To anyone who needs to hear it: your queerness, transness, heritage, disability, plurality, neurodivergence, immigration status, and any other identity of yours is not a problem, or a burden to others. You are not to blame for the state of this world. Your experiences, your stories, all of the things that make you the person who you are today enrich your communities and make this world a better place. You deserve to have all of your qualities and identities celebrated, honoured, and to be loved of who you are.

So go out into the world and take small steps towards being proud of who you are. Be the most unapologetic person you can be, at your own pace. There are so many people, both within your communities, and beyond it, who you might never have guessed you could've helped with your freedom and your joy.

You seem like a person who has friends. Can you tell me how to be a person who has friends?

I am indeed a person who has friends!!! and I went from almost no friends to almost too many friends, so I might be the right person to ask [:

my BIG TRUTHS OF FRIENDSHIP:

if you listen to your friends and your friends listen to you, that is a friendship worth fostering. asking questions and listening is also a great way to make friends in the first place!

sometimes you are just going after the wrong people, or you're not in the right environment. I've made some of my closest friends at events and clubs!

always awesome to ask your current friends to invite THEIR friends to hangouts. the people your friends like are probably people you will like too! this can also help you form friend groups these are very powerful. like a biodiverse ecosystem or food web!

kindness is the most powerful trait to have when making friends. if you make a conscious effort to be kind to others, you will attract people who value kindness.

keep your wellbeing in mind! if the people you are friends with do not listen to you, say hurtful things about you or others, or make you feel worse when you hang out, they are probably not going to be good for you in the long run. these people do deserve friends, but it doesn't have to be you. don't hurt yourself in the name of friendship.

you can give people gifts! it doesn't have to be a special occasion! I often find funny trinkets at op shops that my friends would love. friendship can be reciprocal without being transactional [: sometimes my friends sneakily pay for my treats before I can get my card out and the indignant delight I feel is an emotion second to none. peace and love

treat potential friends like they're already your friend. don't overstep boundaries, but the way people's faces light up when I treat them like a good friend after only knowing them a little while is wonderful. it's like digging the channel for a beautiful flourishing river!

it's just so unwell what people think they can meaningfully have ownership of. land. ideas. a word being written in a specific font. and we're supposed it act like that's a real and meaningful way to structure our lives?

disability and disabled people are as endlessly complex and nuance as any human being is. ableds like to pretend that disability flattens someone into only that which they can understand about said disability, but that itself is a reflection of their own ignorance. people who constantly talk about their disabilities or for whom their disability shapes every aspect of their waking and sleeping moments are still a thousand times more complex and dynamic than you assume
