a note to all cosplayers

You’re wonderful. Your costume is something you put work and resources into putting together. it’s yours whether you bought it or made it. Whether it’s your 2nd or your 20th. whether you’re the same body type as the character or not.

so many people think that only stereotypically androgynous people can cosplay well, or that people who are good at makeup are better cosplayers, or that some people are just better than others at cosplay. While it’s nice to have someone you look up to in the cosplay community, don’t shit on yourself in the process.

As long as you are kind to others and are having fun, then you’re an outstanding cosplayer. any skin color, any gender, any whatever. I’m proud of your work. I think you look stellar. Now go own that con you’re planning for. I love you.

On a positive note! I love following young cosplayers on Instagram and Tumblr to encourage them because I remember being 14 and being on cosplay cringe blogs and wanting to burn all my cosplays because I never thought I’d be good enough, and I’m still not a pro so idk how much of a difference I can make But I know that just leaving nice comments on their cosplays can mean the world and help them continue with a creative art that they love to do Cosplay is about fun, not the elitism of perfection and tearing down children because they haven’t mastered a skill in their early teens

-Don’t DIY your costumes

-Don’t cosplay every single week

-Just have one cosplay

-Don’t use a wig

-Cosplay alternative designs/AU designs

-Don’t go to cons/meetups

-Cosplay alone

-Take a break from cosplay

-Aren’t confident with your cosplay yet

-Don’t use makeup

This has been a psa and I will happily fight anyone who shames cosplayers for any of the above or acts as if “cosplayer“ is some kind of a trademarked label

Cosplay is for fun

Cosplay is a hobby for most people. And cosplay is always about having fun and enjoying and sharing what you love with others.

It should never be based on Height, Weight, Race, Disability, Class, or anything else that is out of our control. Cosplay should never demean who you are, but rather be an expression of you and meld it with what you love and are interested in. Its a form of self expression and individuality, as no two cosplays will ever be identical.

Dont let anyone anyone tell you that you arent good enough for cosplay or you’re doing it wrong.

If YOU are having fun, thats all that matters!
