chaotic, but frankly? So can he. They are fun, sweet, innocent, and full of life and energy. Mathias wants to have a big family with you and would want as many children as possible. That being said, he'll resign himself to as many as you are comfortable having. He'd even be open to adopting children and doing foster care. Mathias acts like he was born to be a dad. And that's probably because he was. He'd be an incredibly active parent, happily playing with the kids every day he gets home from work. Lifting them upon his shoulders and parading around the front lawn, tickling them until their sides hurt from laughing, singing them lullabies at night, etc. That isn't to say he wouldn't be hard on them from time to time. When they purposely misbehave, he's not opposed to setting them in the corner for a timeout. Or even grounding them, should the offense be severe. So, in short, he'd be a pretty dang good dad.

Lily - How do they feel about PDA?

Oh, Francis is all for it. Handholding, kissing, dancing, leaning against one another in a form of borderline cuddling, etc. He won't do anything too crazy, such as full-on cuddling or making out. That's a bit much, even for him. Those more intimate displays are to be reserved for behind closed doors. He will also be mindful of your boundaries. If anything, there's a chance he asked you about your thoughts on PDA before trying any of this in public.

Wisteria - What are their kisses like? Sweet? Soft? Intense? etc.

Amazing. Yes, it's probably cliché for the country of love. But you can't tell me this man isn't an A+ kisser. He holds you close, his gaze flicking between your lips and eyes as though asking permission. Once it is granted, he presses his lips to yours. Kisses from Francis take your breath away. They are warm, passionate, long, and lingering. His kisses leave a tingling sensation on your lips, tempting you with a craving for more. Once breathless, he'll pepper your face with little, butterfly-like kisses. Truly incredible. <3

Amaranth - Do they believe in true love at first sight? Or that genuine true love must be cultivated over time?

For him, it's a mix of both. Yes, Francis believes in love at first sight. He believes that God will place certain people in your life for certain reasons, and for one of those people, it is to be your one and only. Your soul mate. However, he also deeply values the building of a relationship. Yes, true love can be found the second two people lock eyes. But he also believes strongly that the trueness of this love needs to be tested and proved by actively dating and establishing a relationship.

Eucalyptus - What helps calm them down when stressed or overwhelmed?

Francis isn't a heavy smoker, but he's not opposed to having a light after a particularly long and stressful day. He'll drag his feet through the front door, make his way to the parlor, and—without so much as a single word—allow his body to drop onto the couch with all his weight. With his head hanging back, he reaches towards the side table without even looking. Taking a hold of a pack of cigarettes, he takes one out, sets the pack aside, fishes around in his pocket for his lighter, and off he goes. Taking a deep breath, you can almost see the stress slowly exiting his body. As affectionate and clingy as he is, Francis is one of those people who actually needs to be left alone when he's stressed or overwhelmed. Rarely will he reach out, wanting someone to vent to. But for the most part, it's best to leave him be and talk to him later.

Forget-Me-Not - What are the little things he does for you? What little things does he notice about you?

It may be cliché, but Francis is all about cute little gifts and love notes. Soooo many love notes, typically accompanied by either a rose or one of your favorite flowers. Francis loves to place these little envelopes at random places around your home and place of work—generally in areas that you're likely to pass by on your daily routine. In your vanity, in the fridge, on your desk, windowsill, etc. Francis adores how gentle you are with others, both in your words and actions. The tender way you brush back his hair, the way you gingerly drink your coffee each morning, the way you interact with children. The list can go on and on. Regardless, it is this tenderness that attracted him to you in the first place. And it is this tenderness that keeps him falling for you every day.

Lavender - How are they when the two of you sleep together? Not in a sexual way, but rather, what are their sleeping habits?

Francis is fabulous 24/7. And that kind of beauty doesn't just happen naturally, you know? Oh no, this man has a full-on skin and hair care routine. And he follows it every. Single. Night. Man has a whole shelf in the bathroom dedicated to every single product he uses to keep himself looking as incredible as possible. And you know what? He'd happily let you join him. If anything, he'd actually encourage it, seeing it as a great bonding activity. This routine will happen every evening before he retires to bed. As for when the two of you are in bed together, Francis wants to be touching you in some way or another. It can be as close and intimate as lying close with your limbs tangled together (not like that, get your head outta the gutter), to simply holding your hand, his thumb softly running over the back of your palm. He'll also insist on a goodnight kiss before the two of you fall asleep.

Tansy - How hard would they fight for you? Are they willing to make concessions to keep you? Would they let you go for the greater good? Or are they ready and willing to let the world burn?

As with the other Hetalia characters, this depends on which version of the character we're referring to. As the active personification of France, Francis will do his best to keep the relationship private. After all, enemies are around every corner. And he'd be damned if he let anything happen to you. However, it should be noted that the characters cannot largely disobey their current boss. And at the end of the day, loyalty typically wins out. If his boss told him to cease the relationship, Francis would suddenly be torn between love and duty. Between his overwhelming love for you and his everlasting loyalty to his people. Don't get me wrong, this man will fight like Hell to keep you. Even to the point of outright arguing with his boss, devolving into a full-on screaming match in front of his men. The harder he fights for you, the more dignity is thrown out the window. But at the end of the day, he'd be forced to sacrifice the relationship. Will he be happy about it? Not at all. If the two of you can keep the relationship going in secret, he'd certainly take that route. But if things really heat up politically, he'd reluctantly let you go for the sake of your safety. As for Francis in a human au, this man would definitely fight tooth and nail for you. No doubt about it, this dramatic man would be willing to let the world burn for you. No question.

Veronica - How loyal and devoted are they? How would they prove it to you?

Loyal and devoted to a fault, to a point where he may be willing to throw others under the bus for you (though only in the most extreme and pressing circumstances). He'll be your number one hype man, the one on your side, no matter what happens. If the entire world were to turn against you, he'd be there.

Feverfew - How do they act when they are sick?

Sadik is one of those lucky people who rarely ever get sick. But when he does, oh boy, is it bad. The man is shivering, sniffling, sneezing, and coughing all at once. He'll be dealing with body aches so bad he can barely move. Oh, he'll try to take care of himself. But the usually strong and independent man is rendered helpless in this state. Though it pains him and his pride, he'll have no choice but to stay in bed to get better, as well as accept any and all help you are able and willing to provide. Be gentle with him. <3

Lavender - How are they when the two of you sleep together? Not in a sexual way, but rather, what are their sleeping habits?

Sadik doesn't have the most regimented sleep schedule, instead choosing to go to bed whenever. Though you can get him to go to bed earlier with a little... Persuasion😏. The guy also likes to sleep shirtless, typically in nothing more than his boxer shorts, stating it's more comfortable. Another aspect of this is that he likes having skin-to-skin contact with you as he tries to sleep. He finds it helps him fall asleep faster and longer. As for sleeping position, he likes to be the big spoon. But if he's really tired and just flops down into bed, he's content with you snuggling up onto his chest.

Marigold - Are they empathetic, or do you need to tell them what's going on? Are they able to tell something is up just by looking at you?

While Sadik can be empathetic if you tell him what's going on, it's literally just that. He typically can't tell unless you tell him. The guy just doesn't pick up on these kinds of things. And the only time he can tell something is up by looking at you is if you are actively crying or shaking. Aside from that, you need to speak up.

Periwinkle - How would they react if you died?

If you died, Sadik would frighten literally every person he knows by going quiet. Unnervingly quiet. He'd shut himself up in his home and/or at work for days on end, refusing to speak to or see anyone. To distract from the pain, he throws himself into his work, pushing himself to the point of exhaustion. Because if he has something to constantly keep himself busy, he doesn't have to think of or deal with the pain. Or, at least, that's what he thinks. But that doesn't take away from the agony of those occasional, silent moments alone, where he is forced to sit and face the cruel reality that you are gone. And worse yet, that he couldn't save you. The only way for Sadik to heal is, of course, to finally take the time to process what happened. As well as find a way to healthily work through his grief. But the only way he'll do this is if a close friend can break him out of this mindset and help him face reality.

Ursinia - Do they trust easily, or not? How long would it take to earn their trust? And if trust is broken in the relationship, how can it be fixed, if possible?

Alright, let's get one thing straight. The Hetalia characters have been through a lot. And I mean a lot. And Gilbert is no exception. When you've lived through so much history, there's a good chance you've been betrayed a time or two before. And Gilbert is no exception. Would he trust you to be loyal in a relationship? Absolutely. I mean, you're with him of all people, aren't you? Why would you look at anyone else? But as for overall trust, that being, trusting you with his deepest secrets, and to be there for him when he's at his most vulnerable? That is going to take some time. At least six months, or at the most, a solid year. Gilbert doesn't trust too easily, but it can be earned. If you break his trust, that will most likely mark the end of the relationship. Unless the two of you are in a very long-term relationship. With this, he may be open to trusting again, but it'll take a long while to rebuild that bridge.

Buttercup - How do they feel about children? Would they want any? What kind of parent would they be?

Gilbert finds children both entertaining and inspiring. In them, he sees the hopes of the future. As a retired nation, he even enjoys going into schools to give kids history presentations or giving them tours around museums. All while he rambles on and lectures them about their forefathers. Unlike his brother, Gilbert actually really likes children and wouldn't mind being a father. He'd be content with at least two, but he'd be perfectly happy with three if possible. Though having more than three might be pushing it a little for him (and you). Similar to his brother, however, Gilbert would have some pretty strict rules for the children to follow. He wants them to become model citizens, after all. Functional and contributing members of society. However, this doesn't mean he's opposed to being soft with his children on occasion. He'd be the kind of dad to let his children crawl up on his lap after a long day at work, holding them close as he asks them about their day. He'd be especially soft if the two of you had a daughter. He adores the idea of a little you running around the house.

Morning Glory - How would they handle unrequited love? Would they eventually get over it? Or would they be left pining forever?

As seen in the series, Gilbert is no stranger to the pain of unrequited love. And again, as we see in the series, he's nothing but persistent. Now, let's get one thing clear: the man isn't going to stalk you. However, he will keep showing up at your place of work, at your church, and occasionally where you are known to hang out with friends. He'll keep trying to talk to you and get to know you better. If you're single, he'll be extra persistent and ask you out multiple times. However, if you're in a relationship, he wouldn't be as pushy and wouldn't dare to ask you out either. He loves you, but he's not about to step in on another man's woman. Now, will he get over it? It's possible, though it may take a long time. Especially if the two of you already have an established friendship, wherein you turned him down but still wanted to maintain the bond. Gilbert wouldn't be left pining forever, but it'll certainly take him some time to get over you and find someone else.

Daisy - What would they want to do for a first date?

As much as Gilbert would like to take you hiking for a first date, he understands why, for many women, this is considered a giant red flag. Especially if the two of you have only recently met and don't know each other well. I can see him taking you to an indoor trampoline park, especially when there are no scheduled events. But if you aren't able to do so, or aren't a very athletic person, he'd be content with walking around town, window shopping, and simply talking. At the end of the day, as long as the two of you are getting to know one another, that's all that matters.

Dahlia - How do they say thank you? How do they show their appreciation for you?

Normally, Gilbert will just come right out and say it. Just as he desires to be told he is important to someone, he wants to let you know in the same way. Yes, he may show up with a bouquet of flowers once in a blue moon. Or even take you on a fancy date to show his gratitude. But at the end of the day, he wants to get the message across how much you mean to him. While not as awkward as his younger brother, he'll still find ways to say how much he loves and appreciates you. Another, far quieter way he'd show his gratitude is by clearing time in his schedule to spend time with you. This would especially be true back when he was still the active personification of Prussia and would've had a hectic schedule to keep track of. Making time for you in the midst of chaos is a quiet way to show he cares.

I just HAVE to ask, how do you personally do character analysis/research? Like how do you get them so accurately??

Aww, thank you so much!! I'm so glad you enjoy my work!! <3

When it comes to writing the characters, I try not to write when I'm too tired or when I'm burned out. I like to sit back and really think about how the characters are represented in the show and comics, and work from there. As a writing exercise, I like to really sit back and consider how they'd react to certain aspects and scenarios.

It also helps that the Hetalia characters are quite fun to write for, seeing as they each have very distinct personalities that vary widely, from completely deadpan to over-the-top exuberant.

Azalea - How affectionate are they? Are they super cuddly, or a bit more closed off?

Ludwig isn't the most affectionate in public, typically sticking with letting you hold his arm or placing a hand on your knee while you're out somewhere. Occasionally, he'll wrap an arm around you if you find yourselves in a potentially dangerous situation. However, once you two are home, that's the place he'll let his guard down. Ludwig is a bit touch-starved, and this will certainly manifest in your more private moments. He'll sometimes hug you from behind while you're in the kitchen, resting his head on yours as he inquires as to what you're making. He'll also give you a peck on the cheek both when he heads out and a kiss on the lips when he gets home. He's a bit awkward when it comes to asking to cuddle, preferring to find an opening when you're sitting on the couch or lying in bed. He likes lying his head on your chest, snaking his arms around your waist whilst listening to your heartbeat. And he positively adores it when you run your fingers up and down his back, tracing little circles around his shoulder blades.

Comfrey - How do they act when you are sick?

Eucalyptus - What helps calm them down when stressed or overwhelmed?

Going hand-in-hand with the answer for azalea, Ludwig will prefer physical affection when stressed. Specifically laying down with you running your fingers through his hair and up and down his back. It feels as though you're literally pulling the stress out of him. If you pay attention, you can feel the muscles on his back slowly begin to loosen. Bonus points if you mumble a sweet, simple "Ich liebe dich" in the mix.

Periwinkle - How would they react if you died?

Complete. Mental. Shutdown. At first, Ludwig freezes. It's like the entire world has suddenly stopped turning. His blood runs cold. His vision goes blurry. He can barely think. It almost seems as though he can't even feel. Shock washes over his entire being, leaving him numb and speechless. After the initial shock has worn off—which really won't completely go away until after the funeral—he'll get straight to work. Ludwig is another one of those guys who will throw himself headfirst into constant work in an effort to distract himself from the pain. He'll even work himself into a metaphorical early grave if someone isn't there to help him sit down and face reality. The mourning process will be long and difficult. And the only thing that hurts more than the fact that you are no longer by his side is the fact that he couldn't save you.

Snowdrop - What would they like to do if you're snowed in?

Ludwig sees a snow day as a perfect opportunity to get some work done around the house. This results in him happily dragging you into helping out with a deep clean of the house. Scrubbing baseboards, cleaning out the dishwasher and oven, deep cleaning the carpets, cleaning sheets, etc. If you're someone who doesn't mind cleaning, this can actually be a pretty fun, low-key day. Especially if the two of you can agree on a cleaning playlist. Or perhaps even listen to one of your favorite comedians while scrubbing.

Alfred is a sweetheart, but the guy is absolutely not above teasing the heck out of you when he picks up on what you're doing. He may be a little dense, but he's no fool in this regard. If you place your hand on his, he'll immediately shoot you a smirk. One that makes you wonder what's going on behind those deep, blue eyes. If your hand rests on his arm, he'll give you a knowing, cocky grin. "You lost, little lady?" He'll lean in, wondering if this is the right time to make a bold move and try to kiss you. Though very much aware of what you are doing, Arthur will purposely feign ignorance for the sake of seeing if he can frustrate you. He finds it amusing. If you shoot him a flirty look, he'll lean in towards you as if for a kiss, only to ask if he has something in his teeth. If you place a hand on his, he'll simply ask if your hands are cold. Afterward, he'll take your hand in both of his to warm it up. All with a ridiculous smirk on his face. It takes everything he has not to chuckle when he sees how red your face gets. Is Arthur a gentleman? Yes, absolutely. But that won't stop him from choosing to deliberately mess with you, especially if the two of you already have an established friendship. Hey, Alfred had to get it from somewhere, right?

France

Not only does Francis immediately pick up on what you are doing, but he will do the same back to you. You give him a sweet, longing look? He'll respond with a wink, his gaze flicking between your eyes and lips. You move closer to him? He'll lazily drape an arm around your shoulders. You place a hand on his arm? He'll reach out and grab your hand, possibly even ghosting a faint kiss along your knuckles. Man knows what he's doing. ;) He wants to see how much longer this will go before one of you snaps and begins to passionately make out with the other. Or ask the other out on a date. You know, one or the other. Or perhaps both?

China

He finds it a little silly, to be honest. He'd rather someone skip the frivolities and instead say what they are feeling outright. Yao would likely roll his eyes at such gestures, coming across as bored and aloof—possibly even annoyed. Though the redness on his cheeks says otherwise, betraying any sense of irritation. No, under the surface, he secretly enjoys these little shows of affection. But without being in an established relationship, he's a little uncertain how to respond. Especially if such a scene is being played out in public. In private, however, he may feel more inclined to respond. Giving you a curious glance from the corner of his eye, as though challenging you to move further. At some point, he may finally snap and outright ask you out. How this plays out afterward is up to you.

Germany

Absolute blushing mess. The way you look at him across the room prompts his heart to start hammering in his chest. When the two of you talk later, the way your hand ghosts over his hand or arm leaves him wondering if you're just being quirky or if you're genuinely looking for something more. I mean, he thinks it's flirting. But what if it isn't? Sorry to be potentially boring here, but Ludwig is the kind of man where subtle flirting such as this won't totally work. If anything, the man may come out of the interaction more confused and anxious than ever. If you're interested in this man, you gotta just come right out and say it.

Japan

He won't pick up on it at first, but if you keep at it, he'll eventually tune in to what you're doing. His response would actually be quite similar to Yao's, in that he won't initially respond, especially if it's in public. However, in private, Kiku will be a little more receptive, though a blushing mess all the same. At the end of the day, he's more partial to simply holding hands and nothing more, and he'd try to keep it that way for the time being.

Italy

Feliciano would be fairly quick to pick up on what you're doing. And instead of simply just flirting back, the man will straight up ask you out right there on the spot. While certainly skilled in the art of flirtation, once he gets wind that his beloved little crush may be taking a shine to him, he'd like to expedite the process. "Tell me, bella, would you fancy a date with me? Just the two of us?" He asks as he takes your hand, amber eyes staring straight into yours. And while he doesn't mean to embarrass you, Feliciano can't help but adore the way your face goes red the second he asks this question.

Seamus is actually quite fond of children and finds them to be delightful. He sees children as simultaneously sweet and innocent yet full of potential. In short, he finds them quite fascinating. Not to mention this guy is pretty goofy himself, and has a pretty active inner child. As a result, it's easier for him to understand and connect with them. All this is to say, Seamus would love to be a father. This man would definitely want to have a family. Partially because he loves children, but also because he wants to build the family he felt he never had, yet always wanted. As for the number of children, he'd want as many as you'd be comfortable having. Preferably more than three. Seamus would be a pretty hands-on parent. He'd be the kind of dad who likes to play and roughhouse with the kids as soon as he gets home from work. He'd take you and the kids on fun outings once in a while. With sons, he'd be all about getting them to work with him outside doing yardwork and other forms of labor. With daughters, he'd be the kind of dad who'd happily sit there with a pink, feathery boa during teatime. Regardless of gender, however, Seamus would absolutely be the kind of dad to take the kids out of the house to do something super reckless and fun behind your back!😂 Overall, Seamus would go out of his way to be a present and accessible father to yours and his children.

For Seamus, it would have to be your personality. Your personality is both strong and boisterous, yet also soft and sweet. He likes someone who can go shot-for-shot with him at the pub, give a good hearty laugh, and keep up with him on the dance floor. But he also appreciates how gentle you can be in your more private, intimate moments. How you are when someone is in need and don't hesitate to lend a hand. He was drawn to you the second he ran into you at a pub. Introduced by a mutual friend, he saw the way you moved and navigated the scene and was instantly drawn to you. And the way you responded to and cared for a girlfriend who had just a little too much to drink? The way you tended to her and kept her safe? That was the moment he started to see you in a different light.

Marigold - Are they empathetic, or do you need to tell them what's going on? Are they able to tell that something is up just by looking at you?

It's a bit of a hit-or-miss with Seamus. While you can't expect the guy to read minds, he can usually tell if you're having a bad day. Particularly if the two of you get to talking. After a little bit of idle, back-and-forth chatter, he'll pick up on changes in your tone and curt, one-to-two-word answers. It's at this point he'll ask if something is going on.
