“Dr. Grace, please join me in my office,” Stratt called from downstairs.
I sighed as I attempted to pull my hair into a messy bun. This did not work because I am short haired so I covered my head with a beanie. I attempted to find a mirror to look at myself in but couldn’t because I am in an office building. It didn’t matter, though. I already knew how plain and unassuming my dirty blonde hair, crystal blue eyes and beautiful man face made me look.
“Dr. Grace, did you hear me?” Eva called again. I grumbled as I slid down the stairs.
Eva Stratt was sitting on her desk with her arms and legs crossed.
“Have a seat,” she beckoned, “surely you must be aware of why I summoned you here tonight.”
I strode over to the desk and leaned above the chair. I knew I wasn't doing a good job at hiding the fact that I was slightly annoyed at being interrupted from what I was doing. It was the middle of the day, I had stuff to do! And surely Stratt has even more important stuff to do being dictator and all. She stared at me with her piercing blue orbs like a hawk.
“So here’s the situation,” she began, “there’s no easy way of saying this but the Petrova Taskforce has run out of money.”
“What?” I exclaimed, “I thought we had access to the funds of every government!”
“We did until you spent them all on twizzlers,” she sighed.
“Anyways, in order to ensure the mission is financially stable moving forward, I am selling you to one direction,” she explained.
“WHAT?” I gasped, “you can’t be serious!”
“This is our only option," Eva uncrossed her arms, made an explaining motion and crossed them again. “Consider this recompense for draining our funds.”
Me mouth was wide open on the floor. I had no idea what to say.
“You can’t do this to me!” I exclaimed, “what the hell is Simon Crowell even going to do with me? I can’t even sing!”
“Vocal training, you’ll get over it,” she said sensibly. She then pushed a button. “Send them in!” She said into the intercoms.
“This is unbelievable!” I yelled as I flipped the chair, “you’re unbelievable! You can’t make me!”
“Yes I can,” he sighed, rubbing her temple, “you should know this by now.”
This is true, I thought. But surely I could make a run for it. Just then, there was a knock at the office door. Three guys wait no five guys (???) marched through the door. Hold on, how many people are there in one direction… Harry, Zain… Louis… Liam… and then there’s another one. I don’t remember his name but I think he’s blonde. Ok so there are five.
Five guys marched through the door.
“Gentlemen,” Eva politely nodded, “this is Dr. Ryland Grace. He will be your new member. Treat him with caution, he is delicate.”
“Hello, Ryland,” said the one with brown, curly hair. He kind of looked like Timothy challemet but British.
“Oh, hello. You must be Harry” I roared, trying to throw a book as a distraction.
“Yes, I must be,” he nodded.
“Our tour bus is waiting outside the hallway,” said one of the blonde ones.
I stared stunned as I grabbed and threw more books from off the shelves as distractions. This was so unbelievably and unreal. Me, Ryland Grace, sold to the British pop sensations, One Direction. I ran but I knew, deep down, there was no getting out of this. From now on, this was my reality.
