veilguard wanted to use lucanis’ role as “magekiller” to necessitate that he be the one to kill ghilan’nain, but then it basically made spite’s wings the only reason he could get up there to kill big monster, which... has nothing to do with his role as magekiller and we couldn’t even possibly have known about before hiring him. also he can use a dagger like every other rogue i guess. it actually kind of makes taash and davrin better fits as they are dragon/monster hunters, and are way more accustomed to killing something very large that has a lot of unpredictable moving parts to watch out for, which is what catches lucanis out

my proposed solutions are that a) we use his magekiller kit (sensing the presence of blood magic and weaknesses in the veil!) as one of his area exploration abilities instead of just spite spite spite, so the player remembers that’s his job, also some very anti-mage specific combat abilities would have been nice but i understand that’s not really the gameplay system, and b) we emphasise that lucanis is trained in fighting big weird unpredictable freak of a monster because he regularly kills mages who have zero problem turning into an abomination and levelling a street if they’re cornered. that is even what he does in the wigmaker job (although he intentionally baited that guy into doing it because there’s something wrong with him). literally just have him talk about this and how they have lots of limbs and tentacles all the time. and hey, suddenly we are referencing basic thedas lore about the dangers mages face, and even addressing imo a problem from earlier games where abominations always seemed like weak enemies it didn’t take any degree of expertise to kill, which doesn’t really match the lore

that or have the gods actually use magic in interesting ways that he has to help you defeat, whether in combat or outside of it, helping you get past their wards and such as he would for mage targets... anyway possibly least pressing issue in veilguard but just something i think about. of course giving him more believable expertise makes it worse when he doesn’t get the job done the first time but that’s theoretically the narrative isn’t it, that he is the specifically suited best but the circumstances were crazy and it shakes his confidence

Bellara Lutare quilt - for sale, $246 USD

Bellara Lutare is a character from Dragon Age. She's a scholar, part of the group called Veil Jumpers, and written as having ADHD. Her brother calls her hummingbird in their language. The Veil Jumpers have a lot of triangles in their attire, as does Bellara. Her colors are turquoise blue, beige, brown, black, white, and gold.

Finding the black fabric was nithing short of a miracle. Metallic gold triangles was an unexpected find. The entire thing is made using foundation paper piecing, with lots of tiny pieces for the hummingbirds. I ran out of the background fabric after two blocks, and switched to one that's nearly identical. It's why the hummingbirds look a little different. The second fabric has a lot of print on it, making it stiffer. The border also has metallic gold flecks in it, really bringing the entire thing together. I used triangles for the quilting as well, and lots of them to help make the quilt especially flat.

It measures 17x17 inches, 100% cotton. A fantastic size for a wall hanging or table decoration. I have Command hooks and drapery clips holding it up. In my gallery here, I have a tutorial for an alternate hanging method using Command hooks and safety pins. There's no hanging sleeve on the back.

Emmrich and Manfred dining set - for sale, $288 USD

Another celebration for Dragon Age The Veilguard. This pair represents Emmerich and Manfred. Emmerich is a necromancer, and his assistant is a skeleton named Manfred. I haven't been able to play as of listing this, but from what I've seen in the trailers, Manfred wears goggles that appear made from green gems. Emmerich colors are green, dark wine red, gold, and off-white. I think there's blue on his list, but I opted for these instead.

The skull piece is 11.5x12.75 inches, and I used insulated batting for it. This gives you the option of having it serve as a really big mug rug, hot pad, or pot holder. Plus, as big as it is, it could be a placemat, hence the coaster.

The coaster is 5.25x5.25 inches, and the same design used for the eyes. Lay it over one of the eyes, and it sort of blends in.

All the fabric is cotton, and the gold bits are metallic and shiny.

The bone-colored fabric isn't solid. It's a batik with a subtle swirl, and that particular shade has a slight green tint to it. You may need to zoom in to see it.

In DAO we come across Andraste's ashes, and they heal those who consume a pinch of them.

In DATV, we figure out Andraste was likely blighted and communicated with the evanuris. This was part of a lengthy discussion among friends on a discord server, and the theory we came to. I explain why in the replies.

After seeing Solas's memories, the VG team came to the possible conclusion that the Andrastian faith were begun by Andraste seeing the golden city, in a vision, hallucination, or dream.

My explanation of the theory in the replies of this post:

"That's the comclusion of a long disussion i had with several friends, after the topic of andraste came up. She had been contacted by the "gods" in some form, touched by them. She experienced hallucinations regarding the maker, a symptom that was displayed in previous games. She spoke of music, which is a symptom of blight, and various other symptoms mentioned by wardens. The blight had not escaped yet or had in small quantity. We came to the conclusion that she was touched by blight, likely manipulated by the evanuris, and was, for lack of a better description, insane. There hadn't been blight events, like DAO, yet, as far as we could tell."

It's only a theory, not proven canon or discussed further in-game. It wpuld certainly make for an interesting bit of canon. Needless to say, it make for good fanfiction, and I fully intend to write it.

In conclusion, does that mean the ashes of other blighted people carry healing properties as well?

I've had this really annoying theory for a while that does not really add up perfectly, but historians in Thedas were like "of course Ameridan was an Andrastian human man!" so who knows.

Andraste sang a beautiful song and the Maker noticed her. I'm thinking Andraste was a mage (elven?) who could connect to the Fade and the "Maker" aka the guy who made the world as it currently is, aka Egg notices her from the Fade. Maybe she was like Lavellan potentially and Solas was like omg she's not a moron :O *proceeds to fall in love with her*, OR the very obvious one, Mythal's spirit goes into Andraste (the two of them have basically the same headpiece) and that's how she ends up as the "Maker's bride" and Shartan the guy who helps Andraste/Mythal to free the slaves who are mostly elven and also happes to be bald is also Solas.

Then she gets betrayed by her husband bc she's banging the Dread Wolf or smg, gets burned, Mythal's spirit is released to find another home and Solas is obviously pissed. So the Maker once again turned away from the world. But yeah idk what's up with the ashes, I just remembered this theory and wanted to share :D

That is an excellent theory, though it does clash with Solas having slept for thousands of years. After creating the veil, he was depleted of power, and basically fell into a coma.

knowing the truth about solas being a spirit and regretting it, and being responsible for the tranquility of the titans and loss of connection to the Stone makes. me. insane when looking back on his conversations with varric. and just their relationship on the whole.

"why do the dwarves not know? why have they forgotten? did someone make them forget? how can they not care what i did to them?"

"do you miss the stone? do you know what i took from you?"

"look at what i did to you. your people are mutilated, forever forced to change from what they once were. and i did this to you."

"you don't even know what i did to you. the horrific crime i comitted against you and your people. you have no idea what you lost or what i did. you're not even angry at me. why aren't you angry at me?"

"you should be angry at me and trying to restore what i took. how can you continue on the way that you are? how are you even whole?"

and then we have harding's comment in da:tv

this comment from harding, after all of the conversations with varric, in hindsight, really does highlight something about solas. for all his guilt and regret, being practically one of if not THE only person who knows what truly happened to the titans. being one RESPONSIBLE-

at no point does he make attempts to fix that until he is convinced to potentially at the end of da:tv.

his conversations with varric are clearly some self projections, and wondering how varric can't be like HIM- he DOES know what the elves lost and what was done, and so he DOES want the old world to be restored. it's to absolve himself of his own guilt, along with trying to fix his mistake. how can he NOT fight? how can his own people not see what they lost and not try to put it back? he has to undo what he did.

but he never does this for the dwarves.

he often will say how he doesnt relate to the elves, and how when asking him 'who are your people', he avoids the topic. because the elves are NOT his people. he is a spirit! and his priorities always align with one simple thing:

that he regrets being made flesh. if he could go back to being a spirit, if all the elves could, if it could all just go back to the way it was before, everything would be fine!

it takes at least four people at the end of da:tv to make him see that this is ultimately selfish and unrealistic. that no amount of regret or attempts to put things back the way they were will undo what he did. in his obsession with self absolution, he completely forgets about the titans, and the blight, all being because of HIM.

he talks to varric, he talks to harding, all the while knowing what he did and being oh so sad about it but never stops to think. wow i actually may have the power to help with this!

he is so, SO focused on his own crusade for himself while also convincing himself that it's for the greater good. telling himself that oh! this time his great plans for the 'right thing' will go well, surely! the last few times, with the titans, and the blight, getting mythal killed, the sealing away the evanuris and changing the world because he messed up the ritual, then trying to awaken his orb only to give it to an immortal blighted magister that explodes the veil- those were all just! flukes! this one will go right FOR SURE!

and is that not just very similar to varric? how varric repeatedly also makes mistakes, and then doesn't face them? he brought hawke into the deep roads and put them in danger, possibly got their sibling blighted, brought back the red lyrium which led to (gestures) all THAT, introduced hawke to anders which led to (gestures) BOOM, led hawke to corypheus, told bianca about the deep roads which led to corypheus getting his hands on red lyrium.

but their key difference? varric simply accepts his mistakes and attempts to do better the next time. varric accepts that the past cannot be changed, no matter how badly he regrets it. he has to move on, he has to do better, he is still here, people are still here, and theyre worth trying for.

"That's the world. Everything you build, it tears down. Everything you've got, it takes. And it's gone forever."

"The only choices you get are to lie down and die or keep going. He kept going. That's as close to beating the world as anyone gets."

like of course. of course solas couldnt keep rook inside a prison of regret by using varric as the catalyst! because that's just not who varric is! that's who solas is. solas saw parts of himself in varric, but didn't listen enough to what varric has always been saying. he never does! he doesn't self reflect, he doesn't consider, truly consider that he's wrong until he is being held at knifepoint and confronted with the literal specters of his past telling him to stop fucking self flagellating and convincing himself that he knows best or that this isn't just out of self pity. 'it's for the elves', he says every morning when he wakes up.

for all solas' wisdom, he truly is poisoned by pride and regret. it's just so. (clenches fist)

he spent all this time using varric's memory, surely he is familiar enough with how varric thinks and feels at this point? surely he undersands now?

you have to stand with him at the edge of the world, teetering on the edge of the abyss and decide if he's worth putting in the effort to make him truly take everything varric said and did to heart. to take what we have now and make it better, instead of dragging a corpse of guilt around for eternity.

EmmLich x Rook - Corpse Bride AU

I am very much aware that I have unhealthy commitment issues when it comes to finishing fics but when the overwhelming urge to throw Emmrich and Sable into another AU… well…

After watching the Corpse Bride movie for the 10,000th time, I am now haunted with the idea of finally writing the unhinged EmmLich fic I’ve always wanted to. This is still little more than bare bones (hah…) and notes at the moment but I figure if I throw it out into the ether then I’ll have to actually commit to writing it.

Rough synopsis I’m running with so far:

She was of little importance. Abandoned as a babe in the gardens of The Necropolis, home to the Mourn Watch, she is given the name Ingellvar and raised without any expectation of achieving greatness.

Under the watchful gaze of her so-called guardians, she lives a quiet life, content to be ignored as she spends her time in the gardens with little more than plants and wisps as company.

Then on the eve of her 30th birthday it is decided that she will be married, the burden that is her shadowed existence removed from the hallowed halls that have been the only home she has ever known.

Betrayed by those who had raised her and in the face of a marriage that threatens her quiet peace, she flees into the depths of the Necropolis - wishing to be forgotten by all as she frees herself from the mockery of a wedding gown, she cries out to the fade-touched shadows that she will not be forced into a sham of a marriage whilst she still lives.

She vows that she would rather wed herself to the long-forgotten bones that call this place home, than play their little games anymore.

His awakening and acceptance of her vow is… unexpected.
