Rory Gilmore has been the heart and idol of studyblr-, but if you ask me Paris is the blueprint. Yes, Paris can be very intense and follow unhealthy habits. But here is what she taught me.
START STUDYING EARLY- Paris studied before panic could arrive. Studying early doesn't mean studying all day, it means giving yourself time that a bad day won't ruin your progress.
Start an early prep for your classes by having a read of what will be taught.
NO COMPITITION NO PROGRESS- Compete with the yesterday's version of yourself and not everyone's highlighted stories. Your biggest competitor should be yourself and your potential. Don't let others bring you down. Fight to bring out the best of you.
KNOW YOUR WEAKNESS- Knowing what is holding you back from achieving a good score is important. This doesn't just imply to a particular subject but rather all the tiny details. It can be- not a perfect grip of basics in physics, or theoretical work not being your strength etc.
Find them, try different approaches to get better at them.
MAKE SCARIFICES BUT NOT AT THE COST OF YOUR SANITY- Occasional all nighters? sure! But living every day on coffee and four hours of sleep?? Honey, please take a break.
LEARN BEYOND EXAMS- Paris lived off curiosity. Sure, cramming works but it is the curiosity which gets you through your Vivas.
RESPECT YOUR DEADLINES BEFORE THEY RESPECT YOU- Try to finish your work before the given deadline so that you can review it before final submission.
ASK QUESTIONS- Looking smart is temporary- learning is permanent. This is something that I personally always struggle with, but when you have to learn you have to ask. And asking does wonders.
DONT LET PERFECTIOSONSM SLOW YOU DOWN- Done would always beat perfect. Perfect is good, but time is not in our team.
RESPECT YOUR OWN GOALS- If they are important enough to dream about, they are important enough to schedule as well.
YOU DONT HAVE TO BE THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE ROOM, JUST THE MOST PREPARED.
I don't want to study like Paris. I want to borrow her discipline, her preparation, her willingness to work for what she wanted.
Rory made studying beautiful, romanticising it. But Paris made the reality of how it works. And somewhere between the two is where we learn the best.
One lesson that Paris quite didn't learn was that others victory doesn't mean our failure. Learn to celebrate others. Let the success inspire you rather than threaten you.
