Did I ever talk abt the time i was at a bdsm club and one of the pups was on all fours and barking and being cute and the dom on scene was like āhi puppy! Do you do any tricks?ā And he said āI can beatbox!ā
I was like. Doubled over incapacitated laughing the entire time. He was really good and a big sweetheart and I felt kinda bad but I couldnāt stop thinking āwhy the am I getting the beatboxing puppy unskippable cutscene at the bdsm clubā
"shipping and blorbofication are not inherently at odds with understanding a story's deep themes" and "some people can't grasp the themes of a story because they never learned how to engage with stories outside of the lens of shipping and blorbofication" are two statements that can coexist
blorbofication to me is when you love a character in such a laser focus way that you somewhat detach them from the narrative from which they are inserted and treat them in a way roughly similar to how you'd treat an oc for which you still have no story and just like to put them in situations just for fun. which there's nothing wrong with btw, it's just that it can easily lead to people forgetting the character engine in a narrative and not just a barbie doll
as an example of blorbofication taken to the extreme without the acknowledgement of the story context to ground it please refer to the thomas jefferson miku binder
rant below the cut (yapping about my thoughts lmao)
couldnāt stop thinking about Gozaboruās signature suit being the color red. Soemthing about the visual of his suit dripping blood from those he had helped kill, allowing him to own this very suit in the first place.
Seto meanwhile used to wear white, something that is not only often associated with innocence but also nothingness, a blank slate of sorts. White fabric stains easily and this would easily adopt the red dripping from gozaboruās suit (as well as being hard to wash out and most likely staying forever, even if only faintly).
The jacket itself is too big to fit little Seto, not only because itās a position unbefitting for a child to be put into, but also because their ideals fundamentally do not align. Still, the jacket is being held in place on the left side of the image by another hand, only staying on Setoās body to due an outside force. Naturally, as seen on the right, it slips off his shoulders. Also noteworthy is that Seto stands perfectly still, passive in this action and having the jacket forced upon him against his will.
Additionally, Seto is presented in a greenish hue (haha s0 reference), not only to contrast Gozaboruās red, but also because it makes him appear sickly and distant. His facial expression is supposed to match that of his appearances in the actual series, despite him still being younger in this. He may still be a child, but mentally has already transformed a lot through Gozaboru- faster than he actually grows up physically.
Lastly, I also thought of this at Seto kind of looking at himself through a mirror or something (thus the front facing view and look forward), seeing how heās being transformed to fit the role of a kaiba heir yet powerless to do something against it (at least the whole mental part yk since thatās a big part of his character later on, esp w battle city semi finale against yugi where he struggles to break free from what gozaboru has taught him).
