“What do I wanna lose tonight? I should be asking you that.” Like they hadn’t been just shy of neck-and-neck all night. “Are you sure you don’t wanna quit while you’re ahead? Because when I win you’ll be paying for the good booze.” His next shot ricocheted off of the side of the table at the edge of the pocket and sent one of her object balls alarmingly close to the pocket on the opposite side before it slowed to a stop. Whoops. He grimaced as he straightened back up and reached for his beer.
“Shit, really?” Instinct and reflex had him wanting to apologize for possible hurt talking about her and her dad’s relationship might have caused. But she could have skirted around the question if she hadn’t wanted to answer, he reasoned, and she was continuing on before he could give it any more thought. Jack didn’t even try to suppress the loud laugh that bubbled out of him at the question. “Can you even reach?”
He waited until the last of his laughter subsided before taking another sip from his drink. “If you wanna waste your potential miracle victory trying to get your fist from all the way down there to my mug, I won’t stop you.”
“the tab? that’s your bet? and here i thought i would have to agree on doing your chores for a month. and i thought you knew me better than that, jack. i don’t quit” she says as-a-matter-of-factly, eyes glued on the table, tilting her head at his action. “you better be ready to buy an entire bottle of macallan if i win tonight. i haven’t had that in a while” the smirk on her lips only grows bigger as she grabs a hold of the cue chalk and prepares the cue stick.
eyes fixed on the table and her next target, the blonde shrugs. “hmm, but we are not going to start talking about shitty parents, are we? i need more alcohol than what i’ve got on my system to even begin” a chuckle then escapes her lips before hitting the cue ball, this time hitting the ball that was meant to hit, making it roll right onto the pocket. her eyes search the next target before looking up at him, rolling her eyes playfully “my brother is taller than you and he is sixteen and easily manipulated, shut up” she warns with a playful smirk before leaning in and doing her next shot, instead of rocketing her ball to the socket of choice, the hit makes the ball hit one of his, moving it closer to it’s goal.
“are you sure you wanna try me? i will climb you if i have to if you keep provoking me while drinking. i’m not kidding” adelaide stands aside, taking a sip of her drink while giving her companion a challenging look.
