People are fighting over of Akito deserves forgiveness again what is your sexy take today
I know u were probably expecting a sassy response but I’ve actually been thinking about this a lot recently and I’ve kind of come to the conclusion that like... fighting over something like this is not productive!
I think we all need to take into account that so much of the fruits basket fan base is made up of people who have experienced abuse and toxicity in their lives, with a series that is so heavily focused on breaking cycles of abuse I think that’s to be expected 😭 so I’ve always kind of thought that whether or not Akito is to be forgiven is like... completely up to whoever is reading or watching you know? I think that with such a large fandom filled with people from different backgrounds, we should truly try and be kind to one another when having this kind of discussion you know?
And even for people who don’t look into it that deeply like if someone was like ‘couldn’t help but notice she stabbed two people so that’s a no in my book’ that’s fine too lmao
I think it’s really important that Rin has the conversation with tohru about how she doesn’t understand how people can forgive Akito, and that nobody tries to convince her otherwise or make her feel bad about it, because at the end of the day, nobody ‘deserves’ forgiveness from the people they hurt and while furuba drives it home that it’s never too late to make the decision to be better, it simultaneously tells us that there is no obligation to forgive your abusers, and there is no shame in walking away from the the people who hurt you.
It’s part of what makes Akito such an interesting character! It sucks to see people going after one another over this because it really feels like they’re missing a very important piece of the message you know?
Anyways this is longer than I wanted it to be but like, just be kind to one another about this kind of stuff. I think both takes are valid 😔
