sometimes i think KCD is kind of perverted for letting us witness some of the most vulnerable moments in these characters’ lives and i especially feel that during istvan and erik’s farewell scene. perverted, sadistic, and depraved!

there's just something so incredibly private about that moment that i always feel like I'm intruding. like we're absolutely not supposed to be seeing that. our sworn enemy from all the way since the beginning, suddenly; humanized. vulnerable. loving. gentle. and his lover is wearing an expression meant only to be seen across a pillow in low candlelight. and i feel dirty

all that time spent watching the villains through henry's blood-red tinted glasses. encouraged into animosity and deprivation for revenge and then istvan touches erik's face and i feel like a dog barking at a stranger through the fence but then the fence gate is slammed open and i tuck my tail between my legs and look away

i think it's kinda insane that warhorse lets you observe henry seeing the deepest moment of intimacy in the game between ištvan and erik. and that at the possibly most impactful and emotional moment for henry, high in that tower where hes supposed to kill the man hes been dreaming of killing for weeks, he can still stop to ask if what he saw was love.

There's just something that makes me insane about Henry and Istvan&Erik being portrayed as foils of each other, the implication of Henry's love for Hans existing independently of your choices showed through Erik taunting him about it, threatening to kill Hans just like Henry kept telling Istvan he would do to Erik after he was finished with him, Istvan haunting his nightmares telling him if he keeps refusing to sacrifice those who don't matter he will lose those who do like Hans, Henry spitting out "you love him" in the most accusatory tone in a conversation where Istvan was repeating him over and over again they are all the same.

The whole back and forth of parallels between them that works better and makes the narrative stronger only accepting Henry's queerness and fondness of Hans...

Getting into kcd from seeing hansry on the internet is like getting introduced to a drug dealer for weed and then some day he just gives you straight ketamine (isterik) and now you cant ever get out because of these mentally ill gay people in your electronic device

so obviously warhorse knocked it out of the park with hansry in kcd2 but tbh i think it's just as notable that we got 2 previously established villains in a deep and loving but also lethally codependent gay relationship that has several layers of power imbalance and trauma and fucked up implications to it, and while they're still antagonists, the narrative takes them seriously and frames their relationship with authenticity and care

only henry is allowed to be a dick about it he gets a pass for being erik's bisexual twisted mirror image

I think we need to acknowledge the gay on gay crimes of hansry vs isterik more because I find the beef and hate they have for eachother to be so genuinely entertaining

It makes me so happy everytime I see something new in the Isterik tag, because I still cannot believe that in games that contain the most well-written, uplifting, poignant AND funny friendship turned romance between two people who learn to love each other despite circumstances and save each other’s lives⏤ litteraly, but also from grief, solitude, alienation ⏤countless times, the story also goes : you know whose love is also incredibly genuine, grounded, passionate and gut-wrenching? This strange middle-aged mercenary war criminal who loves the sound of his own voice, aphorisms and goth fashion and his weirdo bodyguard who’s twenty years younger than him, is clocked as gay by everybody, and carries the sadness of a hundred year old man on his face. They will make you insane and you will love it. I still cannot believe that happened.

Yeah you're right. It WOULD be pretty fucked up if you were a swan but you were raised by ducks and you grew up never seeing another swan or even knowing that such a thing as a swan even existed so you just thought you were a duck with something super wrong with it.
